This is a cute, historical (ca. 1850s) hotel, with the relaxing atmosphere of a B&B or cottages style. Affordable too, if you're looking for a room with two queen size beds, and 2 short blocks to the main drag of Santa Barbara (State St.). Perfectly decent continental breakfast, cheese/wine, and night time cookies and milk. Parking is tight, but was not a problem, as we walked everywhere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What a great hotel. My wife did a clinic here and we both LOVED it. The Upham mixes old school quaint with modern amenities. Far enough from State street to be quiet but close enough to stroll State and eat at great restaurants. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here for one night in September on our way to LA. The hotel looks quaint from the outside and the wine and cheese was complimentary in the afternoon. There was also milk and cookies in the afternoon. Our room was in the main hotel and I was disappointed with it. It definitely needed some TLC and refurb. Breakfast was somewhat limited but ok. There were a few tables to sit at for breakfast. To be honest I was glad we were only staying one night. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I’ve been visiting The Upham Hotel since the 1980s. It was a getaway when I lived in Los Angeles and a home away from home when my daughter attended UCSB. I stayed at The Upham in late Sept. after a several year break. Much to my delight the Upham was the same historic building and cottages but updated and upgraded finishes (floors, furniture and amenities). The floors still creak but there are now fluffy bathrobes provided. I also enjoyed Louis restaurant which on the premises. It hasn’t changed - friendly service and fresh California cuisine. I highly recommend The Upham for anyone wanting a quiet cozy intimate hotel experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I wasn't expecting to have such an enjoyable stay at this hotel. I requested a quiet room and they gave it to me without hesitation. It was very comfortable. The establishment is professionally managed and maintained and I would definitely stay here again for another wonderful weekend in Santa Barbara. The hotel is a short Uber ride from the train in a beautiful neighborhood. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
