Luxury hotel in Alaska

The Alyeska Resort is a beautiful hotel in the Anchorage-area skiing mountains. The resort is very well done with many luxury touches (towel warmer in the bathroom, gorgeous pool, spa and gym, gas fire pits around the resort, great hiking trails, etc.) You definitely feel like they're on par with a Fairmont hotel. What a gorgeous view

If you like skiing, hiking or just plane relaxing this is the place to be. Don’t miss an opportunity to see the northern lights. WOW!!!!!! Best hotel in Girdwood without a doubt! While in Girdwood visit the bakery. Daily soups, fresh baked breads (yummy), best sweet rolls ever and freshly made sandwiches. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nothing to get excited about, terrible service, rundown rooms, tiny bathroom

This hotel could be great, but it's not. We arrived around 10pm on Friday night because we decided to have dinner prior to arrival. The parking lot was full, so we pulled into the drive and spoke with a shuttle driver who told us how to get to the overflow lot. We asked if he would pick us up to which he replied "You can just walk on back." (He was doing nothing, no other guests around.) We asked how far it was because we had our bags and we recieved a smerk and eyeroll and were told it was not far. In reality it was not that far, but it is not a well lit path, was 25 degrees, pitch black out and it was far enought that you would not want to carry bags on a gravel path. So he finally conceeded to follow us to the overflow lot and commented "I just assumed you had already checked in and didn't have bags." ALL of this could have been avoided if when we pulled up he had actually greeted us with a welcome and asked if we were checking in. Terrible service continued as we got back to the lobby and he unloaded one bag off the shuttle and left me to drag the other three in to the front desk. Meanwhile, my friend had to go back out to the car and she was left to walk alone in the dark and cold. Again, not another single guest in site and this guy was standing around talking to other employees. Front desk check in was barely a notch above our bell experience. No welcome, no greeting, just mechanical. I know it must be difficult to find good staff in off season, but hotels of this caliber should at least be looking for friendly people who don't seem so annoyed to be working there! I am sure our experience once to the room was jaded by our annoyance after the arrival. But it left a bad taste in our mouths. The room is absolutely nothing to get excited about. We reserved too late and they were out of the top floor rooms, but we booked the largest room with two queen beds that they had available. The bathroom is tiny, the decor and furnishings dated. Pillows hard as rock. Overall a lousy nights sleep and just left us feeling like we made the completely wrong choice for our girl's weekend getaway. Not going to make that mistake again. The Alyeska was a home away from home while traveling in Alaska over the course of a number of fairly challenging months during Covid. The hotel is spotless and incredibly well-run, all the more remarkable, during a global pandemic. It goes without saying that the salt water pool and spacious hot tub are incredibly lovely, but guests are treated so incredibly well. I was there for work and having a hard time connecting my color printer in my room and the folks at the front desk asked if I would like to have an in-house IT person take a look. They suggested it was a security risk to hop on wirelessly and procured a cable for me, which I thought was amazing. I was super pressured for time during work and didn't have time to set it up using the cable and the front desk offered the print my multi-page document for me, in color, almost daily, which may seem like a small thing but in almost ever other hotel I've ever traveled to, would have taken me forever for one reason or another. The folks at the front desk were always super attentive and helpful, and would go WAY OUT OF THEIR WAY to help. I honestly couldn't believe guest services were so great - thank you so much for making my stay so great. Really appreciate it. Loved Sakura, the sushi place, as well. THANK YOU. We live in Anchorage and booked a room here just to get away and use the pool, hot tub, and gym. I called ahead of time to make sure the facilities were open due to COVID and they are but an appointment is required. When we arrived at the time of check in I tried to book the gym/pool and they didn’t have a single time slot available for our entire stay. I asked them if I could get a pool voucher and come at different time during the week and they said no. They had an available time slot for the next day at 4pm but wanted to charge us $30 for a late check out at 2pm so we could stay and be able to go, but that was silly because we would still have a 2 hour gap. Last night we went to dinner at Sakura and they had an overpriced limited COVID menu and the sushi was cold... as if they pre made the rolls and put them in the fridge and pulled them as needed. The rice was dry and hard. Long story short, we paid $230 for our room and wasn’t able to use any amenities, and dinner was $125 and our sushi was bad. So we stayed in the room and rented a $20 movie. Save your money and stay home. This was one of our worst hotel experiences EVER. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
