Stayed here over the weekend for SMU homecoming. Having stayed here before, I was appalled to find out I was charged $500 per night (two night minimum) night for a room with a view of a very nice white wall. Room had no coffee and no turn down service at this price? Staff was pleasant, especially John in the attached restaurant. This is consistent with previous reviews on price. This time, price gouging for homecoming seems a great way to describe how we were treated. Next time, it sure won't be here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Huge disappointment and $$

Nov 5th, 2019

I have stayed here a few times and absolutely loved the experienced. I stayed in a large room on these other occasions, however, this trip I stayed in a premier room for $379+ per night. Not sure what happen in 6 months, however, I was stunned at the changes. In comparison to other hotels at this price point I was extremely disappointed. Bare bones. No room service, sad coffee station in the lobby, beds were lofty and messy, ZERO room amenities, smell in the room was like unshampooed carpet, wifi was spotty and I had to call for it. Room service was late in the day (i had to call for it day one) and there was simply nothing to justify that price point. Better off at a generic "suits" type hotel. Staff has always been wonderful, however, the cost was way out touch. I will never stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Comfortable bed, no amenities

Oct 25th, 2019

The staff were lovely, the bed was comfortable -- but the hotel lacks many comfort hotel amenities ranging from body lotion in the bathroom to kleenex to a coffee/tea maker in the room. There is free coffee in the lobby in the morning. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice , quiet room and peaceful outdoor poolside setting. Would be nice if pool were heated but lovely to sit next to. Would go back again. Very pleasant neighborhood w good cafes and coffee places. Smu is across the street and a great place to take a leisurely walk. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Outright fraud

Oct 22nd, 2019

I reserved a premier room with a pool view. You can see why I got; it was actually a juniper view room with occasional view of the pool when the wind blew the limbs around. When I complained I was offered no apology or upgrade except to the room above which saw the same trees. Advertising this room as having a view of the pool is fraud. The only compensation I received upon check out was a waived $25 parking fee. Yes, they charge $25 per night for valet parking, in their own lot, and they don’t allow self parking. Now I’ve stayed at dozens of other luxury hotels where they charge a token fee to keep non-guests from filling up the spots, and fees due to the hotel having to rent lots from other companies, but never have those fees been as high as $25. IMO this is only greed as guests have no other viable option parking option. The room itself was small and drab. No refrigerator (there was an empty, unplugged mini frig). Old furniture and electrical fixtures (not a single usb in the room). The Lumen is an old hotel that might have been nice at one point. Now is it like a La Quinta with a better pet policy. Not enough to get me to come back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
