5 star service and staff but doesn't live up to Ritz brand overall

Apr 15th, 2019

Stayed for 3 nights as family of 4 in March. The "lobby" is definitely a disappointment if you have stayed at other Ritz hotels. It is attached to JW Marriot which has a huge lobby with bar, shops etc so that was a relief! This is basically a Ritz residence with a few floors of hotel rooms. Luckily the hotel rooms are above the 20th floor! We stayed in 2 bedded room and it was on the small side. Nowhere to store clothes apart from small closet. Bathroom was really small! One sink and the tv in mirror was right in line of sight! When door to toilet and door to shower open, can't be at the sink or you'll get hit! Logistically, a larger common area and no tub would make for sense for a double room. Love the Asprey toiletries. Roof top pool was lovely and the gym was excellent. Bar/restaurant on high floor is Asian fusion which doesn't work for us which was too bad as great views. Had drinks at JW bar instead. Very busy with conventions! We went to NHL and NBA games at Staples center and the 5 minute walk from hotel was awesome. Visiting Bulls stayed at Ritz. I assume people choose $$ Ritz as it is quieter and more private than the JW? Though we had a very loud party next door/in hallway at 12 am one night ... After 2 calls to security it quieted down. So you can never really price out of this problem! of We would stay at the much cheaper JW next time for their common area and to be close to Staples center. Like the other Ritz hotels we have stayed at, the service personnel were amazing. Especially Sara at the front desk. And loads of bottled water, newspapers (5 different ones) and a nice coffee service in the morning. Along with Nespresso machine in room. 4 stars though because of the high price and the fact it doesn't live up to the total Ritz experience - lobby, food etc. It is def a 5 star compared to most other hotels, but that isn't the comparison I am making! Nice and expensive

Apr 8th, 2019

There are pros and cons for this hotel. I will start with the best. It’s nice. 24 hours, friendly and helpful reception. I was staying for a week, asked for a nice room and got one. Upgraded rooms are large, clean, and equipped with nespresso, room safe, ironing, chocolate and drinking water included. Working desk, large bed and armchair. Bathroom with bathtub and shower, warm water and no problems. The safe ran out of batteries during week and was changed within minutes after notifying the staff. Didn’t try spa, but outdoor area with pool and jacuzzi was nice. Breakfast was good. So this is a hotel I liked to stay in - a good hotel. Then the cons. The only thing not up to standard was the bed. It needs new madrasses. Air condition was effective but a little noisy, slept with it off and the window open. This might be a problem with all hotels in LA, but it is expensive. Really. For this price in Europe, you would stay in a palace and have breakfast with champagne - included. Depending on interest, the location might be wrong. There is 15 min walk to the far end of Venice beach, and there’s very little else near by, and poor public transport. St. Monica is 15-20 minutes in a taxi, walk of fame, Rodeo drive, Sunset etc 45-60 min taxi. So, a nice pleasant hotel, friendly staff, nice pool, ok breakfast. Everything overpriced due to being in LA and travel distance to many of the tourist spots. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My wife and I stay at this location often. We absolutely love our RC LA fam. During our stay Brandon took really good care of us. He always makes us feel welcomed and comfort. When we arrived to our room Brandon sent a bottle of champagne and chocolate arrangement. We’ve known Manny, Antonio, and Johnathan for years and their service is always been second to none. Our friends Julius, Ahmad, and Tory in the club lounge made our stay very comfortable. This place will always be home to us and we appreciate the entire staff! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Barely above a Marriott

Mar 19th, 2019

This hotel is wildly overpriced and so not Ritzy. We recently booked a "deluxe king bed" room with a rollaway for the whopping price of $1,000 per night. Upon arrival, we are informed that the room we booked and confirmed in writing was not available, so they took the liberty of moving us to a room with two queens. This is not appropriate for the three of us. They offered to look at the Marriott downstairs for us, but, really? This is not what we reserved. This is not a five star property. Every doorway along the hall is dinged, the bathroom is poorly laid out - a step in bathtub for a shower, and frosted glass separating the bathroom from the room so that one could not turn on the light without waking up the whole room. The door to the toilet area opens out so that you whack anyone who might be standing by the sink. The service on check in was lousy. They should just give up and call themselves a Marriott.
