Overall, great getaway for a few days and relaxing

My boyfriend and I went for a few days to relax and getaway from all the stress of the world. The resort was more then we expected! It was slow season and some workers had mentioned that week was low with visitors but we loved it.! Not having to wait for rides, private pools to ourselves outside our building and no waits at restaurants. Luckily, we were also blessed with amazing weather. Can’t forget the friendly and helpful staff! Would definitely go back once covid-19 has slowed down. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just Shy of Paradise....Missing the Mark

Upon our arrival we were greeted by friendly faces and a refreshing coconut. It was a hospitable welcome after a long flight. We were swept away into a golf cart and taken to our luxurious accommodations. We booked a villa suite swim up. It had one bedroom with a separate living room and two balconies. We were welcomed in the room to champagne and a fruit platter. The fridge and liquor cabinet were fully stocked.  The room smelled a bit musty, but that is expected in a tropical location. As for the living room, I have to be honest, It wasn't very comfortable. It had a small leather sofa that was like sitting on a rock. The bedroom was a nice size, but the bed left alot to be desired. Very hard. The bathroom was large with a walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub. The lighting though was terrible. I couldn't see a thing when I was trying to get ready each evening. Our deck straight out to the pool was awesome. Nothing like waking up and jumping right in. The main lobby and other pool areas were about a 5 minute walk away or you could wait at a stop and a golf cart would shuttle you there. The shuttle service was pretty good. We never had to wait too long. Food wise, they need some help. I actually lost weight on this trip, if you can believe it. The lobby bar area had amazing snacks and desserts. The only three restaurants we really enjoyed were the The Golden steakhouse, Bhogali, and Sumptuori. The buffets were awful and Helios was decent, if you could get there before the flies showed up. In regards to activities, it seemed like they had alot to offer at  extra cost. The only free activities we participated in was one of the foam parties, which were alot of fun. A beach party and a Michael Jackson impersonator concert, which was hilarious to say the least. I personally think one of the best attractions of this resort is the spa. What a beautiful place. Pure relaxation. The smoothies and snacks were light and refreshing. We would go just to enjoy the spa pool and ate lunch there most days during our stay. One of the major negative points of this resort is the beach/pool areas. It took us one day and we finally got the hang of it. Guests would leave their rooms around 5/6am and leave their belongings like books, shirts, hats...etc on the chairs to save them. Then they would go have breakfast and around 11am/12pm they would leisurely come out to the beach or pool with their chairs ready for them. Anyone who tried to come out and get a beach chair after they were all saved were basically screwed. I think this is just terrible. The resort really should restrict this from happening. People spend alot of money to come here and then have to get up at the crack of dawn just to know they will have a beach chair. Ridiculous. Also another word of warning, there were quite a few Russians who were vacationing there and they were very loud, rude, and disruptive. They had very little consideration for anyone, but themselves. I didn't realize that Punta Cana is a very popular destination for them or how incredibly rude they can be. Not only were we pushed around a bit, but I witnessed other Americans getting bullied out of various locations. Most were very drunk for what I saw, so standing up for yourself was a lost cause. As for the staff, they were all great, helpful, and friendly. The only issue we ever had with them was the restocking of our room and refrigerator. I had to call a few times and let them know we were out of water and snacks. We spent a week here and overall, even with all the negatives, we had a really great time. Would I come here again, probably not. For the money we paid, I'd expect more options for decent food choices and the ability to sleep in and not fight for a beach or pool chairs. Anniversary trip

Booked last minute here while the resort was beautiful due to covid 19 we were not notified basically everything was gonna be closed when we got there. One restaurant open everything else was closed the entire time, few times we ordered food it was messed up because the help couldn’t understand English. I contacted expedia for some kind of credit and was notified that you guys didnt want to do anything in compensation after we spent 2300$ for absolutely nothing at the resort. Was not happy with experience and we travel alot very disappointed TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We went there for the second straight season and stayed there slightly more then a week. Food was very decent and slightly downshifted from the previous year, but always fresh; plentiful restaurants with good service and some restaurants were still on the top - LaBoheme was our favorite one. There was a disappointment with Capricho restaurant as it seemed like loosing it's management's grip. Transportation in the hotel was very good: anywhere you need to go, the driver will stop, pick you up and deliver where you need to be. Friendly and very accommodating staff. Daily and nightly performances were good. My favorite butler-Norris (not sure if I can pronounce her name correctly) was like a mom to us. Responding in 5 minutes when any kind of help was needed; and she was very accommodating, making arrangements with her was a breeze. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Food borne illness

My husband and I have traveled to TRS 4 times and the first 3 times we loved it. The rooms were clean and nice, the staff was very friendly, there were many restaurant and food options, the drinks were top shelf, the beaches were beautiful ..... but we had a very bad experience this last trip. My husband and I both ate a salad for dinner at one of the buffets and both became very ill. My husband recovered after a day but I got worse. I was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and spent 2 days there. My lab work showed that I had an intestinal bacterial infection. I understand that these things can happen but the resort refused to take any responsibility for it. They insinuated that we were just not used to their climate, drank to much, or ate unfamiliar foods. None of that was the case. Our vacation was ruined, we incurred thousands of dollars in hospital bills and I was ill for a week after returning home. We really just wanted TRS to admit that they were at fault but they were totally unwilling to take any responsibility and they treated us as if we were idiots. We were loyal customers that will not travel there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
