unnecessary security deposit , coupled with poorly labelled 'for a fee' food left in rooms hints of scamming

Mar 30th, 2020

The rooms seemed pleasant enough, but the $150 security deposit was unecessary, perhaps the owners thought guests might abscond with the small enough to fit into a coat pocket, LED TV, ( tiniest TV, in fact, I have seen in 8 airbnb's or hotels i visited in January) The worst part was a poorly identified ( as available for purchase ) food basket left in the room, perhaps by an owner inspired by visiting sleazy hotels in other countries. The overpriced food package should not be in the rooms ( food was left free of charge in all airbnb's I visited) as this invites abuse from owners wanting to 'treat themselves' to your securty depost. Will not visit this pretenscious 'boutique' again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Feb 1st, 2020

we booked this hotel as the finale to a month long tour around the maritime s as the best for last idea... not!!!! no parking.. we were boxed in twice. they put us in a 3 story small room that you had to crouch to get in to bed.. the place was hot, then cold. very loud room... we had to bale from this place and stay at a holiday inn... very over rated place... please read the fine print on this property... bed was as old as the hotel. Great location, "historic" property

Jan 22nd, 2020

The location is fantastic: right downtown Halifax. That is the big feature. Also, parking out back is free. I wouldn't want to hang around in that parking lot at all, or go out there alone at night but otherwise, free parking at a downtown Halifax hotel is great. Its usually $25+. The building is... older. They say "Historic". That said, its clean, bathrooms are well maintained, and spacious. My biggest beef was: our first room wasn't done up, our actual room was facing the road the the snowplow went by a few times which ruined my sleep. That's why I take off a point. Also, stairs, stairs, stairs. My fiancee carried in the luggage and managed all the stairs. At that, you need two keys to get through the outside door, then the room door. And the stairs leading to the back, you hit you head, even if you aren't tall. So if you aren't able to do stairs, don't stay here. They had breakfast but we noticed it was picked over by the time we arrived. So we had juice and went on to Starbucks. I cannot comment much on the food options at breakfast. The price was very fair, again, especially for downtown Halifax. It wasn't my favourite hotel but in a pinch, I would stay there again. Its great for staying in downtown Halifax for sure. Otherwise, I'd probably do a chain over at Dartmouth Crossing and just drive into the city as needed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Beautiful Historic Luxury Boutique Hotel!

Dec 1st, 2019

A taste of luxury in an exquisite historic boutique hotel dating back to 1809! Ideally located in the historic part of downtown Halifax, step out the front door and you’re just a couple of minutes walk to Halifax Harbour and its popular scenic waterfront boardwalk. This beautifully refurbished hotel, includes many original furnishings, and all the amenities one would expect in a property of this caliber and much more. A lovely complimentary continental breakfast is served in the main dining room, along with free parking, wifi and more. For those of you traveling by train with VIA Rail Canada like we were, you are just a short 5 minute walk to the train station. This hotel is perfect for both business and pleasure travelers looking for a touch of luxury, history and convenience. We can't wait to return one day soon! A Few Things to Consider

Nov 10th, 2019

We enjoyed our stay here very much. We came all the way from Ohio to Halifax for our honeymoon. For the most part, we enjoyed the hotel. It was in a good location, so we were able to walk to a lot of places. It’s right down the street from the waterfront, which is awesome. The staff was also very accommodating. There are a few things to consider, however. The first being that there are no elevators and lots of stairs. It was fine for us, but just keep that in mind if you can’t do stairs. There was also no way to control temperature from your room besides a fan or space heater. I noticed that my nose bled a little bit over the course of our stay from the dry heat. So that’s something to keep in mind. Free parking is also limited. We were there in November so we were never unable to get a parking spot outback, but the spots were really tight because other buildings are so close. Despite those little complaints, we really enjoyed our stay. Like I said, it’s just something to keep in mind. The hotel was very cute. The rooms and bathrooms were a little small, but we were on our honeymoon and 24 hours away from home, so we didn’t mind. We spent more time outdoors exploring. Would definitely recommend The Halliburton if you’re like us and not fussy travelers. But if you’re looking for something more roomy or no stairs, I’d look elsewhere. Our room was always clean and the bed made after we came back everyday. I also like the security at the hotel. You receive two keys when you check in. One is for your room and the other is for all the outside doors because they stay locked most of the time. I really like that considering all the foot traffic in Halifax. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
