Not a guest--visitor

Dec 4th, 2019

We came to visit the hotel, potentially eat at the restaurant and spend a day at the beach. The view from up on the hill (where the restaurant, and main area is) is amazing. Almost 360 degrees of great views. I found that when hotel staff assumed we were guests, they were very kind but were rude when we approached them as visitors. They charge $10/chair at the beach for non-guests and have specific areas where you are allowed to sit (and you definitely can't use the pool). There are nicer beaches on the island, with cheaper, less stuck-up approaches to chair rentals/sharing the beach/enjoying the island. I realize they are trying to allow their paying guests to have a perfect time, they simply didn't leave me wanting to come back, as a guest or paying customer. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My husband and I went on our first ever no kids, no meetings, nothing but relax vacation. We couldn't have chosen a better resort than the Buccaneer. We stayed Sat-Sat so we had the opportunity to see all of their daily offerings. It was still the "quiet season" so not everything was available daily... yet we still had the time of our lives! The breakfast buffet each morning, looking out at the ocean and hills, is amazing. The staff is friendly. My favorite mornings were when Melrose was working! What an amazingly happy man. He was sincerely thrilled to see every guest and eagerly welcome them. We had drinks and lunch at the Mermaid grill which was nice. We had the grill night dinner at Beauregard’s on the beach with the fire dancer show, which we loved! Tuesday night the owner hosts a cocktail hour at the sugar mill. There are koko jumbies and steel pan music. She comes around and speaks to every guest individually. Very sweet woman. We had dinner at the Terrace a couple of nights. Patty was a fabulous server, very friendly with a great laugh. I couldn't get enough of the vanilla creme brulee. Mmm We swam at Mermaid beach, as our room was right there. You can use ocean kayaks, snorkels, water floats, noodles, etc for free. The beach attendant was nice. I even saw him go in the water with a snorkel to assist in locating a GoPro that was dropped. We also saw 4 or 5 baby turtles in the water making their way out to sea. That was incredible! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We loved this resort. The room was comfortable. We had a great view of the beach. The breakfast was included in the morning and had lots of options. We rarely needed to eat lunch. The employees were extremely welcoming. Azaliah assisted us with booking excursions. We really enjoyed lounging by the pool and on the beach. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Caribbean Ease

Nov 5th, 2019

The Buccaneer is a top tier hotel on the beautiful island of St. Croix - an island that hasn't been spoiled by tourism. The staff is warm, helpful and ready to make sure whatever you need, it will happen. And not because the policy is that way, it's the island charm of the locals - the old Caribbean feel that everyone matters. I haven't experienced that for a while as the Caribbean becomes more congested with competition rather than quality. The hotel is slowly being updated and the rooms do need a facelift..however, they are clean and spacious and all with a great view of the 360 degree views available. And, quite frankly, I spent only my sleeping hours in the room as there are not one but TWO perfect beaches (cleaned daily) to go swim, snorkel or rest comfortably in plenty of loungers. There are tennis courts, a small gym, LOTS of beach amenities like paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling gear (all included), and a small basketball court beachside. There is a lovely restaurant on the premises that services one beach and the pool, and the other beach's cafe is being renovated and to be finished, I think, by the end of the year or perhaps earlier. The grounds are gorgeous and the golf course looks like an enjoyable one with a few holes by the ocean. The ocean.....although there is a reef around, one beach is completely clear and perfect for swimming. The other does have some rocks and a pathway into the water is well-defined by the hotel. The snorkeling needless to say is great. Breakfast is a good buffet - something for everyone with the most delightful staff serving. The restaurant is open and has stunning views of the ocean. I was feeling ill and the staff went out of their way to help me - gave me some island herbal tea, bitters and ginger ale ( a new now for me as a combination - isn't that a Shirley Temple??- that settled my stomach and got me right back on track. lunch and dinner is also served here and quite good. Fun bar - OK entertainment performs on the occasional night. I'm planning another trip - third time in a row. A lot of guests have been going for many years. The island is NOT a destination for parties, all night dancing, or getting wasted at a bar but one of bonding, relaxing with loved one/ones, adventure (there is island exploring nearby and diving), some good restaurants (ask the locals for their favorites) and folks that will speak to you wherever you are. I felt safe. It's not expensive. The airport rental car service can back up as everyone arrives at the same time. The roads need some TLC. I truly enjoy the pace and the place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great property to stay at. Beautiful views. The staff makes the place though. Everyone was so hospitable. Everyone goes above/beyond what is expected. Milton and Ebony’s optimistic and welcoming attitudes made our breakfast experience more enjoyable. Graham runs the pool area with precision; taking care of every detail. I look forward to our next visit! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
