Not a four star hotel but clean...

Jan 6th, 2020

Definitely trying to be modern. But the floors are concrete with a flimsy rug on the floor. Very minimalist with no closet. But loved the heated toilet seat with night light. Definitely older rooms since the heater was really loud. Free breakfast was ok. Best part were the s’mores in the evening. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Honeymoon disaster

Dec 30th, 2019

My husband and I came up to Tahoe to celebrate our civil ceremony and really looked forward to staying at the Coachman Hotel after seeing all of the raving reviews. I'm a light sleeper and pay extra attention to things like comfort, cleanliness, and quiet when booking my hotel stays. In my 15 years of traveling experience, Coachman Hotel is among the worst hotels I've been to. The Good: - Location is close to Heavenly (10 minute walk). So if you're looking for a place that's close to ski/snowboard and the downtown area, Coachman offers a great location - Coffee & Bar: the hotel lobby has a coffee & bar that offers full beverage selections. The quality of the coffee is just OK, although they use the Stumptown coffee branding A LOT to boast its quality. Didn't get to try out the bar but they do have Happy Hour in the afternoon. - S'mores were a nice touch The Bad: - Glorified Motel: immediately upon arriving at Coachman, I thought I had arrived at the wrong location because of its motel set-up. The interior and exterior looked like the owners took over an old Motel 6 and painted it black. Room are lined along the corridor facing the parking lot, which connects all of the guest rooms so there's always a ton of traffic right outside your door. Even with the shades down (the only open window in the whole room facing the corridor), you can hear and see people walking by. Every few minutes, you'd hear heavy footsteps, cars, and every conversation. We stayed there for 3 nights, and every night I was awoken every hour or so by the noise outside even with earplugs in. - Staff: We arrived 30 minutes before our check-in at 4pm, and was told to wait in the lobby for our rooms to be ready. We hadn't had lunch so we didn't have issues grabbing food and waiting. But when we went back to the concierge after 4pm to check-in, the staff inappropriately joked that "these people will kill me if I don't get them their rooms." But it doesn't end there. Because we're celebrating our marriage and I accidentally booked a double queen with 2 beds, I emailed weeks before (with no response) and asked front desk if they have any one bedrooms available. The same staff sarcastically made the comment that he'd just roll the 2nd bed in our room down the stairs. The entire experience felt cold and odd, as if the hotel is run by moody teenagers in dire need of a real adult. - Cleanliness: Just when we thought we'd finally settle into our hotel room to take a hot shower, we found even more issues. The towels had black dirt marks on them, and some had big holes. The room smelled like old cloth rags and very unpleasant. - Living in Darkness: While the rooms looked great in pictures, the black paint made the room incredibly dark, and the dim lights didn't help either. Even with all of the lights on, we still had a hard time finding things and had to use the light on our phones if we wanted to see clearly. While Coachman boasts its s'mores, hot tub, instagrammable decor, that's where the good qualities end. The hot tub's not even that accessible because you have to walk across the parking lot to get to/fro there, and it's freezing outside. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Uggh

Shown a room with cement floors, stained carpet at entryway. Promptly asked for our money back, which was given in fact spontaneously offered by the nice desk clerk. We were given suggestions for other locations, The Landing, which we took and were enormously satisfied with that accommodation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ski Trip/ awesome surroundings

What a fantastic little hotel right in the heart of Southlake Tahoe. It has a very welcoming staff and sweet amenities including breakfast and a bar attached to the front desk. It’s in walking distance of the heavenly village and is a spectacular location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
