What could it hurt to call? A lot, actually...

Mar 9th, 2020

What could it hurt to call??? A lot actually. My conference was cancelled within a few hours of making a reservation. I didn't realize I made a non-refundable booking and called to see if there was anything that could be done. The first agent told me that I would receive a credit for 100% of the purchase price which could be used at a different time, which seemed generous, especially since it was my fault. She also told me that because I was calling within 5 hours of making the reservation, I should try speaking to a reservation manager. I wasn't expecting much more, but I thought, what could it hurt to call? Well, the reservation manager got on the phone with her fangs out and was extremely rude from the moment she said hello. She also decreased the credit to 50% to use at a later time. I have never had a manager offer less than an employee did, and honestly I've never had someone in customer service be so hostile and nasty on the phone. I was simply calling to ask, and would have been fine with what was initially offered, especially since it was my mistake. But there is no way I would want to encounter some this rude in person, and no way I would stay at this hotel. I will take the loss and find somewhere else. There are plenty of other hotel options in Boston that don't hire rude managers. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best boutique hotel by far! amazing team, decor and food/drinks

Mar 4th, 2020

Every time I come to Boston I come and stay at the Kendall due to the wonderful welcome of the staff, the beautiful rooms with Dyson hairdryers, wonderful antiques and patchwork quilts - I instantly feel at home. When I come back from my business meetings at the end of the day, Mark on the Kendall team welcomes me with a glass of wine and a cheery word. In the winter, the fire is roaring, in the summer, jazz is playing. Such a refreshing change from the large hotel chains. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic for what it is

Feb 20th, 2020

I felt a little odd about rating this 5 stars, but I did because it was a 5 star experience for what it was. First of all, the property is adorable. A former firehouse, the charming decor riffs off that - for instance, dalmation touches abound, there are patches of firehouses mounted in a frame, etc. I loved the tasteful decor in the public spaces. This is the kind of place you want to hang out in the small lobby. And they give each guest a voucher for a free glass of wine in the bar anytime in the evening. My husband and I brought books and hung out in the lobby. There are USB outlets/plugs available near some of the seating in the lobby, which is all in cute conversation groups and lighting around each - thoughtful. A cozy fireplace... Another cute/thoughtful touch - free goodie bags in the room with Boston favorites. I would tell you what they are but I don't want to ruin the surprise. Let's just say with a brunch date before our noon flight on our last day I used the goodie bag as my lunch on the plane and was very satisfied. We had a king room and it had a microwave and empty fridge - another nice touch. There was a dresser with plenty of drawer space for those of us (like me) who like to unpack and plenty of shelves in the bathroom (for those of us who bring a medicine cabinet). Free bottles of water. The bed was comfortable and I slept great. The little sofa was comfortable for my husband to sit there reading. The flat screen tv was large and worked great. And the lighting was GOOD! What did I hesitate on the 5-star rating? Example - there is no fitness center on site so they give vouchers for the Cambridge Athletic Center gym but it was freezing out and the gym was a 10 minute walk away. I only brought shorts to work out so I ended up going up and down the hotel's 7 flights of stairs in the stairwell multiple times. Would I have preferred a gym? Yes. Generally for a truly 5-star experience I would want more amenities, but for the price (about $200 a night) the Kendall Hotel at 3 stars was spectacular. I have paid $500 a night for 5-star properties that didn't deliver, so I got my money's worth. A special shout-out to Mark at the front desk who is very welcoming and helpful (actually he seemed to be everywhere). We did the pre-paid parking package and while the garage was the tightest ever, it was wonderful to have such reasonable parking in downtown. The location is great. Breakfast was fine (and included). One final comment: the Kendall is around the MIT campus so most of the guests seemed to have business at MIT. With 3 kids we have done A LOT of college visiting and this is the best college hotel experience I can imagine. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Home away from home!

Feb 10th, 2020

This hotel is beautiful! Warm, inviting, clean, professional staff describe my experience. Unique & thoughtful decor in Lobby, Black Sheep restaurant, and room make you feel at home immediately. The room was clean and fully equipped with coffee maker, mini bar, extra towels, wifi, phone charger, extra blankets. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. Food was delicious with a great variety for morning breakfast. Looking forward to my next visit to Boston and will definitely stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

"Kendall Hotel" Best hotel in the area!!! Amazing!!!!

Feb 10th, 2020

A group of women were there last night Feb.9,2020 for The Oscars!!! We had the best time of our lives!!! Great ambiance and very cozy place. Very clean and lots to see on the walls and everywhere even in the restrooms. Very historic place too. Special touch in each corner. We stayed in for the night too. Every room has its own special touch. The bed was very comfortable and the pillow the best pillow I ever slept on. I usually wake up at night. Well, yesterday I slept like a baby. Didn't want to get up. Breakfast was delicious too. Lots of varieties to choose from. You cannot compare it to any other complimentary breakfast at other hotels. Very helpful staff. They do their best to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. Best location too. I would highly recommend The Kendall Hotel . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
