Colonnade Hotel - Poor Visit! - Please read!

Jan 26th, 2020

A visit to the Colonnade Hotel, London was a surprise present and a luxury gift for my birthday. An opportunity to spend some time in central London and take in some of the sights. Well I’m afraid to say that the time in London was let down by the hotel stay due to the poor standards of its rooms, the horrendous cleanliness and consistently poor levels of detail that is required when paying a premium price for a premium stay in a well established hotel chain. On arrival, we were welcomed by the hotel reception staff. This was pleasant enough as you would expect but on entry to the hotel room - standard double room No 8 - you could tell how poor this room actually was when you walked through the entrance hall. We spent an hour in the room before having to gain the attention of one of the managers of the hotel. *All 4 ceiling lights flickered at a rapid rate *No towels provided *Poor bed quality. You could physically feel the springs/coils in the mattress! (Horrible) *Dirty wine glasses, both still wet from cleaners cleaning them inside the room. Not replaced from previous occupants *Hair in the bath *No phone in the room so all communication to hotel staff at reception only! *Dressing gowns all wrapped up in plastic so not very ‘green’ or environmentally friendly (given the current climate) *No decaf tea provided *Complimentary bottle of water 1/4 full!!! Addressed this with the hotel Deputy Manager at reception who quickly responded, apologised and moved us to another room (upgraded room). We visited this room whilst in its unclean state with the agreement that it will be clean by the time we come back from our London activities. This was for the Deluxe JFK Suite Room No 15 - highlighted on the Colonnade website. We were very happy to move rooms and once back in the evening and ready to go to bed, we found this room to be lacking in quality and standards expected of a website quote of £215 room night stay! The poor standards continued and in this particular room, we discovered that:- *No complimentary bottles of water provided! *2 Lights in the two lamps had been removed and none available to be replaced! *Cigarette burns and hole in the bed sheets! *Chipped tea/coffee cups *Chipped wine glasses *Tea spoons still had coffee/chocolate dried on granules. Very dirty and clearly not been replaced! *The electric curtains don’t work *4 large damp ring stains on the ceiling and side walls so the interior of the suite is outdated, poor quality and visually unimpressive! *No decaf tea available in the room! Breakfast is included in the price of your hotel stay and on the weekend it’s opening hours ate 7:30-10:30 with an understanding that no breakfast refills are available 5 minutes before the 10:30 finish time. We arrived at 10:20 and although did not expect any food to be replenished, it still leaves a lot to be desired. *The food was cold - even under heated burners *According to kitchen staff, only full fat milk is on offer - No soya, no skimmed, no reduced fat milk on offer or available. *Continued to be reminded that breakfast finishes at 10:30. As soon as we left the dining room, the door was slammed shut behind us and locked! It gave us a clear signal that we was no longer welcomed! On departure, Sunday 26th Jan 2020, we approached the reception to hand back our keys and check out of the hotel. I noticed that one member of staff had his Apple Ear Pods in his ear, surely not for work in a hotel that reportedly is 8.2 on the recommended hotel list. All this was fed back to the highest ranking member of staff at reception to give back our critique of our stay in this hotel. Apart from the duty manager who did what he could under the circumstances to make the stay more comfortable, be polite and listen to our concerns and act accordingly to move our rooms; the stay has been well below the expectations of a Colonnade Hotel. This is bar far a hotel that is a shadow of its former glory days and has many known issues to rectify before arriving back to a hotel that can be recommended in the future. Cleaning issues, interior work, room key card issues and systems that need to be upgraded and no lift access to name just a few including what has been documented in my report. The reviews previous to my post from other hotel guests seem to have similar stays and so I would feel uneasy recommending this hotel to anyone whilst in this state. I’ve asked the hotel duty manager for some communication regarding feedback from our stay when he passes this feedback on to the hotel manager but they are all fully aware of my unhappiness and dissatisfaction about this stay and I’ve been promised an email in response. I’ll up date this if I get one to see how serious this complaint has been taken! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

London holiday

Jan 19th, 2020

At first, I explain 2 stars instead of 1. Reason is, that if I have given 1, it would have seen like I write this angry. Im not angry, Im dissapoint. Lets starts this: We booked this hotel/vacation from Apollomatkat. Flights and hotel. We have a big old room with air conditioner. Of course it didnt work. We complain it and they say it will be fixed. Hotel put as room next door. It was half smaller and they didnt have door cards on that door? So every time they have to come open it when we arrived back to our room...couple of time we stood there like morans waiting the employee come and let us in to OUR OWN ROOM! 🤔 I didnt see any hoten info or nothing. Water from the shower had its own life. One day it was cold only, one day cold and hot, cold and hot... Luckicly London is very cool and neautifull city with lots of things to do. Thats the reason why this holiday didnt suck. To be honest...I wont recommend this hotel to anyone, sorry. Mika TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Avoid at all costs!

Jan 18th, 2020

I can't tell you how absolutely disappointed I am. This was the first hotel my (now) husband and I stayed in 20 years ago. It was an Eton-Townnhouse owned property back then. It was just stunning! Beautiful rooms, complementary bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries in their beautiful bathrooms. Fast-Forward 20 years.. and this has now been sold on and is an utter disgrace to the memory of this once majestic hotel. The hallways are filthy with dirty laundry left in the hallways. Never mind, I thought, hubby had booked the exact same room we stayed in all those years ago, so it was still romantic and salvageable. How wrong can you be?! The same furniture, almost certainly the same mattress. all warn out and dirty. The wardrobe was a dumping ground for a dirty old ironing board with the spare lining dumped on the floor inside We had 1 bath and 1 hand towel to share.. tried to call reception several times - no answer! No milk for the tea, dirty glasses and cups and the bathroom?! My goodness! The tiles had chewing gum stuck to them, they were all cracked and wobbly. The bath was filthy and the shower glass was mouldy. The toilet roll holder was missing The faucet was so furred up with limescale that the water trickled out. Whilst checking out I can only assume the manager, burst out of the office, ranting at the front desk about the fact that they were not answering his call... ermmm, they are dealing with PAYING customers. He was beyond rude, to say the least! This hotel does not deserve even 2 stars, let alone the 4 they have on display. We paid for breakfast, but did not risk it. We couldn't wait to leave. The only positive thing about this hotel are the front desk staff. 2 new starters during our stay - I bet the staff dont last long, sadly. They are trading on their past glory days... avoid at all costs and save your money TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Luckily this was a free experience from my partners work place. Through third party 'acorne experiences for traditional afternoon tea for 2' Otherwise NOWAY would we of paid for this crap experience!  1. The hotel is scruffy and is no way a 4* hotel. 2. The attitude of restaurant staff was laxxed and unwelcoming.  3. I kindly asked if we could replace a couple of salmon sandwiches with any other sandwiches as my partner doesn't like it, Which the waiter said no it's either salmon or salmon. This was weird, as this is never a problem at any other afternoon teas we go to.  4. I had to ask for cream for the scones , apparently they run out.  5. I had to ask for sugar, spoons for our drinks. No napkins were given. BASIC THINGS you would get 6.the whole tea was poor and uncomfortable.  TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do not stay here, you have been warned!

Jan 18th, 2020

I usually try and read through the lines as there’s always the odd bad experience at the best of hotels. Believe me every word written for the Colonnade will be an understatement. We were in a queue of complainers when we arrived at 2pm. Not a good sign. We had three rooms booked, two were not ready but we were shown them. Returning at 9pm we were told there had been a leak in the two rooms so we were taken to a flat round the corner. On a hunch we went and knocked at the two rooms and there were guests in both! We questioned the receptionist and he said that’s what the manager had told him to say. The room we did have was terrible. The smell of drains/sewage disgusting. Light fittings hanging down, dirty, no matters cover, hole in the wall filled with polystyrene? Freezing cold, asked twice for extra blankets -they never came. 4*? What a joke. Website pictures must be 10 years old at least. I’ve never seen so much interaction between strangers at breakfast as each were keen to share their room nightmares. If you read this and still stay it must be because you’ve pre paid and can’t justify walking away. Bonne chance! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
