Not as good as the Four Seasons, but good enough

This luxury resort charges rates almost as high as the Four Seasons, but is not as consistent, as it is tough to compete with perfection. Still, we had a wonderful time here overall, and would return for more. Just don’t dine here often, as the food is fine, but the prices don’t justify it. First, the bad, which wasn’t terrible, but for the room price, you’d expect more. We pre-requested things on the Bonvoy app, for example foam pillows instead of feather, but none of them were provided. We also asked no less than three times for a third patio chair for my kid, but never ever received one. We were on bottom floor, so this would have been an easy deliverable. We got a room in building 15 which is next to busy Hollister, so if traffic noise bothers you, stay in a different building. Next, we had planned our day around one of the craft activities we signed up for, but apparently the Ritz person was there, but hid next to the bar, didn’t announce herself, nor ask around if anyone was there for her class. She left exactly at noon when it was supposed to start, so obviously didn’t feel like teaching it. We were very disappointed, and wasted an hour of our precious vacation day. There are carts driving by every few seconds, and the workers drive fast, so be careful around corners. This did annoy us when they wouldn’t stop as we walked the path. Now for the good. The staff in general were all quite professional and accommodating, especially at the front desk. We were provided free dining for the craft class being canceled. Btw make sure you sign up for your activities far in advance of your stay, as they get booked up. Still, some activities had spaces left even though it showed sold out, for example the pool/jacuzzi reservations were available even though we were just walk ins. Whenever we needed anything from Housekeeping, it was delivered in minutes, and they gave us a microwave to use. The resort itself is impeccably maintained, and the Spanish decor was tasteful. The beach below is beautiful with miles to explore, including tidepooling. Our room was generally nice and quiet, and they love dogs here with plenty of lawns and poop bag stations on property. We came here for a 20 year anniversary and enjoyed our time immensely. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The ocean views from around the property are incredible. Try the lounge chairs closest to the ocean! Or eat at the Oak Room patio where both the views and the food are stellar. We will definitely come again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My first time here, and I thought it was stunning! Private villas were beautiful and comfortable - facilities and activities were plenty. While at the bottom cabanas, I noticed a lot of dust, on the curtains and spider webs around the light fixtures. Still enjoyed my experience though. All necessary COVID precautions were enforced. I booked a 5-night stay at the Ritz Carlton Bacara in Goleta, CA using 200,000 Marriott Bonvoy rewards points. At no point during the reservation process did I request a "paid upgrade". However, at checkout I was charged $150 per night + taxes + fees for an "upgrade" to a Double Queen room. Including taxes, I was overcharged ~$1000 for the stay. I tried to resolve the issue unsuccessfully with a Reservations Manager at check-out, and repeatedly (7-8 calls and messages to the hotel) over the past month. The Reservations Manager has been non-responsive when I've left voice messages, and has not taken any proactive steps to resolve the issue. In conversation with Marriott Bonvoy customer service, they said the hotel should contact Marriott Property Support, and that this issue would be resolved, and I would receive a full credit. Over a month later this issue remains unresolved. I've submitted a dispute claim with AMEX Bonvoy Credit Card, posted this experience on social media, and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It has been an incredibly frustrating experience and not something any guest should have to face. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

By far one of the best Marriott family properties Ive stayed at. There is a definite dedication to service throughout the staff at the property. My suite was absolutely beautiful with an amazing view. Food in the restaurants was also great. Can’t wait to visit again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
