it’s a good hotel but I’m not hip enough for it

I chose this hotel for its location close to Gotham Comedy Club, which was the reason for our weekend trip. There isn’t a lot happening in the immediate vicinity but it’s still NYC and there are plenty of bars and restaurants. It was about a 20 minute walk to the Village and under 20 to Penn Station. Multiple subway lines close by if you want to explore farther. The staff were all fantastic. Special thanks to the guys working the doors on an incredibly windy weekend. The bed was comfy and I loved the pillows. The room was a good size for NYC and the bathroom was huge. Great shower. Everything was clean. Maybe the cleanest hotel I’ve stayed at in NYC. The elevators were a new thing for me. You select your floor, not direction up/down, and you are then assigned one of the four elevators. Efficient. My complaint is the $35 destination fee. Yes, you can get that money back with drinks at the bar but it only applies to the lobby bar which was always crowded with people nursing a water or just standing around people watching. It’s no wonder they charge a fee because the bar can’t make enough money without paying customers. The bar was very loud at night. Like warehouse rave levels of loud. Luckily all that noise stayed in the lobby and our room was quiet. Also the crowd was way too hip for me. I have more of a Courtyard Marriott look. Not the hotel’s fault but something to consider if you want a hotel in this area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Cool Lobby Atmosphere

One of my favorite hotels to stay at when I travel to city. I love their lobby ambiance day and night. The service here is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitley recommend this to be a trendy and happening hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Needs some improvement to a lovely modern hotel.

The staff at this hotel is wonderful. That said disappointed that the showers have no grab bars and a slippery floor. While esthetically pleasing this can be dangerous as you have to walk way into shower to get to the water. Also they give you this credit per day to use for cleaning which we did need or to use in bar. Good luck getting near there. One day they were filming and off limits and other days you could not get even close to the bar at cocktail hour. We tried restaurant for breakfast and my eggs were cold, potatoes cold and looked like the were made hours ago. Sent them back took long time to replace and not much better. No coffeemaker in room and could only get coffee downstairs for limited morning time. So if you slept late out of luck. Lobby and bar area done in cream tones and carpeting had many stains. Not very practical in winter or rainy weather. No place to get refreshments unless you walked to store to bring into room or went downstairs . My brother went down to get his wife who was not feeling well a ginger ale and was charged $25.00. For a glass of ginger ale with ice. Want coffee when I get up and do not want to get dressed to go down and get it . Nor am I getting room service for it. I get the upscale vibe and have stayed at several of the Marietta autograph collection hotels and loved them they were more guest friendly and did not sacrifice looks for practicality. That said do not think we would stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Not worth it
Feb 3rd, 2020
Went for a quick weekend visit to the city. Have stayed in many hotels all over and travel frequently. The location of this one is convenient and the rooms are clean. That’s about all it has to offer. The lighting in the room was so dim you can barely see when you’re getting dressed for dinner, there was literally one towel hook in the bathroom, the gym is a B- with only three treadmills and no windows. But the main complaint is the $35 destination fee. The lobby bar was so crowded every time we looked to use the fee for a drink that we could only squeeze in once during our three day stay. Yes you theoretically could apply it to a spa treatment or laundry but those weren’t part of our agenda for our quick visit. So basically the hotel charges $35 a day that you may or may not get to use. If guests can’t be guaranteed to use it, just tack on an extra $35 to your nightly rate. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Service is Rather disappointing

The hotel is located in a beautiful building. I stayed 6 nights with a friend in a suite offering a great view (6 windows!!) and beautifully designed. The dressing area / cabinets seems to be the same size in suites and other rooms. The real disappointment is the service. When we arrived there were not a single bathroom amenity in the room (no shampoo, soap and so on...). Edition pretends to be a boutique hotel ... but boutique hotel shall be all about personalized service and special attention to guests ... which is not the case in this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
