Wonderful Hotel, but concerned about COVID Measures

Sep 15th, 2020

Very excited to stay at the Lancaster given the consistently excellent reviews it had received in the past. Planned this as a quick getaway for my husband and I ...we had been isolating as much as possible during covid and decided to venture out for the night. Appreciated the hotel's deal for healthcare workers and we booked directly through the hotel with this deal. The valet was easy and the hotel is situated in the middle of downtown next to the theater and several great restaurants. Hotel appeared to be very clean when entering. However, the first thing we immediately noticed was both staff members at the front desk were wearing their masks incorrectly - both below the nose. They were at least behind a large plexiglass, so we proceeded to check in. One of the staff members helped with our bags, rode the elevator up with us, and showed us our room. What was unusual was that when we checked in, I had to show my badge to prove I was a healthcare worker (and would be taking precautions seriously). Shortly after that, in the tiny elevator, the staff member removes his mask and proceeds to tell us about the amenities of the hotel. My husband and I were uncomfortably trying to back away in the small elevator and really couldn't process anything that was being told to us. We just found this initial encounter to be very strange, and it made us worried about what appeared to be relaxed covid measures. We also observed other staff members during breakfast who initially had their mask on, but would take them off intermittently. The room itself was very nice and the bottle of wine was much appreciated. As already stated, complimentary snacks and the room was clean. In the end, we did enjoy our stay... the only hesitation was the mask wearing was questionable as a whole. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Absolutely Wonderful! You Have to Go!

Sep 14th, 2020

I loved my experience here. If I could have given them 6 stars, I would. This was first class all the way. Frette sheets and towels, Bulgari toiletries, choice decor and art, A1 hospitality -- you must must stay here. I was actually going to stay at another hotel, cancelled that reservation and completed my stay here because I was so happy with it. The location is great -- you're not far from Montrose, which is a cool bohemian neighborhood to explore -- and it was very quiet, which was hard to find downtown (I left another hotel downtown because of the noise.) There were really no complaints. I was so sad to check out; it's one of those hotels you literally wish you could stay forever. The staff is absolutely wonderful, but Jenna and Russell were stars. Jenna took care of my reservation seamlessly, gave me an upgrade and Russell was warm, funny and a professional -- and totally New Orleans. I can't speak more highly of them and the staff during my stay. This is my new favorite hotel in Houston and for people that like having their "place" in a city, I 1000% recommend that you stay here; it will become your Houston spot for sure. Thank you Lancaster Hotel! x TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Anniversary Getaway

Sep 13th, 2020

Excellent in every sense. The staff was super friendly and professional, they even had a little surprise for us for our anniversary and upgraded our room. The room was very clean, quiet and spacious. The breakfast was delicious and delivered to our room within less than 15’ after ordering. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Welcoming

Sep 13th, 2020

We live in Houston, but wanted to get away for a one-night honeymoon. We chose the Lancaster because of its reputation and historic value. We were greeted by Russell, a charming clerk, who offered us sparkling wine to begin our stay. In our room, we found a bottle of champagne and snacks galore. We even had a hand-written note to welcome us. It's okay that it said Mr & Mrs, when we're actually a female couple...We joked about it the entire day. The restaurant, unfortunately, was not open (due to Covid), but we had a lovely breakfast in the room which was included in the price. The bed was divine and there were black out curtains so we got our sleep. I would highly recommend this location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Outstanding service, attention to detail and cleanliness!

Sep 9th, 2020

My last review from last summer mentioned how clean the Lancaster was—even more true now! My room was immaculate, as was the lobby. The check-in was smooth and distanced. Despite the distancing, though, the staff was so welcoming and friendly. I wish I could remember the name of the man who brought me my room service. I was in town under stressful circumstances and he truly brightened my day and really made an impact. The room service breakfast included in the rate was absolutely wonderful and the mini bar snacks are great. The staff is able to anticipate the needs of guests and you just can't get there everywhere! The Lancaster's service absolutely rivals that of some of the best brand-name hotels. Please, don't take it from me and stay here! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
