Historic building with character

Jul 7th, 2020

Room design/size; location (Little Venice); history of the building; staff & their efforts to make stay as good as possible, including efficient change of room when issue with WiFi/hot water. Recommend - look forward to returning soonest. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent location and great service

Jun 29th, 2020

I chose this hotel due to location. It was a 5 minite walk from Paddington station. The room I had was classic double. It was very clean and surprisingly spacious for a hotel room in Central London. The staff was very attentive. Would definitely stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Dirty room, uncaring staff, avoid like the plague

May 12th, 2020

We booked 3 nights and turned up on a Friday night to check in at about 7pm. Having climbed 3 flights of narrow stairs with all our suitcases (the lift wasn’t working) we found the room hadn’t been cleaned, there was a floater left in the toilet, and the bed was still unmade. The guy on reception said he had no other rooms (or cleaning staff) available but if we could give him 10 minutes he’d make the room up for us himself. As we were going out to dinner we agreed. Three hours later we returned to find the guy outside smoking a fag. We asked him if he had done the room and he said he hadn’t had time but if we gave him 10 minutes he’d quickly do it. As there was no way he was going to be able to do a room change in 10 minutes we left and found a room at a much nicer hotel close by. Roll forward 2 months and the hotel are still refusing to accept responsibility or pay us our money back. Lesson learned. Don’t book this hotel and certainly don’t pay up front. AVOID AVOID AVOID...... Terrible hotel with rude staff

May 3rd, 2020

My sister and I stayed in this hotel for a birthday celebration. All I can say is do not visit here as you will be wasting your money. The hotel looks lovely from the outside but the inside is a completely different story. We arrived early (12ish) knowing we couldn’t check in until 2pm but decided to go for lunch and a drink in the hotel while we waited. On arrival the receptionist was not very pleasant but said we could check in early as one room was available. The receptionist was talking to his colleague in a foreign language, which I feel is rude when we were being sorted. We went to the allocated room (room 1). Initially we couldn’t get in as the swipe card system didn’t work. We informed the guy on reception who came to the room, huffing and puffing. He realised it didn’t work, opened the door with the key and basically told us it doesn’t work and we can’t have a key but it’s a 24hour reception so they will let us in every time we wanted to go in. We weren’t happy with this but thought it might be fixed by the time we return. We went into this tiny dingy room (nothing like shown on the website). There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom, the shower didn’t work (the on/off turner was on the floor on the shower tray and not on the wall), there was no toilet roll holder and the wallpaper was hanging off the wall. As this room was not suitable as we expected a clean room with a working shower, we spoke to the guy on reception and explained our concern and that we wanted to move rooms. He clicked his fingers at us for us to give him the key back and said when we come back we can have a different room. We decided to go out for lunch and returned at 3pm. On arrival there was a different person on reception who checked us into room 22. We were told to use the lift but this wasn’t working when arrived. The lift looked very old and more like a cargo lift rather than a lift for people. We went to room 22, the lock had been left on so the door didn’t shut so we were able to get in. The room again was small but this time smelt horrendous. We opened the window and tried the swipe card.....Again not working. We went to reception and spoke to the initial guy we first met, who came to the room. He was annoyed we asked him to come as we were in the room and he didn’t think it was an issue that we didn’t have a key or access. We said to the receptionist we want a working key as we will be in and out of the room and didn’t want to keep going to reception to gain access. The receptionist then replied “for god sake” and stormed down the stairs saying speak to my manager if your not happy. We were disgusted at his attitude and professionalism. We went to speak to the manager who was extremely unhelpful stating it was a difference in personalities, but not taking any notice of the fact his staff were very rude. We explained we didn’t want to stay in the hotel and wanted a refund. This was refused and all he said is he would move us rooms. We explained this would be our third move and this is not acceptable and due to his rude staff we were not comfortable to stay. We booked through booking.com therefore called them to discuss a refund so we could book another hotel, they were also extremely unhelpful and basically said it was left with the manager to use his discretion. We were unable to get a refund despite discussing with the manager. Naveed, the manager was the most unhelpful manager I’ve ever met. I can see why his staff act like they do as this is the example he sets. We needed to sort somewhere to stay as we had a reservation booked so asked to see the room they were offering as were unable to book another hotel if we couldn’t have a refund. We were taken to room 33, Jr suite. This room was much more spacious, did not smell and the key card worked. However, the room was extremely run down i.e. Rips in the curtains, missing handles on draws, toilet roll holder coming off the walls, light surroundings broken, cracks in the bath suit, stains on sofas and much more. I can not even begin to explain how awful this hotel is. Please do not waste your money going here as you will be extremely disappointed and it’s impossible to get a refund. I also think it’s comical they charge a £25 deposit for damages when the rooms are so damaged anyway. I have never met a staff member so rude in all my life and staying here as two women we were made to feel very uncomfortable by the way the man on reception spoke to us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

False impression

Mar 28th, 2020

You walk into a beautifully decorated hallway then well. You are cannot say anything good about this hotel. I agree with the previous report. Greeted by a receptionist chewing gum, carpets all rucked up and quite dangerous. Room 21 has eight steep steps up to shower room with light switch at top of steps. As friend said good job didn't bring the cat as deffo no room to swing it. Nothing good to say about this hotel. Needs complete upgrade. Hygiene standards don't exist. Some staff pleasant others no interest and had attitude. All I say is give it a wide berth best thing tube station two minute walk away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
