Great location with some nice touches

We visited this hotel for a golfing weekend and had a wonderful time particularly as the weather was very cooperative. Our first impressions of the hotel were excellent thanks to the very efficient and very friendly bell staff and great service from the front desk. Christmas decorations filled the foyer and the corridors leading off it creating a welcoming and festive feel. Our room was small but comfortable but, for the price, could have been more spacious. We had a package which included breakfast and evening meals, some of which could be taken outside of the hotel. We chose a 'fine dining' option at the hotel and a dinner at The Tavern in the village. The latter was disappointing and, although the menu looked interesting, the food was obviously ready-meals that were just deep fried. Breakfasts at the hotel seemed to be processed convenience foods with cheap ingredients. Omelets could be made to order which was perhaps one saving grace. Our 'fine dining ' experience was in the same restaurant where breakfasts were served. The atmosphere was totally cheerless, with dull lighting and no effort had been made to create any atmosphere with not even a candle or tealight on the table, no Christmas decorations just a totally sterile environment. Considering the the lobby contained about 40 poinsettias it wouldn't have taken much effort to transfer a few to the dining room. The food was acceptable but very rich and heavy and in no way reflective of how contemporary menus can be lighter and delicious with fresh ingredients. We will choose differently next time. Quick Thanksgiving getaway

Room was just ok, not great. Dinner (Thanksgiving day) was not what I would have expected. Food was average and service was sub par. Like the previous reviewer said ... not a 5-star experience. Breakfast was a bit chaotic and food was again just average, nothing special. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Sixth time in visiting the Carolina hotel. Even with the Covid restrictions still enjoyable. Valet was nice and helpful. Front desk efficient with check in. No real complaints about room but it would have been nice to have a fourth pillow. But bed was comfortable, towels soft and shower was nice. Room was a little dark and hard to read due to the dim lighting. Walk-in closet was nice. Shuttle service was good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Average is the best I can do

I don't get the 5 star reviews. It's like we were at completely different places. The rooms have been used very hard and are very worn. They're not dirty by any means just really, really tired. The coffee pot didn't work and it took 2 days to get it replaced. The beds are as soft as the pillows. If you have a bad back, they're not for you. MOST IMPORTANTLY - They take C19 very seriously. Masks, distancing, hand cleaners, everything is being done to keep C19 at bay. The golf is great. The hotel is just so so. Better lodging can be found at Sea Island, Cabot and Bandon. Beginning to look a lot like...

What an incredible hotel. The rooms were very spacious. There were two to a room. The showers were big, beds were comfortable. They were unable festive mood as the Christmas lights had already illuminated the property. If there was a complaint at all, it was that the walls were a little thin. We could certainly here the people in the next room coughing and talking. But otherwise what a great hotel with years and years of history! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
