Classy and elegant hotel

Jul 20th, 2019

Stayed here for a business trip so unfortunately I didn’t get to appreciate the full beauty of this hotel. There is a lot to explore on the grounds, heard they have a top notch exercise facility including a basketball court. I’m not a gym person so I personally didn’t check it out but my co-workers did. As soon as you walk into the large lobby, you are greeted and immediately you get the vibe of a very classy hotel. Rooms are very spacious and although the furniture is older, it fits the theme of the hotel which is one of elegance and class. Bed was super comfy and room was very clean and well kept. Valet is rather slow but very friendly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful hotel, an oasis at the end of a Texas road trip

Jul 19th, 2019

Spent our final 2 nights here for some downtime after a busy sightseeing fortnight. The hotel, although busy, was an oasis away from the hustle and bustle. A stately American hotel which had a ‘hunting lodge’ feel to it. All oak, game and chandeliers. Rooms 442 and 444 ( we travelled with friends) were uber comfortable and we took the upgrade for continental breakfast, supper and complimentary drinks. Multiple swimming pools were a blessed release from the Texas heat and the food served in the main restaurant was expensive but sublime. The best oysters ever! Staff were friendly and helpful. Only downside for which I knocked off the 5th star was that the air con in all public areas kept the place freezing and far too cold for me. I had to keep going outside to warm up. I took a wrap into the restaurant and my friend had to borrow one. The restaurant was obviously used to this as they had them on hand! Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it. Ps. George W Bush’s home in on the property (used when he was head of CIA and now a lunchtime restaurant) and he lived in the hotel for a while when he was Vice President. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Experience

Jul 8th, 2019

My daughter and I do a yearly trip together and decided on Houston this year. I have had The Houstonian as a place of interest for a while now. I'm happy to say it was everything I had hoped for in a vacation spot. First off, the staff is genuine. I've stayed at places in the past where it's pretty obvious the staff is slapping on that smile when they see you, but they were frowning just a few seconds earlier. Not here. I caught them many times enjoying their time at work and with their colleagues. That's the first sign that the management and owners are doing something right. You want to know how a business is doing? Look at how their staff is feeling. I come from the hospitality business, so this is the first thing I look at in both hotels and restaurants. The hotel as a whole is sparkling clean, and the food is awesome. I highly suggest the morning room service. It feels good to wake up to delicious food with good ingredients served on a fancy table in my room. Yes please! I thought maybe since this place was a little on the fancy side, the other guests would be a tad cheeky for our taste. Instead the guests were respectful and kind. Lastly, the facilities are amazing with pools, tennis courts, workout gyms and beautiful grounds for a morning jog. The Houstonian has it's own little utopia going on. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved it; can’t wait to go back

Jun 29th, 2019

My husband and I had a quick 1 day trip to Houston and stayed here. It was lovely. The highlights were the pools, the workout room, and the breakfast at the restaurant. I already miss it and want to go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Step into a luxury Texas hunting lodge

Jun 21st, 2019

My family has lived in Houston for over 20 years and I had only been to the Houstonian once for an event. I didn't even realize that they also operated as a full-service hotel! My husband booked a Valentine's package for us while we were visiting my family, and it was above and beyond our expectations. We used their car service to go over to the Galleria because my husband decided he wanted something different to wear for dinner. We had parked our car with the valet but I know better than to try to park at the Galleria! The driver was chatty and pleasant and gave us his number for getting back, in case we didn't want to wait for the next scheduled pickup. Our package included a dozen roses in the room, and it was an enormous, gorgeous arrangement. Easily a $200+ long-stem affair! The package also included a special S'mores dessert for 2 in the restaurant, which was unique. We both enjoyed it very much and the food was excellent. We weren't able to try many of the facilities, since we were there in February. I would absolutely go back, though, now that I've discovered what a jewel it is in the middle of the city!
