Nice hotel but there's probably something better in Bruges

Jul 16th, 2019

Mrs. Goose really pushed out the boat for this Christmas present for the Goose and it was a very nice stay in this little cozy hotel but for the Goose it just missed in a few ways. Mrs. G surprised me with a nice stocking stuffer of a gift for two nights in this hotel and Eurostar from St. Pancras to Bruges. If memory serves me we transferred from the plush Business Premier seats in Eurostar to the local trains which were packed with people. Lots of kids and people with suitcases travelling between Christmas and New Years but they seem to have left their manners and respect at home and only packed their clothes. We of course laugh now but at the time it was not is much fun after we left Eurostar. The nice thing about visiting Bruges is that you will COMPLETELY get it the first time you visit so there is no real reason to return unless you like touristy chocolate shops and beer. The Goose has only ever had one beer in his life and he cannot acquire a taste for it so I wasn't keen on sitting in a beer hall there. I am fully capable of having a very good time drinking some wine or an ice cold coke but really some people just sit and sit drinking beer and how much beer can you drink before you say OK enough? So we get to the hotel and the lobby is quite small but Ok for a lobby. Just behind the reception is the little breakfast room where the big breakfast deal is the AGA. I find that a nice touch but a little kitschy really. OOHH look at the AGA-Do you want eggs cooked on the AGA? AGA eggs! Give me a break about the AGA. How about you just make my egg whites on a hotplate I really don't care just be good and nice and polite like the Goose and you get a tip. The Goose doesn't buy into kitsch easily so I say eh who cares about the AGA. More about breakfast later. But it was good I think its the AGA. hahahonk We get to the suite and of course Mrs. Goose likes to see me smile and I did a bit. The room had a balcony and I seem to remember only one bathroom. The decor was a bit odds and ends with some old beaten up desk and some odd furniture. I remember the floor was noisy and possibly laminated. I am not too keen on that kind of decor but the place was packed and I just rolled over and smiled and got out of the room as fast as possible to explore to keep my mind off the room. We went to the Christmas Market and had frites at a market stall and some mulled wine. It was windy and cold but that's good at a Christmas market. Bruges is a lovely town but it reminds me of Venice with all the tourism - I think the local townsfolk must get tired of it all. Sadly it seems like the chocolate shops all sell the same stuff and the souvneier shops abound. We got a suggestion for dinner at a local restaurant and the hotel made the reservation and did a great job for getting us a table. I need to remember the place so I can review it and give it a 5 honk rating. One of the nice things we did during our trip was to walk away from town and walk around the ring of town to see the windmills and the original gated entry to town. We found the breakfast server nice enough but he sounded a little too smoochy to some of the people there and the tables were not cleared as fast as people coming in. I also noticed in some cases there were singles holding larger tables or better placed tables when a couple shows up the only place to sit is by the swinging door-you get the analogy! I think the hotel is nice enough for 99% and the staff polite but honestly there is probably something a little better in Bruges. I still give it a great rating so you can count on the Goose to tell you the way it is. Oh, I also thought the TV in the room was in an odd location and I noticed some of the fixtures that were advertised or shown on photos on their website were not actually in the room. I still kissed Mrs. Goose and said thank you for a lovely long weekend and I am very happy we got to visit this lovely town over the Christmas break together. She's so sweet even when a fox walked into our kitchen this past week and ran away with her pink shoes she wears in the garden Mrs. Goose just acted like it was not a big deal. Can you believe that really happened in central London! Amazing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful hotel with amazing rooms

Jul 15th, 2019

We stayed at the Pand for a weekend recently. We bookes a charming room and were offered to upgrade to a suite for an extra supplement when we arrived. We were shown both rooms to enable us to decide. The staff were so helpful and professional. We sis choose to upgrade and our suite was lovely. Very spacious and we had a balcony. The bed was comfortable and very big and the en suite bathroom had a shower and a Jacuzzi bath. The room was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was served in a charming room with an outside terrace. We were offered a glass of champagne and tea, coffee and juice. Breads and pastries are served on afternoon tea style plates and we were given ham and cheese. Then waiter who was charming and very professional offered us eggs cooked to our liking and these were very well cooked. You can also help yourself to fruits, yoghurt and cereal. We were offered a refill of anything we wanted but what is provided was more than enough. The hotel is in a great location around 20 mins walk from Bruges station and 15 mins to get anywhere in Bruges you may Wish to go. The reception staff were very helpful on where to go and even suggested a lovely walk around the outside of Bruges to see the windmills. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bruges. What a gem !

Jul 14th, 2019

We stayed 2 nights at The Pand in July (2019) and would highly recommend it. Centrally located in the centre of beautiful Bruges, the hotel itself is intimate, beautifully decorated and the staff cannot do enough for you. As soon as we arrived we were very impressed by the customer service , from reception / check in, to the fantastic full waiter breakfast service (which featured meats, cheese , a basket of pastries , cereals, fruit, yoghurt, juices and eggs cooked to your liking right in front of you on the beautiful Aga...oh and the champagne included is a very nice touch!) Would recommend to anyone looking for an intimate hotel , great location and fantastic service TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

breakfast

A totally lovely breakfast with eggs cooked to order on an AGA stove. The only hick-up was the OJ. Minute Made bottled OJ. You'd think that for 450 Euro a night one could findsomeone to squeeze some fresh fruit )LOL) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
