Buyer beware. Don't just look at star numbers, read reviews.

Feb 17th, 2020

We booked this hotel because it was much cheaper than others nearby. It had a 4 star rating in American Expresses list of Scottsdale hotels. Buyer beware. Based on the slick photos you're going to think you're going to a fancy, newish, hipster hotel. In reality you're going to what feels like a frat house. The main building appeared nice but as we made our way towards the building that housed our room we saw the paint peeling and the dirty hallways. We kept trying to have a positive attitude. My husband does commercial property appraisal and he kept saying this hotel was on its last legs before it got bulldozed. We continued to be hopeful. When we got to our room the first thing I noticed was dark blue carpet that looked filthy but it was hard to tell because it was dark. It had stains and hid who knows what. I had the feeling that I was dirty but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I laid down and began reading a book while my husband turned on his favorite university basketball game. I said, "Honey, this hotel feels gross. I don't think I can stay here." He readily agreed and quickly packed up our suitcases and walked them back to the rental car. We've never done this in our lives. And that fact that he did this mid-game tells you how dirty it felt. Later he told me he saw snot running down the walls. If you're in your 20s and having a bachelorette party you might feel like this is ok for a night. But if you're in your early 50s you realize you don't have to live like this. We got a gorgeous room down the street at Hilton Garden Inn that was spotless and had fireplace pits outside. They offered us a free drink coupon. The disparity couldn't have been more drastic. We called American Express to tell them they shouldn't be recommending a hotel like this. We never asked for our money back but we should have done a better job reading reviews and not simply trusting the number of stars. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, mediocre service hotel

Feb 14th, 2020

Fine for the price but expect lack luster service and upkeep. Gym wasn't cleaned the entire time, no new towels, and water cups were empty. Coffee bar opened 30 minutes later than advertised, which isn't ideal on a weekday when in town for business. Housekeeping was late to service room and didn't refresh coffee or toiletries. So, so disappointed...

Feb 13th, 2020

"Hold onto your seat" This is going to be a "bumpy" review, sorry to say! What keeps this place alive is a) location b) very nice staff c) room service d) pools. Now for the hard part...The slider in my room opening to balcony/pool was EXTREMELY difficult to open. There was NO screen door - to let fresh air in without letting insects in or jeopardizing security. The Keurig coffee machine did not operate consistently well over the 3 nights I was there. The bathroom sink faucets are simply a liability in being rather hard to turn on/off and several times? Thought it was in off position when water was still running. Basically, a waste and definitely, water conservation type newer faucets would save them real money. I was pleased to see, at least, the shower head was one of reduced water flow to encourage conservation. I was cold in the early am hours, looked for a spare blanket - there was none. Next day around 5 p.m., I called BOTH Housekeeping and the Front Desk - both phones "rang off the hook" for over 10 mins...No one ever did answer (sigh!) I think their menu offerings are most limited - more spicy than anything. Breakfast two days in a row had just bread - NOT toasted and cold. Bagel was "raw" in that a toasted top when really, the whole thing needed to be toasted. A breakfast downer for sure! Would I go back? No. I would look for other places edging around the area but they have alot of what I call maintenance of their department responses as well as rooms in general. The two people who stand out above and beyond, let me say? Kelly at checkin, superb young lady and a young man name Mark - both hardworking, caring individuals. Again, your people generally very good - but their is a real disconnect between management and staff communication I suspect, in addition to the basic problems noted herein. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Clean but old

Feb 4th, 2020

The room was clean which is a plus. However the towels were small and well worn . Refrigerator did not work. Trouble with the coffee maker. Bathtub drain did not work. To top it off there was a $29.00 resort fee which was not mentioned in the booking. Would not stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Older but clean

Jan 28th, 2020

Manager was extremely nice. Our AC wasn’t working well in our first room and he quickly moved us. We weren’t expecting the rooms to be open to the outdoors, rather than to an interior hallway. They were very clean, but you could tell the property was older. Very nice gardens and pool area. Easily walkable to Old Town. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
