Meh! $30 resort fee!!!

Hotel is nice enough but has several negative points for me. Bed is not very comfortable unless you like a very firm mattress. No coffee in room (although I walked every morning a block away to Ashely’s to bring back coffee to the room and enjoyed the walk). But most negative of all THEY CHARGE A $30/day RESORT FEE!!! What resort? It’s a bed in a room! Location was good. Less than a mile to Central Park and the running there is the best in the world! Overall just meh. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Edna is awesome

We stayed at the Maxwell for my husband’s 40th birthday and his first trip to NYC. The hotel was clean and the location was perfect, but the best part of our stay was Edna who checked us in at the front desk. Her smiling face, and warm and friendly demeanor was the perfect welcoming to the city. We got to chatting and realized we both have twin boys! Edna went above and beyond to make our stay special for my husband’s 40th birthday. She exemplifies customer service, and the Maxwell is lucky to have her as an employee. Thank you Edna!! Excellent service & very clean!

The staff and cleaning crew were beyond accommodating during our extended visit. Huge thanks to Ivana for keeping our room immaculately clean! Very refreshing to see such a well oiled machine at The Maxwell NYC. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not up to Marriott Standard

I’m a Platinum Elite Marriott member, so I’ve stayed in my fair share of Marriott properties. I also frequent New York City and know that the rooms tend to be on the smaller side. That said we were pretty disappointed with the superior queen room at the Maxwell. I shudder to think what the standard room is like. We came here for my birthday and found ourselves in a partially updated hotel. The front desk managed to mess up our reservation which I had both called and written about prior to our arrival to avoid. The lobby has been nicely remodeled, but the hotel room was beat up and dark, even with the shades open. The walls are marked up and the bathroom door didn’t close properly. It was also one of those annoying glass doors, which is inconvenient when you want to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking your partner. Additionally, the rooms only have blackout shades, but given that we were on the third floor and wanted some privacy without being in a cave-like setting, some lighter shades underneath would have been nice. Lastly, they charge a $28 resort fee and then give you a $30 credit for the bar...which is a rather frustrating way to keep the bar “buzzing”. It’s clean and you’ll get what you need out of your stay, but for the same price I’d suggest staying at a different Marriott property in the area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent central location, excellent service and great value

First things first- best customer service at this hotel, thanks to Ivana, who works in Housekeeping. Excellent housekeeping services and she was just a lovely person to chat with every day- really friendly and helpful. The location and value for the hotel were great- one drawback-our particular room was really small, which was okay for a short weekend trip, it would have been fine for one person. We used our food comps at the bar and the food was surprisingly good (we ate there super late, after Hamilton). I assumed it wouldn't be very good since it was so late and sometimes hotel offerings aren't great but it was delicious- totally recommend the sliders and truffle fries! Free breakfast was a nice status perk but the limited choices got old quick- would be nice if you could select more choices off the regular menu. Front desk was also great during our stay, as were the concierge services. I continue to be a loyal Marriott person and overall was really pleased with this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
