Stayed over after Wedding

Mar 7th, 2020

Attended a friends wedding at the Umstead which was beautiful. And since they had a block of rooms decided to stay. The room was spotless and being a germaphobe clean freak it’s passed my high standards. The bed was very comfortable and room relaxing for the time I spent in the room. I think someone should show quests how to use certain amenities like the iPads in the room to control things. The valet guys were very friendly. And the Sunday check out front desk girl was nice as well. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Top notch accommodations and service

Mar 3rd, 2020

I have family in the Raleigh area so I visit a few times a year. The Umstead is by far my favorite hotel in the area, so much so that I have rescheduled trips around its availability. The rooms are well appointed, comfortable, clean and up to date. The service is professional but friendly and accessible. Most importantly for me, one of my family members has numerous life threatening food allergies. We had a great breakfast at the hotel restaurant and the staff did an excellent job accommodating his allergies and keeping him safe. Thanks to everyone at The Umstead for another excellent experience all around. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Mostly a gem of a hotel

Feb 29th, 2020

Lovely location and grounds, surrounded by tall trees and a scenic pond. Nice paved walking trail around the waters edge. The rooms were fantastically clean and classically luxurious. Housekeeping was outstanding. Turndown service, one of the best I have ever had in the United States. The restaurants serve delicious meals, we were very impressed with the food quality. One thing to be aware of is the hotel has a very formal atmosphere. There are dress codes for dinner and a rather hushed feel around the lobby and other public areas. Also, during the weekend that we were there, they would not let guests use the spa facilities unless they paid over $150 for a spa treatment. This was very unwelcoming and disappointing, being a guest who had traveled far to be at this hotel. Plus because it was winter the outdoor pool was shut and so the hotel activities felt very limited. One thing to be aware of, you are quite far way from civilization. Luckily we enjoy nature and welcomed the all natural location and respite from city life. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Cold overcooked chicken

Feb 29th, 2020

We Sat at the bar. Staff were good but the food was terrible. Chicken was overcooked & cold, steak was cooked well but served on cold plate & tasteless ... so everything went cold before we finished eating our meal. The best dish was the steamed broccoli - which is very hard to get wrong! Disappointed considering last time we visited it was amazing. Hope this is just a bad night & not a regular .... however they should be serving meals on heated plates to keep food warm (considering it’s middle of winter & freezing). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
