Friendly, Comfortable, Clean, Accommodating and Best Location

Oct 14th, 2019

We loved our long anniversary weekend here. Everything about the hotel is great. Breakfast is delicious, room is very comfortable, the staff is very friendly and helpful and they even remembered that it was our anniversary. We would come back without question. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best location in Martha’s Vineyard

Oct 10th, 2019

We stayed for 2 nights in The Sydney. The decor is very modern, bright and comfortable. Our room was in the Captain’s House. 2 lovely arm chairs in the bay window looking out over the street and front garden and a very comfortable bed with luxurious linens. The room does have a harbour view although this is in danger of disappearing unless the tree outside is pruned. The bathroom is a bit snug but ok for a short stay. We did struggle a bit with the shower controls - some instructions in the room would be helpful. Hotel Manager Tracey is very welcoming and provides answers for everything you need to know. Breakfast is described as “small plates” but actually was much nicer than we expected, tea/coffee, fruit juice, oats, yogurt, fruit. The hotel also has well needed parking space in Edgartown. This was our first visit to a Lark Hotel but would definitely stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Fantastic boutique hotel!!!

Sep 25th, 2019

My husband and I just returned from three nights at this beautiful, newer hotel right in the heart of downtown Edgartown. We stayed in the original captain's house and loved it so much, very quaint but upscale, colorful, and interesting. The other, newer rooms are much more modern and hotel-like. Look at the great on-line photos. Both are wonderful! She sheets are the softest I have ever slept in. I actually took a photo of the label of them to try to find something similar for my bed. The breakfast food that Tracy, the manager, prepares HERSELF is just amazing, very curated, delicious, and filling, and will keep you full all morning. Don't miss the afternoon chocolate chip cookies! The staff is very helpful and sweet. They have parking on site, but only 7 spots, so arrive early on your day there to secure one for your stay. Within walking distance to everything, I think it is the perfect place to stay. The lounges and outdoor fire pit/patio areas are just wonderful also. They have two other sister hotels downtown, but this one is the best location and I think so gorgeous and lovely. Can't wait to go back. Love the Lark Properties!!! Enjoy! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

NOISY - and staff and manager can't find a solution

Aug 31st, 2019

The rooms are nice enough, but both rooms we had were NOISY, as is keeping a guest awake. Room 204, in the new building, features a bed on the same wall as the tv in room 203. So, when the person in 203 listens to the tv until 2 am, so do you. We were kept awake. They started the tv again at 7:30 am, waking one of immediately. We spoke to the manager who was quite considerate and helpful, moving us to another room. Room 4, in the older building, is immediately above the bar of the restaurant l'Etoile and the loud music comes directly to our room. We were told that the music was turned off at a decent hour. That hour came and went, the music played on. We spoke to several Sydney staffers by phone. They claimed they could do nothing but make a request to the bar. The phone number for the manager was forwarded to the staffers who continued to accomplish nothing. Music in our room followed by more music in our room. So, the hotel manager moved guests with a noise problem to an EVEN NOISIER ROOM. Does the manager have a clue? Was the manager attempting to punish us for complaining? We are hoping that we will not be paying for these disrupted nights of sleep, but we have not yet had a chance to discuss that with the manager. Meanwhile, it's an hour later; the music continues and we're changing rooms in the middle of the night. Not acceptable. Room 204 has air conditioning equipment on the flat roof above it. There are times when it sounds like somebody is revving their monster truck on the roof. After a second visit from the repairman, the monster truck sound was less frequent. Room 4 is directly above the bar of the restaurant L'Etoile. The music could just as well be in room 4. Although the hotel told us that the music shut off at an early hour, it does not. The hotel has no power over the bar/restaurant. After several requests from the hotel, the music stopped for a few minutes, then started up again. It's now midnight and I can hear the music loud and clear. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice MV Choice

Aug 20th, 2019

We stayed in Room 2 in the Captain's house. The room was nice, clean and a nice size. The "expansive windows" in the hotel's website description provided a view of nothing other than a giant white tent that the restaurant below uses, but they do provide great light. AC worked well and bedding was nice and soft. We had a cable tv issue and the general manager came and was able to get it fixed. She was very nice. The only complaint I truly have is one night the music from the restaurant was quite loud with a lot of base and when I complained to the person at the front desk the response I received was "We have never received that complaint before, but we are not associated with the restaurant so we can't do anything about it." The website also says they have the breakfast small plates and afternoon snacks, but while we were there the only "snacks" were the same biscuits and muffins that were out at breakfast. All that said the positives far out weighed the negatives and we will look at the Sydney for our next Edgartown vacation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
