Very nice hotel, but not Marriott friendly

Jul 17th, 2019

My wife and I stayed here three nights over the July 4th holidays on Marriott points. The hotel itself is located very well, right in the middle of all of the action(maybe to close). Rooms where very nicely appointed and the bed was very comfy. There is a slight since of pretentious from the staff and we felt that was a very intentional atmosphere they were trying to create. They choose not to honor my request for a suite upgrade even though the had suites available. Once again a nice hotel, but probably not for us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic boutique hotel tucked in on a side street just off of Times Square. Amazing rooms with exquisite finishes from the furniture, to the bed, to the wall coverings, to the toilet! UPSCALE in every aspect. Great location. Great service. Great 5 star look and feel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good hotel if you have the money

Jul 8th, 2019

The Chatwal is a good hotel with excellent amenities. The staff are very friendly. Be advised that it is expensive. Also, the pool is quite small. If you are interested in Times Square, this hotel is only a block from there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Chatwal - Chat With The Wall

Jul 7th, 2019

The Chatwal, centrefold NY, is nestled 2 blocks from Times Square and is a short jaunt to the Broadway theatres. This is a high-end hotel prestigiously encased in a landmark building interiorly marked by majestic Art Deco fashion. In former years, The Chatwal was the haunt of the rich and famous and the royalty of the greatest stars on Broadway. It is rich with their shenanigans and tales and uses this notoriety as a drawing card in the hotel's marketing strategy. The Chatwal has endured iterations of remodels, renovations and remastering to get to the fervour of luxury it portrays today. It is a fusion of old-school Art Deco design with a spectrum of modern glam. The facade of The Chatwal is majestic. When viewed from across the street, at night, it looks like a gigantic alter dotted with appropriately sized candles, sanctuary-like....almost saintly. The componentry of the lobby makes use of reds, browns and warm lighting that ensures a welcoming vibe for guests. The Chatwal offers a comprehensive repertoire of suites (suite oriented hotel), some include spacious furnished terraces. The suites are all meticulously curated with built in cabinets veneered with faux leather which morphs them into classic luggage pieces from yesteryear. The walls are fabricated in suede and spacious baths are plastered in stripes of tinted mirror and doused with an abundance of decadent toiletries and when you throw in complimentary butler service you now have the basic standard of all rooms, a very high hoteliery bar indeed. The "Chatwal Crowns", a collection of 10 suites, each having a unique distinctive theme, are the real accommodation stars of this hotel production. I was in a Tinseltown mood, so I booked the Hollywood suite. The suite was ornamented, of course, along Hollywood lines with movie art and cinematographic memorabilia arranged throughout. The bath was an eye-popper, like walking into the "House of Mirrors" at Coney Island, with glistening black marble floors, mirrored walls that encased a shower cubicle bigger than most NYC apartments, and a vanity area complete with a behind the mirror television. I could brush my teeth and watch "Good Morning America" at the same time...more multi-tasking. But beware, the toilet seat comes hot....a bit of luxe over-kill I suspect. I'm not usually a spa person, but after my harrowing trip into the city, I needed something relaxing. I tripped down to the Red Door Spa where I engaged in the signature "Stress Melt Ritual". I felt like I was in suspended animation. After the spa, all topped-up with exhilaration, I moseyed on to the Lambs Club restaurant which featured a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, chrome light fixtures, hand crafted leather seating. Black and white photos of broadway and Hollywood stars grace the walls, like the TCM screening room, with portraits the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields amongst others. They are arranged in such a position and fashion that they seemed to be talking to one another. This bonanza of pictures is so enticing that one is inclined to chat with the wall as if you are part of the imaginary conversation. Since this restaurant is called the Lamb's Club, I ordered Colorado Lamb Chops from the heftier part of the menu (sumptuous) paired with a cocktail called "Surprise Me" (artistically handsome and delicious) and warm Rhubarb Shortcake (a taste of heaven). All hotel staff were attentive, experienced in their craft and were amped up to anticipate and execute your every wish. Keep in mind that the Chatwal is a fully loaded luxury hotel and it is advisable to come with a heavy wallet and a strong credit card(s).....not withstanding...the Chatwal embraces an "all-in" NYC hotel when luxury, location and comprehensive facilities and service are your requirements for tackling NYC..........then try The Chatwal..........Chat With The Wall.
