Beautiful but needs updates

Oct 6th, 2020

A beautiful property and neat concept. Stayed at the Ferrington House Inn at the Grand Suite. It's a a spacious room, away from everything , but the room had a musty smell. The fire place and walk in closet were nice but the room overall needs updates. The room needs to repainted/touch ups. I was expecting more our of the hotel/room/property given its high rating and listing on Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts. Visited the restaurants--they too have a musty smell. Breakfast was delicious, fresh orange juice, delicious smoothie, but the menu was the same throughout our three day stay. Dinner was delicious but not out of this world. I agree with other ratings that the facility id mediocre. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Magical bucolic bliss at Fearrington

Sep 14th, 2020

We were lucky to enjoy a fantastic stay at the inn over a lovely September weekend. The gardens are magical! The overall setting is bucolic and a walker’s dream especially if you love the occasional furry friend ranging from the famous belted cows and goats to the prettiest chickens and curious donkeys. Dinner at the restaurant was special and sublime. We opted for the three courses versus four and loved every bit of it - particularly the creative amuse bouche treats and the ubiquitous chocolate soufflé. Wine list is excellent and the Frank Chardonnay was dreamy. Breakfast al fresco the next morning was equally delicious and memorable. Our room was #4 which we found to be immaculate and comfy with a great bed and the best shower ever. Lovely toiletries also. We’d give Fearrington 10 stars if that was an option!! Great place for a wedding

Mar 16th, 2020

The property and service were superlative. We visited for a wedding that was held on the property and were very pleased with the comfort and convenience. The gardens and upkeep are lovely and everyone enjoyed their stay. Food was very good and we had not one criticism of this property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice but not quite there

Mar 1st, 2020

Ideally we would rate it 3.5. It’s nice and comfortable and the grounds are pretty. But the facilities are dated and service is mediocre. Not what you would expect at a Relais & Chateaux property. It’s not a true luxury property but it is clean and nice and pet friendly. The best part is the soufflé at the restaurant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wonderful, but...

Feb 6th, 2020

Stayed here two nights to celebrate our anniversary. The setting is wonderfully relaxing and interesting, and the inn and restaurant are beautiful, in keeping with what one would expect of a Relais & Chateaux property. It must be gorgeous in spring and summer! We were given an upgrade upon arrival to a suite in the newer section of the inn, which was a nice touch for our anniversary. In our room, we found a congratulatory note from management with a $15 gift card to use at the restaurants or shops. However, the first part of the note said "happy birthday," and the second part of the note said "happy anniversary." In our room, we also found a mouse! It scampered back and forth through the bedroom a few times, then disappeared into the gap where the closet pocket door slides. We were not frightened or upset, and we did not see it again. The next morning, we informed the front desk. They apologized and said they would alert housekeeping. We expected to perhaps be contacted by upper management later in the day, as it is highly unusual to see a rodent in your room in a hotel of this caliber. But we did not hear from them. Upon departure, we completed the comment card in the room, making mention of the mouse. Again, we thought we might get an email or call from the hotel in the days after we arrived home, but nothing. On other notes, breakfasts were delightful and delicious. One morning, though, our waitress forgot to give us a menu, so we sat waiting for about 20 minutes before the two wait staff realized neither of them had taken our order. We were not in a hurry, so this was not a big deal. But it was another example of lack of attention to detail. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely. Service was excellent. Each dish was amazingly artful in presentation, but some of the dishes lacked in flavor. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the place to others. But the inn and restaurant were not as stellar as we expected. It's all in the details at this level. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
