Great place to stay with children.

Jul 17th, 2019

This historic venue is a friendly country retreat with so much to offer. Our suit had a beautiful view and plenty of space for us all. The children did many activities as there are a fantastic array of things to do here. All the staff went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. We stayed at the Greenbrier for four nights before arriving at the Homestead I wish we had spent all our vacation at the Homestead. We can’t wait to travel back later on the year for another visit. Thanks to everyone at Homestead. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Homestead vacation

Jul 17th, 2019

Can’t say enough good things about The Homestead. My family was celebrating a birthday, and from the moment we arrived, special attention was given to the birthday girl. Every aspect of our stay was outstanding. We look forward to another stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Neglected hotel but still worth a visit!

Jul 16th, 2019

Spent the weekend at the Homestead. I love old, historic hotels so this place made me happy. Husband golfed both courses while I spent the day wandering around the Homestead. No complaints about our room...clean and comfortable. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The outdoor pool and lazy river were fun. The hotel itself is neglected and worn. Sad! The carpet throughout was stained and filthy. Torn, stained upholstery in the common areas, etc. We found a billiard room behind the Lobby Bar but the few pool cues that were there were missing tips or warped, etc. Could have been a fun room to hang out. Breakfast both days at Martha's Market which was friendly, quick, easy and didn't break the bank. Lunch at the Subway across the street. Beers at the cool brewery across the street (Bacova Beer Company) and dinner both nights at Woody's. Would we go back? YES. All employees we met were friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. The resort fee is absurd and the place is falling apart so you need to lower your expectations. Lower them a lot. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Set Your Expectations...

Jul 12th, 2019

My husband and I are torn about how we feel about this hotel. We were there for 3 nights, at the end of the July 4th weekend, for an adult getaway. We arrived on the 6th and the resort was PACKED - somewhat expected, but not relaxing in any way. Our check in was smooth and the front desk staff was wonderful - no complaints there. We can appreciate that the property is historical, and didn't expect it to be "modern", but Omni really needs to start renovations - the condition of the common spaces, furniture, carpets, elevators, rooms, etc really detracts from what this hotel could potentially be. The grounds are beautiful though, and walking around the property is pleasant. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. There are two different ways to approach a stay here: Families with kids will love the main pool and wide open lawns for children to play - plenty to do. Most restaurants were kid friendly. There were a TON of kids during our stay... That brings me to your other option if it is an adults only trip for you - use the Serenity Garden pool, located at the spa - very quiet and relaxing. It is well worth the $130/couple daily rate - you get to use all the spa has to offer (booking treatments is extra of course) and guaranteed loungers. Of course there is golf,or hiking, or tennis too! I would have to think twice about coming here with our 16 year old - she isn't old enough to use the Serenity Garden pool, and we wouldn't want to fight for a lounger and deal with splashing kids...so, we would only consider a non-holiday, or weekday stay with her. As far as food on site - we weren't necessarily impressed. Save yourself $30/pp on breakfast buffet - very standard, basic fare. You can pick up quick breakfast items (and better coffee) at Martha's Market. There just wasn't enough variety for dinner, and a dinner jacket for my husband??? No. We always dress "resort/country club casual", but I'm not packing heels, dinner jacket, etc. for a relaxing getaway. Rubino's restaurant is at the Cascades golf course, so you have to drive or take the resort shuttle. And, quite honestly, food was just average. You can always take a quick walk into town for dinner (quickest way is to exit property on the spa side). Oh, the "tea" or "social hour" was a disappointment. People actually stood in line to get a free scone and a glass of tea...No variety, no nothing - a folding table set up in the front hall for staff to dole out your free pastry. All in all we had a nice stay, but it wasn't a "wow" stay. If the property was renovated and addressed the food options it would enhance the experience. We are currently considering the Omni in Bedford, PA to compare. If you're on the fence, try the Homestead, just set your expectations and know it has the potential to be a pricey trip. The glory days are gone

Jul 12th, 2019

The Omni has ruined the Homestead. Disrepair is evident everywhere and the level of service has taken a nosedive. It is heartbreaking. We have been coming for more than 10 years and the decline has been getting worse. Waited more than an hour to be served a drink at dinner and it took about 50 minutes to even place an order. Then, the order was wrong. This would never have happened in the past. Have also heard that several organizations have pulled their events from here due to the poor service and moved to the Greenbrier. So sad to see such a gem falling apart. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
