Beautiful hotel, but a terrible stay

Mar 15th, 2020

When visiting Rochester, we often stay at the Fairfield Inn on Hard road which is operated by the Del Monte. Staff and visits there have been great and if problems arise, they are dealt with quickly. Because of that staff, we decided to take a rewards stay at the Del Monte Inn right on the canal in downtown Pittsford. The hotel is in a great location on the Erie Canal and inside is a beautiful hotel. There are lobby renovations going on that will add to the hotel character. When we returned from dinner, our room was cold and I could not get the thermostat to work and the heat would not go on. I went to the desk and they didnt think the engineering staff were there but they would work on that. In the end we received a portable heater. It took a while but the room did warm up. In the early morning my wife took a shower and started to use the hair dryer when the lights went out in the bathroom as did the portable heater. It was obvious the Breaker had blown. I called on the phone and 2 people came up but werent sure where the breakers were. IT took some time but they did eventually find them and restore power. I explained to the desk on checkout I was not pleased and the gentleman (looked like a manager) said he would have to look into it and see what he could do. I left with the impression nothing would happen and a week later I have heard nothing and no consideration, points or otherwise has shown up. He should have been able to make a decision at the time for this stay. Having been a lifetime gold member, I am disappointed. We won't come back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great food and viee

Feb 12th, 2020

Dinner at Erie Grill in Del Monte Renaissance Hotel was usual positive experience. Windows overlook Erie Canal, frozen over this visit, but fun to view the activity when warmer weather. Food was first rate. Huge beet salad and rack of lamb cooked perfectly medium rare. Unusually good special cheese cake desert. Eat here each time I am in Rochester, NY area, which is at least 4 times a year. Recommend you arrive after 6 PM as their decision on “off menu” items are not announced until then. I ate at 5:30 PM so missed out on a special, a huge pork chop that I have enjoyed before, but looked forward to eating again but was “too early for the specials.” TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

wonderful weekend stay-cation and spa experience

Jan 28th, 2020

We are from approximately an hour and a half away from Pittsford, NY. We sometimes drive up to go shopping and visit relatives that have relocated to Pittsford. We love the town and have decided that the Del Monte is one of our favorite places to stay when we want to make it a weekend trip. We have utilized the spa- very nice massage and facial. Too bad they don't have a pool though! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Heat not working in room during weekend snow storm

Jan 23rd, 2020

We spoke to no less that three people about the heat in our room not working during our long weekend stay. At one point the temperature dipped into the low 60s and we resorted to bringing in extra blankets from the car to keep our toddler warm. It was a snowy and especially cold weekend. Despite assurances from staff, the heating issue was never fixed and we were not moved to another room. The last person I spoke with at the front desk told me she would, “take note of it.” I suggest you all do the same and stay somewhere else - this is not the category 4 Marriott hotel it purports to be. Lovely hotel, but worst bed ever......

Dec 27th, 2019

I like the Del Monte alot - one of the nicer hotels in the Rochester area - we've stayed here a few times. Stayed there last weekend and it's the first time we've been back since they renovated their rooms......went with a more modern vibe - which was fine..., but I wish they had invested some $$ into new beds. Room 110 - possibly the worst mattress I've slept on in years. I travel between 50-80 nights a year for work and I'm positive that beds at the lower end of the Marriott Brand, like Fairfield Inns, Townhouse Suites etc., have beds that are more comfortable than this mattress - it was horrible. We should have complained after the first night - that was our fault we didn't - but it was so bad on the 2nd night, that midway through the evening, my wife got up and went to sleep on the 'chaise type chair' they have in the room - her back was killing her so much. I'm not sure if all their beds are like that - but room I'd highly recommend NOT staying in room 110!! Shame, because in the past we've had really great experiences at the hotel - Eerie Grill serves great breakfasts and the Spa is the best in town..........maybe that's what they were trying to do - sleep on crappy mattress - you'll buy a massage at the Spa !!!! Hope they fix their bedding soon!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
