A really great Ritz resort
Jan 21st, 2020
We had a fantastic experience spending a quick 24 hours at Lake Oconee, with time very well spent at the spa. Spa treatments were outstanding, and the facilities were comprehensive and relaxing. We had a newly renovated lake view guestroom that was one of the nicest Ritz guestrooms I've ever enjoyed. Service was top notch from the front desk to the bar to the valet. We had dinner at the Linger Longer Steakhouse, and the food was very good but the 200% markup on wine prices seemed aggressive. We will be back for warmer weather soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I've been to this hotel several times but this was my first visit to the spa. I was staying at a friend's lake house on a girls' trip and we booked a day at the spa in advance. The afternoon overall was lovely. We each had at least one spa service, had lunch, and then spent time in the steam room, sauna, hot tubs and indoor pool with drinks and apps in the bar before we left. Really nice place with friendly staff. My actual spa treatments, however, were a total ripoff. I booked a 50-minute body balance with an add on of dry brushing. I've had brushing before and it's been a thorough exfoliation. This time, it was a couple of passes here and there, no knees or elbows, just various parts of the arms and legs. Keep in mind, this was an add on ($24) to a 50-minute treatment. I looked at the digital clock in the room as I was undressing and it said 12:06 (my appointment was at noon). I looked at the clock again as I was dressing and it showed 12:48. The cost of this relaxing 42 minutes with a 22% tip -- $248. Despite spending that kind of money, the therapist rushed me out of the room like I've never experienced before. She walked out, said "take your time" as they all do, and then knocked maybe 60 seconds later and cracked the door to ask if I was dressed. I said "uh, I'm still on the table" but I'll get up now. Not even 30 seconds later the same thing happened. I know it's a busy spa but geez! Look, I know when you go to a resort like this you're gonna pay through the nose for spa treatments. And I expect it to be the price of admission for the use of the other amenities. I'm used to that. But this time the treatment itself -- too short, too expensive, too rushed -- really left a bad taste in my mouth. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Not ritz quality

This property is nice but not up to ritz quality. The management does not understand that it is standard to have live music on weekends. The country bumpkin s that manage this place can't seem to grasp the ritz Carlton concept. Overpriced and not a ritz. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Service 5.0.....Hotel 2.0
Jan 7th, 2020
I very much enjoyed the service at the Ritz..from the valet to the front desk to the bartenders and servers...all were excellent. This hotel is not up to par with the Ritz brand..not even close. Very dirty bathrooms...yes the toilets were filthy. Rugs in the bathroom were frayed on all sides...the internet was down for 2 days....the hotel is in desperate need of a face lift. I know they are currently scheduled to do this..but when you charge $500/night and it is dirty and old and the internet doesn't work. I would like my $ back. Disappointed in the Ritz Lake Oconee. Beautiful resort, kid friendly if that's your thing.

We were very much looking forward to our stay at this hotel during our vacation in the south. Its located just outside Greensboro deep in the woods on Lake Oconee. As expected the resort was incredible! The lobby was mainly made of wood with a huge fireplace. The rooms were a little smaller than other Ritz's but still very nice. The resort fee includes such as activities as biking, fishing, spa amenities and even ice skating. The golf course looked to be in incredible shape (wish my game was in a place to be able to play it). The staff was very friendly and attentive like you would expect from a first class establishment. They also have great food options like Linger Longer Steakhouse and Gabys by the Lake. If you are looking for a relaxing couples getaway however this may not be the place. They are geared towards families. They have a Ritz kids area and play areas, a kids train and they allow kids in the spa and bar areas even though it says they are not allowed. It ar times seemed like an upscale Great Wolf lodge rather than a Ritz Carlton. It didnt help as well that it seemed like the guests with children forget that they needed to be parenting while on a vacation. Again, this resort would have gotten a 5 star rating but the too much kid friendly factor could not be ignored. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
