Only has history left

Jul 20th, 2019

First the good the history and style are very interesting and. Worth a look but not a stay. The staff was friendly and helpful and that would be the end of the good. Now for what does not make this a 3 star that alone 5 star hotel. The elevators are barely big enough for two people to fit, the leaks in the ceiling in the hall with buckets catching the drops. Then the rooms a bathroom that I been on cruise ships that had more space. The best was a makeup mirror that towered above my wife. A bed that had no padding left what so ever. Glad I had an air mattress in trunk of my car. Overall I have had better stays in lesser hotels names than at this Hilton TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Historic Charmer

Jul 16th, 2019

My husband and I were in Louisville for the Forecastle music festival. It was our second trip to Louisville, but first staying at the Seelbach. The property is lovely, and as steeped in historical charm as described in every review. Our room was on the 7th floor (the Concierge Level, I think), which meant it included breakfast, happy hour snacks, and desserts in the evening plus a fridge stocked with sodas and water that was available at all times . We took advantage of everything except the desserts, and thought that the upgraded room was very comfortable and a good value. Our only hiccup came at check-in. We were on a tight schedule, and our room was not ready when we tried to check in around 6pm. As such, we had to leave our bags with the porter, and go back through the check-in process when we returned to the hotel after our event. Not a huge deal, but if we had been planning to change clothes or refresh before the event, it would’ve been a much greater disappointment. The location is perfect—just steps from all the action on 4th Street, but also very walkable to museums, distilleries, restaurants, and the waterfront. All in all, a great experience and one we hope to replicate when we visit again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful Historic Property

Jul 16th, 2019

I stayed at The Seelbach when I came into town to attend the Kentucky Derby and loved the whole experience. The hotel itself boasts so much history and elegance. The room was incredibly spacious, the bathroom was smaller than today's modern hotels, but that's part of the charm of staying in a historic property. I loved turning on the tv to learn about the history of the property. Definitely a cool experience and I would stay here again. One of the biggest perks of this property is how close it is to 4th Street Live filled with entertainment, restaurants and more. Definitely perfect when you want to walk around and enjoy the city without having to hop into an Uber. I will say I can't speak much about the staff as my husband checked in from his phone and his room key card was also available within the Hilton app. Super easy and convenient after a long day at the track! Historic hotel in downtown Louisville

Jul 11th, 2019

What an incredible hotel with so much history and potential. While the rooms were not standard, modern and large such as most Hiltons, the history in the building is why you come. The lobby and grand straircase is just stunning. Unfortunately, other parts of the hotel don't see to have the love and upkeep that they deserve. I would have loved to have seen something going on in Rathskeller to truly understand the importance of the room and history behind it. The rooms were comfortable, with nice beds and linens, but the bathroom is where you really notice the smaller size of this historical hotel. Not unexpected though and easy enough to deal with for a couple night stay. Overall, this is a great hotel in the middle of Louisville and a great jumping off point for our Bourbon trail weekend. Hilton Needs to Invest in This Extraordinary Property

Jul 10th, 2019

This one is simple: The Seelbach was once a five-star hotel that has fallen to three-star status. It deserves better. It's a beautiful building with a sumptuous lobby and a world-class bourbon list, and the beds, pillows, and linens are nice even if the rooms are small. It has charm, class, and history for days, even if the location leaves much to be desired (chain-smoking homeless people outnumbered other denizens in downtown Louisville 2-to-1 during our 24 hours there, and there's no easy way to walk to the river--or nice paths along it--despite its close proximity; but all that is the fault of city and state officials, not the hotel). The bar should be a must-visit for any bourbon lover, though be prepared to spend as the prices are high. But to say that this hotel needs modernizing and investment is an understatement. The carpet is old and musty in common areas and in the rooms; the bathrooms are tiny and terrible--there's no reason a historic hotel this should have plastic pre-fab tubs or cheap fixtures that fall apart when you turn on the water--and the "executive lounge" was worse than some budget hotels I've stayed in, with a weird smell and nothing worth eating or drinking. My wife chose this property partly due to its Hilton affiliation as she is a Hilton Diamond club member. But the hotel did not upgrade us due to that status, citing a wedding party claiming most of their rooms, and the neglect and underinvestment in this property was so obvious that it made us wonder if we should stay with Hilton or go back to SPG/Bonvoy from whence we came. Honestly this property deserves so much better. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
