NYC Hotel for Sure

Jun 13th, 2019

The Pulse is NOT anything like a Marriott Resort hotel. This is NYC, where like many other large cities the rooms are not the biggest. But the room here at the Pulse was much larger than the room at the Renaissance where we stayed a few months ago. The room was clean, good layout and perfect in the way of storage. There is a safe in the room and a small refrigerator, a coffee machine as well. We were on the 11th floor facing the street and of course had a great view of the Empire State Building. The bathrooms are a nice size but lack shelving for your toiletries. They do provide the needed toiletries in the shower. The lighting isn't the best and there are no fans. If you are lucky enough to get downstairs early there is free coffee/tea and some donut holes to share. More times than not there was only coffee/tea. I was very surprised that whatever snack they provided wasn't provided all day. Cookies must be a problem to provide. There is also a large water feature when you first walk in to the lobby, just hope that there are cups to take. More times than not there were none by late afternoon. Sorry, but these are the details that either make or break a hotel. . I was very unhappy with the noise from the hallway from the other guests that thought nothing of speaking like they were on the street at 2am in the morning. I have stayed at many places but have never experienced the noise within. It made the stay less than pleasurable. The doors may feel solid but sound travels very well through those doors. When someone else closed their door, ours vibrated. We were away from the elevator but we heard it just the same. We did enjoy our stay since we didn't spend our days in our room but at night after a long day one is looking for some peace and quiet and I was disappointed at trying to obtain it here. It was a nice stay aside from overlooking some issues. This place is centrally located and in walking distance to some major attractions. There is valet parking but don't expect to be able to take your car and use it. It is given to you upon check out. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great people who do help visitors

Although the rooms were small, they were very clean. Convenient location to most theaters and attractions. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. They greeted us by name whenever we passed through the lobby. Had a great time. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Avoid

May 26th, 2019

Very tiny cramped rooms, unfriendly (sometimes hostile) staff and few amenities make this a destination that you should avoid. The restaurant was only ok. Not much on it and only average when we got it. Like every other brothel in NY, the push liquor heavily which I personally find offensive. No one over 21 was allowed up top which deprived our children the ability to take advantage of one of the positive things this hotel advertises. Too bad. There was a lot of potential for this property. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Boutique Hotel with TERRIBLE Lighting in rooms!

May 24th, 2019

This Marriott property lived up to my prior Marriott experiences (which are excellent), however the room was painfully DARK. There were 2 lamps in the room, one at the desk and one between 2 beds on the one nightstand, and a mood light behind the headboards and mirror - no ceiling light. Did I mention the bathroom? You could barely see yourself to brush your teeth or apply make-up! The bulbs were obviously early generation energy savers. With a name like Marriott, why hasn't money been spent to upgrade to LED? Shame on Marriott, which is usually a solid 4+ star in my book! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A pleasant surprise!

May 24th, 2019

I've had single night stays in lots of 3 and 4 star NYC hotels. They are pretty much the same, usually with tiny rooms in good locations. This hotel had some extras, however, that made it more. The room was larger than expected, with a nice bathroom. The lobby had a comfortable downstairs lounging area, with a gym and some snacks sitting around. They run daily walking tours to different parts of the city. Tea and coffee available at the downstairs bar, and they have a really lovely rooftop bar. The only disappointment was that the beds were only available as doubles. A nice experience in a great location, not far from Penn Station and Times Square. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
