Lovely hotel, amazing service!

Jul 2nd, 2019

I thought the service at this hotel was amazing. I did not care for the first room we were assigned. It was very small and claustrophobic on the 17th floor. This is an expensive hotel. The front desk was amazing in light of the fact that I was not happy. We spent the night there and they moved us the following day to the 9th floor. The room was perfect. The bathroom was lovely. The bar was so much fun ...we loved hanging out there. The hotel is conveniently located on the East Side. Breakfast was very good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Something very special

Jun 30th, 2019

This was my third visit to The Lowell within the last ten tears and it just gets better. Not so much in terms of it continually improving, but more to do with how old school hotel management seems to be a dying art in many other parts of the world, while here it still flourishes. With just 74 rooms, each one differently sized, shaped and decorated, this was a boutique hotel before the term was even invented. Returning guests book by the specific room number rather than room category. All have hardwood floors, fresh flowers, a desk, an armchair and a bathroom with a deep bathtub and a flatscreen television above it, as well as walk-in showers. Nothing is too much trouble and staff are very intuitive. The Lowell is an LTI long-time favourite and rightly so. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This hotel is just not for me

Jun 9th, 2019

After staying at another hotel for many years and having a few problems, it was recommended to us that we stay at the Lowell. My wife was the primary guest, but I also was there most of the time. After quite a few stays, we decided that this just was not the hotel for us. There were just too many issues. Originally, I did not plan to do a trip advisor review as it would not be a good one and most all reviews are positive. But when the sales manager wrote to my wife wanting to know why we cancelled all of our remaining reservations for 2019, and we received absolutely no reply, I felt that they really did not care ,and I would go ahead with the review. I will say that the people were very nice as expected, especially the bell staff, breakfast dining room staff and doormen. All of these complaints were for the same room on different stays. Here are some edited excerpts from the email to the sales manager on reasons we decided to not return These are edited as the email was to and from my wife, so the tense is basically changed with a few changes in wording. The bathroom did not have double sinks. When both of us were guests, this is an inconvenience. We had trouble with the sink having very little water coming out. We complained but it wasn’t until after writing directly to GM, and saying that I thought it needed a new aerator was it finally fixed. The shower had the cartridge replaced as it too did not have good pressure. In a hotel of your caliber, these are things that should be checked before a guest arrives, and not fixed upon a complaint after several days. I was never able to get the heat working properly even after complaining several times. It never worked right. On my last visit, my wife’s clothes got locked in a closet when the door knob was just turning. I was able to mess with it and put her clothes in the other closet until it was fixed.  Also, we were never happy climbing into the bed. My wife is short, and the bed was very high. The living room furniture was not comfortable, so we constantly had to move from couch to chair to the bedroom. And at times, the room would get a smoky smell from the fireplace.  On the last visit, they were painting the stairways, and the door was open letting the smell seep into the hallway and into our room. My wife called down to have them close the door, and when it was not done, I went and untied the cord.  My wife is very allergic, and made everyone aware of this saying she didn’t want maids who wear perfume to clean the room. This was followed in most cases, but not always. All in all, I think we prefer a hotel that is more contemporary, with larger rooms. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Took our friends to NYC for their first visit.

Beautiful Upper East Side stay. Great location, beautiful rooms, staff that went above and beyond. A darling birthday cake awaited us in our rooms, plus fruit, wine and a personal note welcoming us to The Lowell. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
