Staycation

Dec 28th, 2020

Had an amazing staycation here to just stay in and relax. Derrick gave us a nice suit facing the forks! We Loved the old school atmosphere of this hotel. The room was clean, everything felt fresh. Derrick also helped us book last minute massages up at the spa, which was the cherry on top of our stay. We felt relaxed the entire time, can't wait to be back again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Be aware! Someone is stealing your stuff from your room!

Nov 2nd, 2020

We stayed in this hotel in July/August long weekend 2020. My daughter she bought mukluks which were pretty expensive in the market. She brought them to the room ( we stayed in this hotel three nights July 29 - Aug 2 ). When it was time to pack and check out, she realized they are missing! We look everywhere, but they were gone. We reported it right away at the reception, but really we got a cold shoulder from receptionist (Derrick). He said no one stole anything in this hotel yet. Unfortunately our stuff was stolen and we did not get any compensation for that nor any investigation was made really. We showed them the proof of purchase as well. Just be careful with your belongings when you check in this hotel. The lobby is nice; but the rooms walls are very thin. My kids could not sleep for our entire stay since they were interrupted with the guests in the next room. They even reported it at the reception. The hotel is not cheap to start with, so you would expect decent stay. But no, you don’t get good sleep because your noisy “neighbors”, plus you got your personal belongings stolen. Just take precaution if you book this hotel, or book different hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Customer Service, luxury room

Sep 26th, 2020

I booked into the Fort Garry and Derrick from guest services found me the most beautiful room. Elegant luxury - just what I was after for a celebratory anniversary stay. The hotel itself is quite beautiful and historic, faded grandeur is the feel in the main areas but the rooms have been updated and beds, bedding and showers particularly good. Toiletries by L'Occitaine are really nice too - in bulk so less environmental waste. Look for rooms that have a view. All the staff were amazingly helpful and the hotel has a welcoming and friendly feel. Again, shout out and thank you to Derrick TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A disappointing rip off!

Sep 15th, 2020

Very disappointed in this iconic hotel! I have been wanting to stay here for a long time, I feel completely ripped off! The lobby is pretty and the lounge unique but the rest of the hotel is worn out with rooms rundown and falling apart. $182 for one night in a room where the trim was rotting in the bathroom, the floor was coming apart, the bathroom fixtures were rusting, there was dust bunnies, a ripped chair and ugly lopsided lamps. The rain shower head was ridiculous and created a flood in the bathroom because there was no shower door or curtain, just a half piece of glass. Absolutely no mention of anything environmentally conscious in the hotel. Beer cans in the stairwell, used wine glasses in the hallway... The pictures on their website are obviously edited or taken 20 years ago. None of this can be blamed on covid! Worse than a roadside motel, won't be back, won't recommend! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Unfortunately underwhelmed

Sep 9th, 2020

Was excited for our stay at the historic fort Garry hotel. The lobby is absolutely beautiful and then we got to the 4th floor where our room was. It was like 2 different hotels, dark and dreary and outdated carpets. When we entered the room, it was so small it almost made me feel claustrophobic. No view outside the 1 small window, just looking at the next brick building. Granted the room was very clean, but the mat by the bed- fraying. There were holes in the sheets and the robe provided! No microwave, no fridge, no teas/coffees. We attempted to request a fridge but there were no more. Only 2 overpriced bottles of water. I feel duped, I couldve had a nicer stay at a cheaper hotel. I wish some of the glamour in the lobby translated to the rooms. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
