Located on the Upper East Side, providing a quieter atmosphere
Pricey room rates
This art deco-beaux arts boutique hotel sits on Manhattan's posh Upper East Side, tempting travelers to indulge in mouthwatering cuisine at Café Boulud, stroll around the property's private rooftop garden and sleep soundly in the cozy, intimate accommodations. Each of The Surrey's salons and suites comes appointed with extravagant extras, such as an iPod docking station, a sleek flat-screen TV, deluxe Sferra bedding and even a fireplace and private terrace (in select rooms). Most recent visitors praised The Surrey's location and ambiance, noting it exudes a true New York City experience rather than a touristy one. Past guests noted the prices are high, but many said the hotel's plush guest rooms and gracious staff made the cost worthwhile.

Critic Reviews

In 2009, the Beaux Arts Surrey was literally gutted and rebuilt at a cost of $60 million. In the process it was transformed, well, into the sort of hotel that one usually sees downtown rather than up.

After a $60 million renovation in 2009, this 190-room hotel on the Upper East Side is ready to pull guests away from the nearby Carlyle with room service by Cafe Boulud, a private rooftop garden with butler service, and some of the most comfortable hotel beds in New York.

The New York Times

The Surrey has all the makings of one of Manhattan’s fine hotels and gets a boost because of its attractive location. However, the service in some areas could use improvement.
