Poor Overall Stay...

Nov 21st, 2019

Stayed here last we as I could not get into my normal Hotel -Intercontinental Shanghai Pudong. Language skill was very poor, limited English, rooms were spacious, showers were moldy. Breakfast options were very limited and poor service. Hard to get some one to get you a cup of coffee. Breakfast was included in my rate, but I was asked 3-4 times to pay for breakfast. I was only one person. Will never return here again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent Hotel

Nov 11th, 2019

Traveled on a family vacation of 5. This was the last leg of a long trip and everyone was tired. The hotel was the ideal place to refresh. Very convenient location close to the subway, with plenty of restaurants nearby. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. When we had a piece of luggage break, all went out of their way to see that it is fixed on time for our flight. The breakfast was one of the best on our China trip. The gym is open 24/7 - a great bonus. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overall good, but some pervasive issues

Nov 6th, 2019

I stayed there for a week end October/early November, for business: The good: - The rooms are spacious - The hotel is well-located if you have things to do in Pudong - Close to Century Link mall and Subway, plenty of shops/food nearby - Service is generally good and efficient The not-great - When I got to my room, after a long flight, I took a shower - unfortunately, I immediately saw that it was full of mold (you really couldn't miss it - on the grout lines, on the walls). - I went to the check-in to explain the situation, which took a bit of time as the Chinese-speaking staff didn't quite understand. - The guest relations manager, Oleg, took over and immediately offered to change the room and promised to speak to housekeeping as he said 'it's clearly not acceptable' (I agree). - The room he 'upgraded' me to was the same as the previous one, albeit on a higher floor (still appreciated) - Unfortunately, while there was less mold in that shower, there was still some - I assume the whole hotel has that problem as they probably don't clean with chlorine once in a while. In the end, I stayed in that room as I was mostly away from the hotel anyway, but I think people should be aware - especially if you have asthma or allergies like I do. @Marriott needs to get its act together and look at cleaning procedures - using some form of chlorine or bleach cleaner will sort this out if applied regularly, although by now I suspect they'd need to replace the seals around the glass where the mold has settled as the cleaner won't get in there. If it wasn't for this issue, I'd given the hotel at 4.5/5 - good price/value. Pictures attached. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Hotel

Sep 23rd, 2019

Fantastic hotel. It was very nice to have English service available to me. Because this is a Marriott hotel, the standards are high and my expectations were met. 很棒的酒店。 有英语服务真是太好了。 因为这是一家万豪酒店,所以标准很高,符合我的期望。 TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice property, lousy service for a luxury hotel

Sep 11th, 2019

Titanium Elite Marriott member here. I do not recommend this property, especially to business travelers who are unfamiliar with the area. The pros: Rooms are clean and well kept. Bed is very comfortable. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Cons: Service. I checked in at 11pm after a very long journey and was told the type of room I reserved (king bed) was not available. After some long negotiation they finally sent me to a room, nearly an hour later, which had....a king bed (??). I was mostly disappointed with the concierge and front desk. On one occasion, I asked for a nearby restaurant that had either vegetarian options or at least an English menu, and the concierge had no answers or suggestions, or willingness to look one up for me. (For a hotel that accommodates many western businessmen, the concierge should have some suggestions.) I asked the concierge on another occasion where I can find an ATM, and was not given a clear answer. On my last day, my glasses broke, and I asked the front desk if they could help me find a store that could possibly repair them, anywhere in Shanghai, and was told they didn't know of any. Again, no courtesy to help me find one online as someone who does not speak Chinese. I asked for a store where I could at least buy tape to fix my glasses (as this was an emergency; I cannot see without my glasses) and they again had no suggestions. No effort to go above and beyond whatsoever. Terrible. Finally, my room charge was charged on both of my credit cards (I reserved the room on one card, then asked when I checked in for the charge to be made on a different card--this has never been a problem at the hundreds of SPG properties where I've stayed across the world). I was told this would be no problem; now I have charges on both statements, and my emails to the hotel have been unanswered. I do not understand this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
