For predinner drinks with live music

Apr 19th, 2019

We wanted somewhere for a cocktail with live music but with more ambience and style than the countless Ocean Drive dives more geared to the young looking for drunken fun. Walking through the doors of the Betsy, provided this oasis of smooth live Latin music in a stylish sophisticated bar area. Yes the experience is not cheap at $16 for a cocktail which for 2 with gratuity and taxes automatically included meant $42 but great value for an hour of relaxed chill before dinner. We will return We then moved to the Alley Restaurant next door- still part of the Betsy ( reviewed separately) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Paul was the best concierge I have come across

Just a quick two night stay for some sunshine which was wonderful. Pool Brach food and service all excellent and two visits with Betsy and Queen Katie. Our Lady server ( very Helen Mirran) was charming as well for afternoon cocktails. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Kyrie is an amazingly patient and professional bell service man. Says all the right things to make you feel welcome and start of your stay right! He is a superstar and we thank him for his assistance getting our family situated in the hotel today. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice classic restaurant in old world hotel

Apr 17th, 2019

Very comfortable setting on busy Ocean Blvd in South Beach. The hotel feels like something out of the 40s. Nice setting, music and great food and wine. Outside is the always happening SouthBeach scene. Highly recommend TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

4 out of 5 for a reason (read on)

Apr 15th, 2019

The reputation of the best boutique hotel in South Beach awaited our extended family for a four night stay which as expected was going to cost a few dollars. My wife had done her research and this was the place to stay to get the flavour of Miami, the convenience of the beach and the shops and the history of the hotel as the cream on top. I should add this was my wife’s 60th Birthday present so I could hardly so No to her choices. We checked in after a short flight from Houston and were shown up to our room 301) by the Bellman Andrew who was fantastic as we were to use his services extensively! Our door opened to a shoebox and I looked for another door to hopefully find the rest of the room, unfortunately it only led to an even smaller box which squeezed in a shower toilet and basin but the toilet paper had to be on a stand in the middle of the floor as there was no space elsewhere. After explaining to Andrew we could not stay in that claustrophobic space for 4 nights to celebrate my wife’s 60 th we all trudged back down to Reception and after a bit of haggling they agreed to shift us to a larger room at no charge which we were initially thrilled to hear. Andrew carted our bags to a suite (331) which blew us away given the comparison to the shoebox and we delighted in unpacking. We heard a buzzing noise which also was felt as a vibration through the floor and I commented to Andrew who said he would pass it on. He must have as a maintenance man who like a lot of the staff spoke minimal English was seen to be listening his way around our hotel area. Upon questioning himself she said change room only fix and upon climbing up to the pool area I could see why with 4 larger extraction fans billowing out smoke and sitting on loose roof fixing points which was not only causing the noise but also the vibration. We rang Reception again ( I think they were getting sick of us) and I was told there are no other rooms and I should use earplugs! We enjoyed less than 3 hours sleep that night with the combination of the noise and vibration acting as a form of torture which only disappeared at 4:00 am after unsuccessfully trying to ring the Night Manager. We didn’t care where they found us another bed just find a quiet room. Whilst sitting up at 2am I found the Managing Directors email address (via a Trip Advisor) and wrote him the whole story. To my surprise upon waking up, if you can call it that I received a full apology and a promise that this would be resolved. We were moved again by Andrew ( who we were getting to know quite well) to Suite 305 and all was well for the rest of the stay. The Hotel would get 5 stars if I did not have to put up with the torture along with the level of disinterest from the staff. I also don’t think a Hotel of that quality should have rooms with that interference. A fantastic spot with some issues to resolve for a future visit. My thanks to the MD for resolving our issue and a big shout out to Andrew! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
