Overview

Excellent location in Dupont Circle
Wi-Fi and parking fees are pricey
Our nation's capital is a smorgasbord of different nationalities, and there's no better way to get a taste than at The Fairfax. This hotel sits on Massachusetts Avenue near lively Dupont Circle and is surrounded on all sides by beautiful embassy buildings, which represent Kenya, Luxembourg, Paraguay and more. Recent guests love this hotel's elegant decor, complete with marble floors and antique-style furnishings, not to mention the contemporary amenities found in each guest room (including 42-inch flat-screen TVs, 300-thread-count Fili D'oro sheets and high-end bath products). If you prefer to dine on-site, head to The Capitol Room, which has served prime cuts of steak to the likes of John and Jacqueline Kennedy, Frank Sinatra and Joe DiMaggio. Now part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the hotel allows guests who are part of the brand's iPrefer loyalty program to earn and use points here.

The historic, 259-room Fairfax has an ideal location — near great dining and nightlife, but still quiet and close to the sights. Guest rooms, though small, are comfortable, the service is superb, and the features are solid. All around, a fine pick for the price.

The concierge seeks to pamper by getting hard-to-find tickets, or having luggage packed and unpacked; and the staff is gracious and mannerly. The old photos of Washington embassies and other landmarks that line the corridors pay tribute to the hotel's prestigious address.
