Recently stayed at this property in Nov 2020 and Jan 2021 on our way to and from Florida to north east ! They do everything it takes to follow Covid safe guidelines, the hotel has so much history and grandeur. The entire property is spotless . The amenities in bathroom are sealed in plastic bags for each guest. The staff was excellent especially the gentleman who brought us our baggage If you are in Richmond this hotel is a must TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
"outstanding service and the highest standards in our industry"...NOT!!
Dec 3rd, 2020
Our 7 year old granddaughter's afternoon tea was scheduled for 3:30 pm yesterday, December 2nd. The hotel was decorated as nicely as in past years and we were expecting a delightful time. After we were seated (both maternal and paternal grandparents, parents and brother to the maiden of honor), we all waited at least 5 minutes for an explanation of the finger food that was prepared. No water was offered for the empty glasses on the table and it had to be requested at least twice before two containers were brought to the table well beyond 20 minutes into the event. Tea was brought about 10 minutes into the event and coffee was requested...this would come only after brewing a full pot that took another 10 minutes to complete. At the time the coffee was poured, no cream was offered and we had to wait AGAIN for that to be brought. Each time a wait staffer served the liquids, she disappeared and had to be flagged down by one of us in order to be served more. A total of three separate staffers were needed to serve us when WE wanted more. This aggravation for the adults was, blessedly, unnoticed by our granddaughter but was NOT missed by her parents and grandparents. When my wife called the hotel today to criticize the event's lack of "outstanding service" touted by the website, she was told that it was all due to the (wait for it...) THE CORONAVIRUS!! That, my good readers, is a blatant LIE to disguise the lackadaisical and incompetent service the hotel seems to ascribe to. We saw NO evidence of servers rushing around to attend to the tables that were there and could not service ours. I was a catastrophic disappointment and one that we will NOT forget! COVID-19 response significantly reduces the appeal
Nov 16th, 2020
We booked for our anniversary, won't do so again. The Jefferson still demands their 2x premium over the competition, but without delivering the special extras that make it worthwhile. COVID is certainly to blame, but there is nothing special about staying there anymore. Valet parking is not available. Turndown service is cancelled. The mini-bars are empty, and while a note handed to you at check-in promises that you can check the TV for the mini-bar menu and have it delivered at no additional charge, the menu is incomplete and disappointing compared to previous offerings. Keep an eye on room service. They claim to be 24 hours, but breakfast starts at 7, which is miserable for an early riser. You'll pay an "in room dining fee," plus 20% described as "gratuity" on the menu and "service charge" on the receipt, but then the total after service charge will be presented as "subtotal" and a blank line will be presented as "gratuity," which you've clearly already paid. So basically they're taking your inflated meal price, adding $4 and then 20% for service charge/gratuity and then soliciting you to tip again after that. Classy. And before the excuse is, "the receipt just prints that way," they could have hand-written "included" on the gratuity line for the sake of honesty. And actually, I'll pay $70 for a simple breakfast. But not when the bacon is cheap and overcooked. It just all seems very dishonest. Getting to the meat of the room review, we stayed in a grand premier king. There is a ton of marble tile work in the bathroom, including a very large but simple shower and crowned with a massive mirror with an embedded TV. The linens were all high quality, lush bath sheets and nice robes, but there were a couple of small holes in our sheets, which were the first things I saw when I pulled the covers back and a bit of a detractor from the experience. The bed slept uncomfortably warm. We left the thermostat where we found it, at 69, but the comforter was quite heavy and the only other option was to just use the top sheet. Would have been nice to have an in-between option. The in-room Nespresso machine was really nice to have and two bottles of water were provided. I would probably leave the turn down chocolates on the bedsides rather than let people call to get them delivered. I didn't want to run them around during a pandemic, but they would have been nice to have. All of the staff members we encountered were very nice and masks were always on. Check-in desks have plexiglass dividers and cups for clean and used pens. Hand sanitizer was provided everywhere. We did feel like they did a good job of responding to the virus, but all in all, it could have been a stay at any hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Superb classic hotel

We recently had the privilege of staying one night at the Jefferson (including dinner at Lemaire). Every aspect of the experience was positive. Our room was enormous, incredibly quiet, and both luxurious and comfortable. It was like having our own apartment in a gracious, pre-war building. The public areas of the hotel are lovely and impressive. The service throughout the hotel was warm, friendly, and professional. The hotel's efforts to make the experience safe and comfortable during Covid were very impressive!! We highly recommend the Jefferson and look forward to a return visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

After 42 years of Commonwealth living I have decided that The Jefferson is no longer my favourite, beautiful, and memorable place. I have attended weddings, receptions, teas, parties, quiet drinks, and many memorable hours at this hotel in all of its incantations since 1978. You will have to do something spectacular to woo me to return. How likely is that? My daughter turned 30 today so we met at the restaurant to celebrate after having to negotiate with a website ( not The Jefferson) for a table that didn’t have us listed. What? No flowers, branches, twigs or vines on the drab beige table? At least the silver was clean. I am sorry that during a global pandemic that elegance is suffering , however you are open and taking in customers. The waitress was sweet and non attentive. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
