Club level

Apr 16th, 2019

We are enjoying our stay on the club level. It was $100 extra to upgrade. The breakfast is great. Tonight we will check out the dessert. Our room is huge, but with only a small window. Still I can see the river. We could get many more services than we are using, but the luxury of turn down, fresh towels and chocolates is lovely. The only downside is that the floor is highly glossed wood with no rug even next to the bed. Not so great for seniors. I am afraid of sliding every time I get up. The people down on four who work the concierge level are helpful and friendly. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Grande Dame if New Orleans

Apr 14th, 2019

We were at the Ritz-Carlton for a medical conference organized by Astro. The hotel reflects a sophisticated French luxury historic style with an incredible collection of original paintings and French antiques. So this may be the shortest route to Paris, without you departing from the US. I have to admit that as a French man I really loved it. I have enjoyed the dark wood feutré library and of course the Davenport Jazz Hall. Although we did not experience the lounge floor which was at the time full, we were upgraded to a beautiful suite to the 16th floor that was basically a delightful classic old school luxury apartment in the middle of the French Quarter. Not surprising within the historic 1908 Beaux Arts Maison Blanche building. The Maison Blanche (White House in French) was first a department store in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later also a chain of department stores. It was founded in 1897 by Isidore Newman, an immigrant from Germany. This explains the sometime labyrinth-like design of the hotel as it was assembled around several buildings. There is something magical about The Ritz-Carlton as it retains the grace and charm of a South Antebellum Mansion. (The Antebellum era was a period in the history of the Southern United States, from the late 18th century until the start of the American Civil War in 1861). We immediately fell at home and my son did not want to go anywhere else. What makes the hotel really special is the local Southern sense of hospitality and kindness. The staff is really dedicated and goes out of its way to please like Jonathan at the reception, the food and beverage director bringing himself some fresh toasts for our breakfast in their beautiful Brunch room at the M-Bistro. A real Southern fare treat! At night we were back for live jazz in their chandeliers and private booths room for an incredible treat with Jeremy Davenport! What a cool and delightful voice. We understand that the hotel plans a $35M renovation of all its rooms. This will address some of the rooms that requires some upgrading. This said we hope it retains its French original character. We will be back for sure. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wedding

Definitely not worth the money. It’s old. First, the pull for the shower/bath didn’t work so the wife had to shave her legs in the sink. They did have it fixed after the reception but it was a pain I’ve the neck. The room was pretty hot but eventually cooled so. One night we had crawfish, and I was really looking forward to that but they were so small that it really wasn’t worth the trouble. They weren’t very well cooked (overdone) and weren’t spicy at all. It was a bummer. If you’re going to Spend the money, pick one of the newer hotels. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This property kept up to the Ritz hospitality. Great service, check in and check was a breeze. Late check out was effortless Room was well equipped and very comfortable. Service was impeccable Spent a few hours listening to their live jazz in the lounge on a Friday night. Relaxed ambience with excellent service. Not to mention the location was very convenient. Walking distance to most local attraction. Bottom line. Highly recommended TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
