Just got back!

Jul 18th, 2020

Had a lovely relaxing couple of days. Every single staff person was super nice and helpful. If they are in a position that accepts tips, you should tip them and generously if you can. These people are doing a great job and I'm guessing with the Covid having an effect on their tips they are most likely feeling it in their pocket books. We stayed on Thursday and Friday evening, not many people there at all, most restaurants, bars, gym and spa are closed. The Adult pool was nice, hot tub was open, people staying mostly 6 feet apart. I do wish they had enforced the no smoking and the no electronics. I don't expect people to not bring their phones, but so many people playing music, was annoying to me personally. Your room will not be cleaned, so make sure you have plenty of, towels etc - . We stayed in one of the Premier Rooms and had a beautiful view of the vineyards from the balcony. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not what we expected

Jul 11th, 2020

It was our first time at The Meritage and I was really excited to visit. It was supposed to be our wedding weekend but due to COVID we happened to be one of the unlucky ones to postpone our wedding. We decided to visit Napa and choose The Meritage over the other hotels we had in mind. I had high expectations for this place. Don’t get me wrong the hotel itself is nice, however, upon check in we were told the rooms still had to be inspected for cleanliness which I totally understood as I do work in healthcare. We had our pet with us and we had noticed the welcome doggy goodies that were mentioned to be given for our dog were not given to us. It’s good I had brought him his own food and water bowl. Then the front desk had given us our room keys and upon entering the room, to my surprise, these ladies were inside unpacking. I double checked and it was what the front desk had written. Pretty frustrating after a long drive being given the wrong room number & barging in on other people. I called to let them know and it turns out they had mixed the room numbers up. I have always brought my own disinfectant wipes when traveling and during this trip I’m glad I brought extra. I’m confused as to how they mentioned the sanitation of the room had to be inspected however upon wiping down the toilet seat there was a pubic hair sitting on there. That was disgusting. So much for their inspection. Also, upon pulling out the chair out there were still crumbs from the previous guests and some strands of hair. It’s pretty disappointing when you have high expectations of the hotel. It may not have been my weekend considering I almost had a light fixture fall on me at Fivetown Grocery while waiting in line for some coffee. I’m thankful others and myself did not get hurt because that circle light fixture weighed 100+ pounds. The manager there had handled that situation well I have to say. She had us all evacuate safely and comped our breakfast. Not 100% sure if I want to stay at this hotel again because I held the hotel to a higher standard especially when it comes to cleanliness with COVID happening and all. Maybe I’ll just come to visit the tasting rooms since the customer service there was by far the best part of the weekend. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don't go if you are allergic to dogs!

Jul 7th, 2020

I knew this was a dog friendly hotel. But I figured the room would be well cleaned and not smell like dogs inside. Our room was smelly and there was dog poop outside our room in the sitting area. I don't think I would visit this place again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Do not venture here until they have worked out how o cope with current conditions

Really poor experience starting with the farcical check in process where you can check in at 4PM but no one can tell you when your room will be actually available to use ( actually 2 hours from check in to getting into the room) then to find dusty on glass shelves in the bathroom so much for thorough cleansing and Covid controls. Never again - visit at your own risk

Jul 6th, 2020

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights over the 4th July weekend. We’re generally not harsh critics, but there were a few unforgivable issues with this hotel; (1) we didn’t have a duvet in our room , asked for one on the first night and were told there were none available as they were all being cleaned. We were told to make do with a sheet for the 1st night, and that a duvet would be available the next night. We didn’t get a duvet for the entire four nights. Totally unacceptable for a hotel claiming to be 4 star. (2) the hotel advertised coffee machines in all rooms. Upon arrival there were no coffee machines. Again, we called concierge and asked if we could have a coffee machine. They said no, but said there was a bar that served coffee , which was open until 11pm. Each night when we arrived back to the hotel between 7-8pm, the bar was already closed for the night, with no explanation. When we enquirer, management suggested we visit a Starbucks, the nearest of which was a few miles away. (3) no loungers ever available by the pool. (4) no service around the pool - you have to walk to another bar to get drinks. (5) no room service. There was a room service menu, but when we called down to order, they said because of the time (6pm) we had to walk down to the restaurant t collect the order. Overall the property was reasonable, but DO NOT book this hotel if you want any kind of service. Easily the worst place I’ve ever stayed, and stayed in many hostels and 1 star hotels. Wish I had something nice to say about this place, but it’s honestly terrible. Just hope people listen to this review before booking. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
