Note Beautiful than functional

Sep 17th, 2019

My first impressions of the St. Regis is that it has a beautiful lobby and excellent service from the front staff. There have been several major renovations in the last decade and the rooms and finishings are crisp and modern. In particular, our room (a suite upgrade via Amex) had an amazing shower and plenty of space. Also, the staff is excellent. The cleaning and bar staff were especially excellent. The downsides really start to show when it comes to some of the details of using a historic building for a modern high end hotel. We were staying on the 4th floor (room 410). There was some machinery on the floor above us (I’m guessing an air conditioning unit) that would vibrate periodically. This in itself was not such a problem, except for the fact the hanging chandelier was glass and the vibration caused a furious rubbing noise throughout the middle of the night when it would kick on. We were able to silence it around 4:00 am by shoving toilet paper in various parts that rubbed. To add a little more hilarity, the smoke alarm must have had a dying battery, because it brightly flashed periodically throughout the night. The overall effect was that we were staying in a low budget night club. As a final touch, power to the whole room went out once while I was using the bathroom (which was made out of black granite or marble). It made the bathroom into a sensory deprivation chamber for several minutes until the Butler was able to get the power back up. (We laughed pretty hard at this to be fair). Overall, I would not stay here again. For the price, I expect to be able to sleep through the night. Also, I sincerely doubt I am the first guest to experience the chattering chandelier. Great effort, but the details need work. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bar Review

Sep 16th, 2019

You MUST go to the bar. Great service, as expected, great ambiance, and perfectly made cocktails. The GM should share best practices with the St Regis in Florence as the Rome location was by far a much better experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

High End Property But Needs Improvement

Sep 15th, 2019

We stayed here on the last two nights of our trip. Our first night here was almost magical. Upon arrival, we had a fruit plate and cookies in our room which could have been larger but was very nice. We at a late lunch and the food was delicious. We went on a night tour of the colisseum and came back to the bar. We ordered perfectly chilled champagne and listened to a wonderful pianist. This was a wonderful experience. The next night, however, was a different story. We were seated at a table near the singer who was loud and not very good. The waiter refused to seat us in a quieter area so we left and went elsewhere. I am still shaking my head about the singer and the waiter's refusal to relocate us. The service was very good but not perfect as the hotel would have you believe.. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

An Amazing Rome Hotel!

Sep 14th, 2019

From check-in to check-out, the stay here at the St. Regis was wonderful. We only had a quick weekend visit but the service was outstanding (including Daniel at the front desk - a hero)... the location was excellent (quick walk or taxi to all locations)... and our room was truly elegant. The lobby is incredibly stunning as well. And... we enjoyed the traditional champagne ceremony each evening plus the piano player to help entertain us during happy hour. When in Rome - there is not a better place to stay than at The St. Regis. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
