Amazing potential. Staff needs training.

Pros: The rooms are beautifully decorated, the grounds are impeccable, the amenities are great *if* (and I can’t stress this enough) you know about them. Cons: The staff just does not have it together there & because of Covid, they removed all collateral from the rooms. Upon check-in, it was literally just that. Name, reservation, here’s your key, there’s the elevator. Bye. There was no, “Thanks for being a loyal <insert status> guest,” no mention of a possibility of being upgraded, no hotel briefing, no request for questions, no offer for a bell hop, nothing. Here’s where they can improve. Upon check-in they could give guests some basic info, *which they actually have on flyers at the front desk,* they just don’t give them to you. I spent about an hour online after check-in reading reviews on TripAdvisor trying to figure out what is going on at this hotel. That is where I learned about the laundry on the 2nd floor, coffee at the café before 11am, cookies on fri/sat (which were directly behind the guy at check-in but he didn’t even offer one), s’mores kits every night for the bonfire, ice maker and gym on the 1st floor, the free bike and e-bike rentals, etc. Also I generally found it odd that this class of hotel didn’t have basic things in the room including bottles of water, slippers, or robes. Even the low end Marriott partners have one or all of those for bonvoy status holders. Latest checkout I could get was noon, FYI. Not the normal afternoon option you typically can request with bonvoy status. Which brings me to the customer service for the bikes. When we went to check out a bike there was no staff to be found. The bartender by the pool flagged down the staff that manage the bikes to help us out. Mind you there were zero people in the pool. We signed out the bikes and then when we returned to drop them off, again, no staff. I literally went and got the clipboard out of office where I signed them out, brought it to the bartender out by the pool, and checked my bikes back in. Also if you stay at this hotel, you should be aware that they are minimizing contact in the rooms (covid). What that actually means is that they’re not making up the rooms, they are not proactively swapping out towels, etc. it’s a bit of a pain in the neck when you want to get simple things, like fresh coffee cups/more shampoo/etc. You have to hunt down staff to make it happen. Just left today after a few terrific nights. As always, just the drive up to the resort is impressive. Renovated room and Ann’s Sagamore to a more contemporary look is a welcomed upgrade from the old yellows from previous stays. Staff friendly and professional and respectful of COVID guidelines. Enjoyed ribeye and sea bass at Vintage w good pours around. Water levels within Great Lakes are high so beach area is only rocks. Sunset and bay views are outstanding. Looking forward towards our next visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
A great hotel experience

We were headed to play golf in northern MI and didn't elect to stay here but we definitely will next time! We came in for breakfast prior to playing Bay Harbor Golf Club - excellent even during Covid time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I was a little worried about the reviews of those complaining about poor service ie "To Customer Service, I am not one who writes complaints about situations. I felt a need to definitely do so now. "and "I don’t like to give negative reviews and rarely do." just a few from the same person Its hard to believe someone unhappy paying just $1000 a night here lol but we got out moneys worth I suggest you read other reviews from the whiners if you have doubts any way The Staff here is excellent I am a lifetime Platinum Marriott and Hilton Diamond and recognize great service !! the staff here is Excellent !! well done !!! not one person we encountered didn't impress and exceed expectations of high end property From young man who brought our luggage up ahead of us to the Super Nice Front Desk Lady who upgraded us and remembered my name as I walked by two days later as well as all the Front desk staff who were always warm welcoming helpful and efficient . All the restaurant staff were excellent as well and to be honest as a business man I keep thinking they had more people serving the customers than customers at breakfast That kind of service is expensive... Breakfast and Dinner were excellent my only suggestion would be to put a tablecloths on the tables in Vintage A good steak and bottle of Caymus deserves the White Tablecloth treatment The gym was great and the coffee in the Cafe was great touch for an early riser like me I hate getting nickeled and dimed This is a lovely property but what makes it very special is the people who are there to serve you Everyone respected our safety and their own as mask compliance made was very good Thank you for a great stay from two COVIDIOTS on our first Pandemic Getaway TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Mini-mooning in the age of COVID
Sep 13th, 2020
We spent nearly a week here after our first two Honeymoon locations fell through due to the pandemic and city quarantine requirements. The Inn At Bay Harbor is in a beautiful location and was very clean, welcoming; and we felt quite safe during our stay. Everyone we saw in the hotel-guests and employees- were masked. The kitchenette in the room and included breakfast certainly were nice additions. We also learned that there’s free coffee in the Cafe until 11am for hotel guests... wish we would’ve known sooner! We golfed two days and both courses were in pristine shape and the Bay Harbor Links/Quarry courses had some of the most beautiful views I’ve seen on or off a course anywhere in the world. The wineries and breweries in the area (and in Traverse City) had great outdoor tasting areas and patios and many had gorgeous views which always adds to the ambiance. The only downside of our trip had to do with the weather which we understand, as Midwesterners, can be hit or miss during this time of the year. It rained 3 of the 5 days of our trip (thankfully not the golf days!) and aside from a night or two, was a bit chilly at night. During COVID we only want to eat and drink outside which was admittedly difficult in Petoskey and even at the hotel restaurant a couple nights due to the weather. We were curious as to why the only restaurant in the hotel didn’t have heaters or overhangs to allow for outdoor dining especially in this new “normal” of decreased capacity inside and people wanting and willing to eat outside despite lower temps. That being said, we were grateful to hear about this beautiful hotel and area and to give it a try for our Mini-moon. We still were able to enjoy our stay during a pandemic which is more than we could’ve hoped for just a couple months ago. We definitely hope to be back when we can enjoy the area fully. Thank you for a very nice Mini-moon, Inn at Bay Harbor! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
