AMAZING STAY!

Feb 11th, 2020

We will certainly be back! We needed a short 5 day get away from the grey, damp, cold of New England. We have been to Turks four times and it is such an easy get away. We have stayed at The Palms twice, Seven Stars and now the Somerset. We were absolutely thrilled with our experience at the Somerset. We were greeted with rum punch, eucalyptus fresh cold towels for after travel freshening and a show to our room. The view from the double balcony was superb. We stayed in a two bed, three bath property that was spacious and beautiful with a family, dining room and kitchen. The overall property is beautifully kept, has outstanding service and the food was top notch, we were so happy. The pool, beach and wait staff (ask for Nadine by the pool) were friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to get to know us and ensure our satisfaction throughout the day. Breakfast was included and great (plus we ordered a la cart too), lunch was delicious and the Somerset beach party was the best with a dj, dancing, outstanding food, drinks and a fire show. It was one of our best nights. The staff worked all day and into the night and made sure that everyone was having a blast and truly enjoyed the event with us. Nadine and my daughter danced all night. Overall, it was nice that the resort was quieter than others we've stayed. We used the clear bottomed kayak and resorts sailboat too. Cameron accommodated us for each taxi ride and he was responsive and extremely friendly. We love Turks and will without a doubt be back. We will be staying at the Somerset again!! Wonderful resort!

Feb 11th, 2020

We spent 18 days this year at this resort and loved it as much as we did last year. It is a beautiful property with a wonderful restaurant/bar. The pools are spectacular and the beach is pristine with snorkel gear, Hobie sailboats and paddle boards included. The staff is the best from the bellman to the beach/pool and restaurant staff! Very friendly and accommodating to all our needs and requests. The Tuesday night Barbecue on the Beach was delicious and so much fun. It is our “home” in paradise! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Week in Paradise

Feb 10th, 2020

We just spent an amazing week at The Somerset on Grace Bay. The pristine white sand beach and clear blue waters of Grace Bay are spectacular. Now I know why Turks and Caicos is always listed as having one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Each morning the beach had been raked and the lounges and umbrellas were ready for the guests to arrive. The water was so clean and clear and very calm. The resort has a lap pool and an infinity pool overlooking the beach. There were floats available for those wanting to relax in the pool. We were able to easily go between beach and pool and the staff happily accommodated our requests for chairs, towels and umbrellas. Shoutout to AJ who was so friendly and greeted each family member by name every day. The staff was always available to set up the water sports equipment - our family made use of the Hobie Cat, stand up paddle boards, clear bottomed kayak and snorkeling equipment. It is an easy walk to Coral Gardens, a national park reef right off the beach with excellent snorkeling. We also made use of the bikes to explore the area - the shops in town are less than a mile away. There is also a gourmet food market that carries anything you want. Our boys also enjoyed playing golf which is only a short ride away. Our three bedroom villa on the green was luxurious and incredibly spacious for our family of five. There were three bedrooms, 3-1/2 baths, living area, dining area, full kitchen and laundry facilities. We did not rent a car, but used taxis to get around. The cost of the taxis was offset by not having to rent a car for the week - definitely a good decision - easy to get to and from the airport and any dinner reservation we had that was not in walking distance of the resort (and we didn't have to drive on the left side of the road!). You can order food and drinks from the beach or pool chairs, but we enjoyed lunch by the tables set up poolside everyday - easy and delicious with lots of choices for every palate. Both Jodesti and Nadine did an excellent job taking care of our orders (especially important since we have two family members with a food allergy). The chef was very good at accommodating their needs for every meal. We enjoyed dinner at Barbetta, the new restaurant onsite at The Somerset. The tuna tartare with avocado was so good we went back another night for more! On Tuesday nights they host a beach BBQ that was a fun evening for the whole family. The staff takes great pride in the event - beautiful setting with a nice variety of food available at the buffet. The entertainment makes for a special evening all around. Overall, a great small boutique resort with an amazing staff ready to accommodate your every need. We can't wait to return to this special place! Thank you for a fabulous vacation! Horrible customer service, poor room maintenance. Ruined my daughter’s wedding day.

Feb 9th, 2020

**UPDATE AFTER MANAGER RESPONSE** 1. We let you know of the fall the next morning because it happened late at night, and by the time she got back to the room and gathered herself up, the front desk was closed. 2. We asked that a Dr. be called to the room on her wedding day, You offered to schedule her an appointment at an Urgent care that she would need to drive to and spend hours at ON HER WEDDING DAY! 3. I NEVER stated that she had just gotten out of the shower when she fell. That is a complete and utter lie and your way of trying to deny liability. 4. If her husband was not listed as a registered guest, then that was the fault of the front desk staff at check-in. 5. I never “threatened” to give a bad review if I didn’t get credit for a night. I am giving you a bad review because it was a horrible experience! *Original review* We rented a 1 bedroom ocean view suite for 2 nights for my daughter’s wedding. The night before the wedding, her fiancé had forgotten his key and was not let into the front gate, he had to FaceTime her and have her walk down to the front gate to let him in. As she was walking down the hall in her room, she slipped and fell on a giant puddle of water that was leaking out of the Viking refrigerator. She slipped and landed on her left hip and side on the hard marble floor. She was in intense pain throughout the night, on her wedding day and now still 5 days after it happened. Along with the refrigerator leaking giant puddles of water, the AC was also not working. We called maintenance in the morning and when they got there to fix the AC, we were accused of “freezing” it because it was set too low. The thermostat said to not set it below 72 degrees, it was set at 74 when we got there and we had not touched it. Maintenance man fixes AC, then maintenance shows up to fix refrigerator..in and out all day long while the wedding party and bride were trying to get ready...disrupting the bridal party, photographer and hair and make-up artist. I went to the front desk to let them know about the fall last night and maintenance people in and out, and asked if we could please switch rooms as this was ruining the entire wedding experience. We were told that the Only rooms available would be an upgrade and he couldn’t approve it because the manager didn’t work on Sundays. Let me add that this place was desolate..hardly anyone there, the rest of the wedding party stayed next door and at night you could see that only 5-10% of rooms had any lights on in them. The day after the wedding, we returned to talk to Foster the manager..he was rude, condescending, and unaccommodating. When we told him about the fall he said “well she allegedly fell”...NO SHE ACTUALLY FELL. Her fiancé was on FaceTime with her and we have a video and pictures of the giant water puddle in the hallway/kitchen. We asked him why our room couldn’t have been changed and he stated that all those issues didn’t warrant a room change. Hmmm.. let’s see, slipped and fell on water from leaky refrigerator and was in pain on her wedding day, AC not working, maintenance people in and out ALL DAY long, iPad not working so we couldn’t access menus to order food....what exactly DOES warrant a room change?? I then asked if they would comp at least one night to make up for the horrendous experience and the best he could do was to give us a $250 credit. 2 nights...$2900, injured bride, ruined wedding experience. Would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Stay away if you want to enjoy your vacation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Injured

Feb 8th, 2020

Stayed here for my wedding weekend, my (now) husband and I arrived at different times the night before our wedding. They let me in through the locked gates with no problem, I went to our room and was there for maybe 2 minutes before I got a call from my husband. He was outside the gates and the staff would not open them for him. This already aggravated both of us because they let me (a white woman) in with no problem at all, but refused to let my husband (a black man) inside. After getting this phone call I quickly walked from the bedroom to the front door of the suite go get my husband who was not allowed entrance into the hotel he was paying for. The Vikings refrigerator had been leaking (unbeknownst to me) and created a large puddle which I slipped in while walking to retrieve my husband from outside the gates. I fell very hard onto my left hip onto the marble floors, and was in a significant amount of pain on my wedding day and for the remainder of my vacation. The manager Mr. Roberts denied any of this happened at all, even though the next day there was maintenance in and out of our suite fixing the refrigerator for over 2 hours while me and my bridesmaids got ready for my wedding. I asked for a room change and was denied. I then asked to be reimbursed for the room we were staying in since it was negligently prepared and presented for guests, again was denied. Management offered nothing and quite frankly was rude during the entire encounter. Extremely disappointed with the customer service and obvious racism exhibited by this luxury hotel.
