Will be back again soon!

Overall one of the best destinations we have visited! Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff and activities for all ages. From the toddler and game room, to the nature room and pool activities our kids had a blast! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful but but reduced maid service disappointing

Aug 7th, 2020

We are in an oceanview room in the Ocean Residences. The room is fine but the maid service is only towels and some trash removal. My bath tonight had yesterday’s sand in it and last night’s wineglass was barely rinsed and replaced as though it were clean. At least I hope that’s my lipstick still on the rim... Ditto the coffee cups - still dirty after maid “service”. I expect a much better and cleaner experience especially in the era of the virus. The beach is gorgeous but I don’t know if we would recommend staying here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful hotel, disappointing service and adaptation due to COVID

Aug 6th, 2020

We came here for a getaway before our first baby was due, and were really surprised by the very friendly but completely useless concierge, and by the lack of ability to reserve any outdoor dining at any of the hotel’s onsite restaurants when GA was in the middle of a COVID spike. The staff didn’t seem to understand why outdoor dining would be the only option some would choose during this time. With the concierge, I called to book some activities and reservations ahead of time, and it turns out they mostly can’t help you with anything themselves. Instead of handling anything for you, they direct you to call the fitness center or the Nature center for example, which are basically down the hall from them, not to mention all a part of the resort. When asking for more clarification on a boat tour for example, I was told they could only find the the description that was available online, rather than just asking anyone about it. There were lots of little occasions where we were told the wrong info, sent to the wrong place, or where we booked a class only to show up and find out we weren’t actually booked. Then, there is only one restaurant doing outdoor seating and they don’t guarantee it despite being in the midst of a pandemic. But it is also not really first come first serve. You have to make a reservation, and then show up and see if anything is available at your reservation time. You can’t just show up early and wait for a table to open up, and you can’t reserve it. And if you show up and they can’t seat you outside, they charge you $50pp for cancelling within the 24 hour window. I tried to talk to them about this a handful of times given I am 7 months pregnant (and frankly even if I wasn’t the current recommendations are not to be indoors with others not wearing masks due to Covid, so I personally wouldn’t choose to take this risk right now). We ended up mostly going offsite but trying to make it work with one onsite reservation, where sure enough, despite calling again night of, we couldn’t get seated outside. They assured us they wouldn’t charge us the cancellation fee, and then we found a $100 charge on our bill. Overall we were completely disappointed by the visit and the policies, some of which were due to them adjusting to Covid poorly, and others were just general bad management. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Cloister

Aug 5th, 2020

From the minute we arrived it was like the weight of my chaotic world was lifted off of my shoulders. Right at check in the staff was quick to grab my bags and inform my two little girls that there were cookies and lemonade at the tavoli window. My 8 & 6 year old beamed with excitement and ran over there, me frantically thinking ( come on kids, we are at a 5 star resort, lets not act like the crazy kids we are) Instead the entire staff embraced my overly joyful children and made sure they received not just one cookie but one of each kind. Being a single mom when people step in without me asking or even saying a word, it makes me want to cry. happy tears of course. I believe lots of single parents feel that way and I just want the staff to know that it did not go unnoticed. My parents were married at the Cloister 37 years ago, my grandparents were Sea Island members and my whole family has been around this island for a long long time. My kids and I refer to Sea Island as our " happy place" and this trip was just that. It let the girls and I connect and just focus on being together while the cloister staff took care of everything and anything. Thank you for showing my children and I such kindness and grace. We can not wait to come back soon! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

They have Covid figured out.

Jul 27th, 2020

We just got back from staying 4 nights at the Cloister. We stayed in the main hotel garden wing with view of river. We drove and If you self park no one ever touches your stuff. Buffet breakfast at Tavola was very well organized and service, especially Ayana, was most impressive. I found it easy to get exercise walking on the wide beach and if you get up for sunrise, you avoid the heat . Wide variety of activities still available to choose from each day and find time to enjoy the beach each afternoon. We also enjoyed Sals neighborhood Pizza and Southern Soul BBQ in the town of St Simons. We wish we were there on day the have Rainbow Island supper, as everyone raves about it, but that gives us reason to come back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
