Family Reunion

Apr 24th, 2020

We visited St. Croix and The Buccaneer Resort just as the COVID-19 pandemic was hitting the U.S. Our multi-generational family reunion was supposed to be the highlight of spring break and was everyone's first trip to St. Croix. The Buccaneer Resort was everything we had hoped for in a family resort--beautiful beaches and pools; rooms with amazing views; diverse activities, including water sports, tennis, golf, and fitness; and plenty of island activities for all to enjoy. Unfortunately, many of the resort's typical offerings were on hold due to social distancing guidelines, but in spite of everyone's uncertainty surrounding the health crisis, the staff went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. We arrived to a surprising room upgrade, providing extra space and the most fabulous ocean view. We received a welcome gift, including snacks and a bottle of wine that we shared with our extended family. And all of the folks we encountered around the resort were extremely accommodating. I especially enjoyed the daily tennis offerings. There is a loyal group of locals who use the facilities who were extremely gracious about playing with resort guests of varying abilities. Kevin, the pro, led great drills daily as well. The food was what you would expect from an island resort, and our family enjoyed the evening entertainment each night. Sadly, our trip was cut short due to worries about travel and the spread of the virus; consequently, we did not get to see the island as we had hoped. We are hoping to return once it is safe to travel again. There are so many things we'd like to explore on the island, and we definitely look forward to the hospitality of the Buccaneer on our return. Best Anniversary Stay Ever

Mar 17th, 2020

My wife and I have had the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of lodging accommodations during our travels. It is therefore with great confidence I can recommend this resort with five stars of approval. The hotel amenities are so numerous it's difficult to fit everything in but somehow you'll manage. The different beaches each provide their own unique vibe and include all the essentials to have a great time. The rooms are spacious and boast amazing views, great fixtures and quintessential West Indian charm. The food spreads are generous and the best meals on island were enjoyed here although the food in town nearby is also delicious and eclectic. But as many other commenters note, what sets the resort apart is its character, personality or distinct charm. Many employees have been with the resort for decades and their passion for providing an excellent guest experience is palpable. The ownership provides an unheard of personal touch while celebrating the islands legacy and culture in a tasteful manner. When a trip can stimulate all your senses but simultaneously relax/renew you know you've visited the right place!...thank you to Elizabeth, Pat, Phyllis and Tyler for making our visit so special. Great place, great stay there!

Mar 13th, 2020

Only good things to say about The Buccaneer. We had never been to st. Croix, only to St Thomas and St John. Booked a hotel that was highly rated; when we got there, it just wasn't what we were expecting. The room was sparsely furnished, some water stains on the walls, etc. (Not going to name it--not the point of this review). So what do we do? Luckily, we had decided at the last minute, after we landed in St Croix, to rent a car and found one available, so we had some mobility. The Buccaneer had been recommended to us, and was another highly rated hotel on the island. We drove over there (around 4 pm on Saturday, Feb 15), told them our story and asked (begged) if they had a room for us. From when we walked in to the airy, open lobby we knew right away this was a nice place. They had room for us, even upgraded us to an oceanfront room. The room was modern, very well maintained, spacious--excellent. The hotel grounds are very well kept, facilities all in good shape, everyone (especially Crystal at the front desk who found a room for us) was friendly and helpful. Great oceanfront or ocean view dining options. the bar off of the main lobby was great--we had a light dinner there the first night, overlooking the Caribbean, and Scott the bartender was a nice guy who took great care of us. The hotel was wonderful--I would say the style of the furnishings in the common areas was 1960s elegant--I dont say this in a bad way, everything was very well maintained and top-notch quality with a lot of attention to detail--had a sort of a Mad Men era look. If we return to St Croix, no question of where we will stay--The Buccaneer! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Couples trip

This place is very clean but very dated. You have a choice of 3 restaurants and the Terrace at dinner was the only great meal we had there. Breakfast at the terrace was pretty much the same every morning. Shuttle drivers on the property were friendly but the cab drivers will rip you off! We met people at the pool who were charged half the price of the same trip we took. Won't be back any time soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
