Beautiful bedroom: Bizarre Breakfast

When we arrived a pleasant hostess showed us to our room ( #8) and offered waters. We have no idea who the owners are. Lovely room, comfortable beds and the only issue was a little dampness due to having a window a/c unit. The location was great: easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. We were aware of the alterations due to Covid. However, the only word we could come up with at breakfast was bizarre. You place your order for eggs, bacon and toast at a counter to staff who are in no way friendly . I asked for extra crispy bacon and the reply after a few seconds of silence, was " We'll try". On the first morning we were offered orange juice, and the second morning had to ask for it. There was a tip jar at the counter. How tacky is that at a bed and breakfast. They bring you the breakfast wrapped in foil or in a plastic container, with plastic utensils. Here is the issue: when you walk 5 minutes to the waterfront area and go to a restaurant, you get a glass plate, regular silverware , and a cloth napkin. Perhaps if the staff had been friendlier, that would have eased the letdown of the breakfast somewhat. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely Bed & Breakfast

Full of character and southern hospitality in a beautiful quiet town. Make sure you have a lovely breakfast on the wraparound porch and try the homemade warm biscuits! There are multiple buildings, I stayed at the ‘cottage’ over the road. It had its own parking spot, but it’s only 50 steps away from the main house. The room had a coffee machine and fridge. Should have lowered their prices to go with reductions in services

I'm being kind in this review. The house is lovely, and the rooms are fine (though they won't touch them while you're there, so be prepared to ask for everything you need, and to go get it yourself--new towels, etc). They haven't updated their website to reflect that "limited menu" means "McDonald's-like egg sandwich no better than the gas station variety." And the bikes they have are falling apart. This was the breakfast, taken apart on a plate. Plastic utensils, and the coffee was terrible. Tried it day one, cream was spoiled, tried it today with milk, not much better. Just awful food. Plan to eat elsewhere. Very disappointed. They're obsessive about Covid restrictions to the point where quality doesn't match price. Either lower the rates or deliver. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Think twice

I really hesitated to write this review as this has never happened to us before. We are experienced travelers and have been to many B&B across the United States. This was by far the lowest on the spectrum. I almost thought that maybe they had a death in the family to excuse everything that was wrong with this stay. As with a previous review, there was certainly a lack of communication with us also. The greeting that we received was very cool and we were not shown our room only an explanation and mock demonstration on how to lock our door from a door in the hallway. I think she was the owner, not sure. That we thought was odd. We were given the key to our room and told with a wave of her arm ,it’s out that door and to the right on the patio. She should have accompanied us and shown us personally. No one else was there and she was not busy. We actually wandered for 5 minutes looking for our room outside. We realized, oh this must be the right room because here is the connecting porch. So we tried the lock and it worked. The rooms are not labeled. We had room 10. The room was clean except that the window blinds were coated with a layer of dust. I did enjoy the bath and the Keurig coffee and complimentary water were much appreciated. We did order a breakfast but everything was inedible except the bacon. When we checked out after breakfast, we just left the key on the front desk and had no contact with the owner. This had nothing to do with Covid. We went on to Charleston and Savannah. We stayed in B&B’s at both locations. We did wear masks and kept the social distancing. Both places that we stayed at went above and beyond service. Sit down elaborate breakfasts, made to order, wine in the evening along with sweets and savory finger snacks in the evening. All individually served to each couple, no sharing. It can be done! There really is no excuse for this treatment at a B&B. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So much mis-communication

In the end, our issues were finally rectified by Amy (the manager on duty) during our stay. But not without a lot of aggravation. I called the Inn a few days prior to arrival and spoke with a woman in reservations and advised we would not be arriving until 7-8pm and I was told "fine-no problem". But that was all I was told. Day of arrival we arrived and the house was pitch black and no-one was around and the house was locked. I was a bit panicked so I call and only got a recording. We walked around back of the house and a motion light came on thank goodness. We saw something taped to the door and it was a piece of paper with a room key in a zip lock bag. The paper had my name on it and the diagram showed our room was in the "cottage building across the street". But again, it was dark and rainy so it was difficult to find our accommodations. Eventually we did. Cottage room 18 was pretty much as photo'd and described on their website except it was dirty in some places and there was NO hot (or even warm) water in the shower or sink. Dirt on 1 towel, hair and dust on baseboard, mold on shower floor and something sticky/drip-mark on glass in bathroom. Next morning we told the front desk of the issue(s) and we were told it would be fixed that day. We also asked if they would be cleaning the room or not (as we ran into this on a completely separate trip and were told some places do not clean/change towels during your stay due to the virus). We were told "yes someone will clean your room". That afternoon when returned the room had not been touched at all and still NO hot/warm water. This time when we went to the front desk we were able to speak to the Manager Amy who told us there was a part needed to fix the water. And she had no explanation about why no-one cleaned the room. She offered us another room which was a down-grade but did compensate us. So we had to pack up, move to another room in another building and unpack. Frustrating but at least not a freezing shower. Next day - no cleaning of the room again. When I inquired I was told that there was a door sign that needed to be put on the outside of the door requesting cleaning. Again - so much miscommunication. #1 when I called to say I would arrive late - why wasn't I advised my key would be hanging on the back door ? This way I could ask more questions if needed. We also had no idea what time breakfast would be or if there would be any at all. #2 when the front desk or manager knew the hot water could not be fixed that day why didn't anyone call my phone immediately (or at least leave a note in our room) so we had notice. By the time we were told and offered another room they only had a few room options. #3 why not make it clear to place a sign on the outside of the door if we wanted the room cleaned. So much vagueness. People that work in hospitality really should think outside the box and simply offer up as much info as possible. Wouldn't you want to know these things if it were you ? It made for a very exhausting and frustrating stay overall. As I said, Amy the manager was helpful but so much of it could have been avoided with clear communication. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
