Extremely low quality

Dec 4th, 2019

Normally I always read Trip Advisor first before booking somewhere but on this occasion I saw this hotel on Groupon and thought how lovely it looked. I couldn't of been more wrong. Three couples arrived more or less the same time as my Daughter and myself who all booked through Groupon. We all left. When we first sat down on the furniture whilst waiting to check in I thought oh dear this looks old and worn out. We were given the keys to the room on the fourth floor, only to be told the lift doesn't work. The stairs are dangerous and the higher up you made it the more you felt like they were going to give way. When walking into the room we were hit by a horrible moldy smell, the room was falling to bits, dirty, broken and just needed gutting and starting again. We all seemed to meet back in the lobby while they tried to offer us different rooms all of which needed the same desperate repair. We asked for the manager who surprise, surprise wasn't there, instead got a man who didn't give a damn. The poor girl on reception said this happens all the time. Thanks for ruining my Daughters 21st Birthday as we then had to travel all the way home again with no refund I couldn't stay in another hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Dec 4th, 2019

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! We got there on Monday at 12pm knowing check in time was at 2pm, so we left our bags with them and went to get breakfast. We came back at 1pm and waited for check in time. There were a lot of guests coming in around 1.30pm to check in aswell but they were also told to wait. They then decided to check us in at 1.50pm to room number 4, which was absolutely disgusting! As soon as you sat on the bed, it sunk all the way down that you might aswell have been sleeping on the floor. The toilet seat was broken and hanging off the toilet! There was hair in the bathtub and the shower looked as though it hasn't been cleaned in months! The water jug in the room was a quarter full and we had no towels. So we went back into reception and asked to be moved. We then got moved to room 8, which was more spacious, but we weren't too fussed about that. Sat on the bed again and it was even worse than the last. You could feel the springs in your back and the room was freezing. The heating was not working either so we decided enough was enough. We then went back to reception to then find two other couples that had checked in with us, also complaining about their rooms and demanding their money back. Which we got told, they cannot do because Groupon have not sent them the money and we need to go through you to complain. Their customer service was disgusting and not helpful what so ever. I felt ever so sorry for the receptionist Rachel as it's not her fault and she tried all she could to help the situation. The manager then came out and battled with one of the couples complaining saying well we cant do anything so basically do one or shutup and put up with it. All the staff were new and just seemed like it didnt bother them that 3 couples were complaining, like it's a normal thing for the hotel. The receptionist then asked if I wanted to see other rooms, to which I agreed because it was 3.00pm by this time and I didnt want to be travelling around London looking for a new hotel. She showed me 3 other rooms, which were all the same as the others. We then got to room 21 which was fine and acceptable. I agreed to this room and followed her down the thousand of stairs, as the lift was also broken to find that the room was actually taken and we couldnt have it. To this point, we were very tired as we had travelled from Birmingham and getting quite annoyed so requested to speak to the manager again. We either wanted a a refund or to speak to the owner directly. They then upgraded us to a suite.. which was more like what we paid for anyway. The bed was still awful but we had to make due by now as we had reservations and it was 4pm by the time we got into the room considering we got there at 12pm. We were told we cant have any pillowcases until later as they didnt have any. We also didnt have any bath or hand towels or tea supplies. We got back at 9pm and the pillows or towels were not there so we had to go back to reception and ask for them which took them an hour to provide to us!! Went down to breakfast and it was absolutely cold. The food was not hot at all and nor was the tea and coffee to which we then found another couple complaining to the staff about their room and the service and the food. We were so upset that this hotel had no remorse or bother about their customers. After breakfast we went back up and were lying in bed then around 11.30am, a woman (cleaner) had walked into our room without knocking!! It was absolutely ridiculous! She then walked out saying sorry but I was fuming! We also found a load of rubbish and dirt on top of the wardrobe in the room. In the evening, we asked for milk and the receptionist had given a glass of milk as they had "ran out" of the sachets Went down for breakfast again and the same thing, it was cold and hardly any breakfast out. Whilst we were eating the cleaners were sat around the corner laughing and joking about how they got accused of stealing from a customers room. It was horrible. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, but terribly run down property

Dec 4th, 2019

Looks can be deceiving... I have stayed her the first time and do not intend to come a second time. I did not mind the small size, but the cleanliness and condition of the room: Dirty and run down (ie feeling the metal feather through the mattress, hairs in the bathroom, toilet seat moving all over the place, handles are broken...). Worst hotel I have ever been to in my life

Dec 3rd, 2019

This hotel was disgusting I am so disappointed. This was booked for my partners birthday and the bath was full of someone else’s hair. There was no towels provided. The air con and tv did not work, we asked for someone to come look at them and provide towels and they never did. The breakfast was cold and the hotel decor is horrendous. I warn everyone off this hotel it is not worth a penny TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Four Star - I think not

Dec 2nd, 2019

I have stayed in this hotel several times in the past few years, but this recent stay was likely to be my last. I had booked directly with the hotel. When I arrived, I was given a room on the 4th floor although lifts only go to 2nd floor and was told 'only a short walk' to the room.. yes up two more flights of stairs with my luggage. Nobody offered to help.... when I got to the room, it appeared as if someone was still staying in it. So I dragged all my bags back downstairs. I was then offered another room on the ground floor as I said I was not happy to be put on 4th floor. The room was tiny, definitely not a 'deluxe' room, but I was tired so agreed to stay there. That was, until I sat on the bed and realised it barely had a mattress, and what was there would be offering zero support. this is not a 4* establishment standard bed. So I went back to reception, explained that due to my rheumatism (which frankly I shouldn't have even felt necessary to mention) that this was not suitable and could they please move me. I was then given a room on the first floor. The bed was better, but again, there was no way that this was a 'deluxe' room. I then made the mistake of electing to eat at what was supposed to be an 'authentic Persian' restaurant downstairs. The menu was limited, and of the two starter dishes I ordered, one was not available so, to give credit where due, they offered me an aubergine based alternative, which was ok. However these were starter dips and I was told there would be 'bread' with them. The photographs and my experience of Persian food expected this to be flat bread, but no...I what I received was toasted, pre-sliced plastic English bread and when I questioned it was told that was all there was. I should also mention that it was somewhat disconcerting that one side of the restaurant appeared to be hosting the owners and/or staff having some sort of business meeting throughout my meal. In the end I put on my headphones to drown them out. So then to my room, which was questionable on cleanliness and very noisy - every time the lift moved, I heard it in my room, but such is life, that I did my best to ignore it. The next morning, I tried to take a shower. There was a shower cubicle as well as a shower over the bath. The shower cubicle's showerhead leaked out of the side. So it thought I'd try the shower over the bath instead. This did not function at all - the temperature adjuster just spun around and it was impossible to get anything more than half through the tap and half through the showered, so I returned to the cubicle and put up with water spouting out of the side. However, the water did not drain from the shower tray - so clearly aside from the specific maintenance, they needed work on clearing the drains. The room had an odd smell as well, so I opened the window and you will see from the photograph what was below my room. My concerns over cleanliness at the hotel, only increased from seeing their absolute lack of care or attention to rubbish disposal. I then went to breakfast. The buffet option was limited, and frankly cheap - .pre-siced cheese the only cheese option? There was one lonely rasher of bacon in the warming plate which was not refreshed during the 40 mins or so that I was there, and I was surprised that they didn't even offer sausages as an alternative hot option. Again the pre-sliced loaves of bread were the only bread option should I wish to have toast. I took all of these issues up with the staff on checkout and was promised that someone would be in contact, but it's been 5 days and I've heard nothing. I had pre-paid for the room, so no doubt they had no interest in refunding any money. Their only concession when I complained about my meal was to strike it from my bill - a total I think of £24. It was so disappointing to see that the hotel has been left to rack and ruin. It was a delightful place, but sadly no more. I should add that I travel for work extensively, so have a LOT of experience in staying in various types of hotels. I have stayed in better B&B's than this and for a lot less money.
