Super quirky hotel in a great location

Aug 16th, 2019

Stayed here for 4 nights last week The hotel once used to be a coffee house and it’s style now is that of new and old with modern touches but exposed brick walls and old rickety lifts Rooms are spacious but felt a bit like being in a loft with exposed floorboards I found staff a mixture of very friendly or quite brisk They have a restaurant but we only used it for morning coffees and it is on the pricey side Hotel is 10 mins walk from French quarter and there are a multitude of great places to eat nearby, none of which that we tried proved to be any less than good A recommended place to stay that is centrally located in the Big Easy TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Location and good bar trump average rooms

Aug 13th, 2019

Location - was perfectly accessible by foot to essentially everything, so this hotel gets a five star for that. Bar - seems happening with very personable drinkmeisters (the hand-made Ramos gin fizz is better than the frozen option but both are interesting and one doesn't feel he has overtasked a busy bartender when ordering the ready-made version). Room - was quite average and showing signs of neglect (shower) which will eventually scare folks off and lead to floor damage if not addressed. My room (205) may have been an exception, so I cannot claim all rooms are the same. Noise - well, that's NOLA and may be a price all pay for what is considered a good location in a crazy town (any excuse for a piss-up). People - the ones I encountered were smiley, made eye contact, and seemed to give a darn that I was being care for. Value - so subjective, but about average. Decision - whether I'd go back or not? For me, sleeping well is very important as is feeling comfortable in the shower. If there is a next time I will request a room that does not face Tchoupitoulas. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Poor attempt at historic charm.

Aug 13th, 2019

Instead of a vacation away from town, our family decided to play tourist and see the sights in our own backyard. Everything about the trip was wonderful. Great food, events, tours, etc., except for the hotel. We thought we would skip the big brand name hotels for a more boutique one. We've stayed in a couple in the city in the past and were pleased with our stay. This wasn't one of those times. The valet was extremely slow. We knew it was a busy weekend with everything going on in the city but we were checking at 3pm on a Saturday. It wasn't that crowed. The front desk personnel were polite but poorly handled a disgruntled guest who cut the line, pushed my wife out of the way so that he can complain to them about something. My wife mentioned this to the other guest and the staff. Both had attitudes after that as you can imagine. We were finally serviced and given a room on the first floor #111. At first glance it was a nice room with decor that hinted to the buildings history as a mercantile & storage facility when the River was at it's doors, but that's where the niceness stopped. The list of things that were wrong are extensive.... 1. the floor had a steep decline in the middle of the room where 1 of 2 beds was situated. 2. the window unit A/C was so loud you couldn't hear a normal conversation in the room & it didn't blow particularly cool. 3. Dust everywhere! 4. the tub drained so slowly, it took our family of 4 almost 2 hours to take showers because you had to wait until the water seeped out before it could be used again. 4. bathroom was so small you could brush your teeth while on the toilet & the door had a window that you could see thru and would light up the entire room when the rest of the lights were off. 5. THE BEDS!!! Were smaller than a full size bed. Now I expect it for me I'm 6'4" tall, but my 14 yo daughter who's 5'8" had her feet hanging over the edge as well. I had high hopes for this stay but I was let down. I've come to the hotel a few times for the restaurant in the lobby, but can't see bringing the family back for a night's rest. Will not be staying here again.

Aug 12th, 2019

I have stayed here a few times and it has always been lovely, but no more. Check in was awful. We checked in early knowing that it was unlikely we would get a room. The valet put our bags on a rack in the middle of the lobby and then walked away to serve other people. We waited 20 minutes for him to return (after asking the front desk multiple times to have someone put our luggage in a secure place), and when he came back he had the nerve to ask "Do you have a problem?" When I explained that I did not want to leave our bags unattended he then told me that there are cameras so he can leave things there. Um no. You cannot leave a hotel guest's property in a public space. Then the front desk said they would call when a room was ready. They never called. We were assigned an interior room without a window, which was quite dingy. The tiles were not clean. The hallways not vacuumed. It is clear they have not kept up with regular maintenance. This used to be a nice hotel but it its not nice anymore. Very disappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You can almost feel the history

Aug 10th, 2019

If you are looking for a modern hotel then you wouldn’t be happy. However if you like staying in a place that has character and history then this is the place for you! Friendly staff, clean rooms and super comfortable beds. Absolutely love the exposed brick walls and the original wood floors. We will absolutely be coming back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
