Overview

Overlooking the turquoise Caribbean Sea from Canouan's western coast, Tamarind boasts 40 hardwood-floored rooms overlooking the island's white, sandy shoreline. Some guests mention that this hotel is somewhat hard to find, but claim that a stay here is worth the effort. Accommodations range from traditional guest rooms to spacious suites, all of which are adorned with crisp white and blue decor and Brazilian walnut paneling. Recent guests describe the rooms as welcoming, and the hotel staff even more so. The hotel's two restaurants, Palapa and Pirate Cove, also garner high praise, and to help you work up an appetite, Tamarind rents out windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling equipment, free of charge. For a more relaxing afternoon, book a treatment in the "Pure Harmony Escape" massage room.

Thatched roofs are a trademark of this Italian-owned beachfront hotel. Accommodations are in three buildings facing mile-long (1½-km long), reef-protected Grand Bay Beach. Louvered Brazilian walnut doors in each spacious guest room open onto a spacious veranda and a beautiful Caribbean vista.

Fuel up for a snorkeling or kayak excursion with a grill-fired pizza from the hotel’s thatched-roof Pirate Cove restaurant, or grab a club sandwich from the beach bar and head to the private jetty for a boat tour to some of Caribbean’s most secluded dive spots.

Getting here involves some puddle-jumping. International flights connect from the 32-island nation's neighbors—Barbados, Grenada, Martinique, St. Lucia, and Trinidad—to E.T. Joshua Airport, outside the capital of Kingstown, on St. Vincent.
