Good Family Resort

Aug 13th, 2019

We recently returned from an enjoyable 10 night stay at the Verandah resort. Our party included 14 people and ranged in ages from 18 months to 77 years and was a 40th celebration for my Brother in law. We chose the Verandah because of the range of activities the resort has for children (we had 6 in our party) and the good sized rooms that were available. I will start by saying this is a nice family resort which is good at catering for different age ranges of children and big parties. However this resort could be excellent with some more investment and also some smarter decisions which could take the image and direction of the hotel forward. The plus points - room size great, amazing views from the waterfront suites, comfortable beds, rooms a little dated but everything works well and great air con. The main beach was excellent along with the choice of water sports which allowed my kids to experience without additional surcharges. On the whole the food was good especially for a bigish all inc resort and the main restaurant did well to keep mixing up the choice. The crazy golf course was good and well maintained and my 10 year old played this 5 times so he loved it. The tour desk had a good variety of trips and a very helpful manager in Evien who went above and beyond when there was a mix up with our zip wire trip. There are however things that in my view date this resort and should be considered to modernise and further improve the reviews and overall experience from its clients. These comments are coming from a constructive place as I genuinely believe this hotel has so much more potential. The wifi room charge and general poor WiFi in the public areas. I am on holiday yes but part of that is to keep up with the things you enjoy like sport and in this day and age you shouldn’t have to battle to get WiFi via a poor hot spot signal especially in a 4 star hotel. This is a family resort and like it or not Kids these days want WiFi to connect with friends, play games, check social platforms etc the resort should embrace this. The $10 a day WiFi room charge is dated and will continue to give this resort negative reviews, if you really need to charge for this then be smart just build it into the price for everyone and take away the negative barrier that exists in many of the reviews. The service overall at the restaurants and bars was not as friendly or inviting as it should be and I found it strange as it was not like this when I visited a different resort in Antigua 3 years ago. There are pockets of happiness such as Peter in the sea breeze restaurant and Jose the pop corn man, who also keeps the pool area tidy but overall smiles and happiness are not given out to often. The buccaneers restaurant In my view was disappointing the food not as good as the beach grill or seabeeze and the fine dining experience at Nicole’s with the $40 dollar a head additional charge should be reviewed, by all means have a surcharge for special things like quality steak or a lobster but really $40 dollars per head needs rethinking as it’s a waste of a restaurant space that could be used to add a different experience that everyone could enjoy. Add some life to the eating experience with more fun and theatre and modernise this space. The Caribbean is all about fun and colour and this space has potential to take your dining experience to a new level. The pool area does get busy especially during Carnival time and the music levels around the pool are in my view not necessarily conducive to a relaxing experience but this is personal to me. Kids loved the large pool and the water was lovely and warm. Overall our party of 14 enjoyed the stay, have good memories and I certainly miss the amazing views from room 125 and other parts of the resort TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loyal Verandah Guest

Aug 12th, 2019

It’s not only the Beauty of the Resort and it’s surroundings that capture your heart, but the warmth of the people at the Verandah that makes you feel like you’re among family. I’d return in a heartbeat. I can never forget Ms. James and Mr. Bramble, who went above and beyond to care for me and my family. We love you guys at the Verandah. Hope to see you again (soon). Antigua Vacation

Aug 9th, 2019

We are a couple who just returned from the Verandah. Even though we could have stayed at the sister resort, Pineapple, we chose Verandah because of the reviews. Verandah’s lush vegetation and beautiful walks makes it a nice relaxing stay. The walks were rather hilly so it is something to be prepared for but we appreciated it after all of that food and drink. The rooms are duplex style villas and while they are a bit dated, they are spacious, clean and most have water views. There are 2 beautiful beaches both with their unique options but we preferred the smaller beach, more adults and of course the Rasta bar was a lot of fun. The excursions were fun - we definitely recommend Shirley’s Heights on Sunday evenings. It wasn’t expensive to get to and a $10 entrance fee gets you some of the most breathtaking views of the Nelson’s Dockyard part of the island and some wonderful music by both the calypso orchestra and a live band at sunset. The BBQ is also just wonderful. We were there during “low” season and it was quite the gathering of people from across the globe at dusk. Even though we did get some rain a few days, we managed to have a lot of fun exploring both the island and the resort. The staff are low key but lovely and a lot of fun to talk to and hear their stories. They do get to know you and will smile and wave every time they see you, which really is a nice inviting feeling from such a busy place. We are seriously considering bringing the kids next year....definitely worth it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So Close Yet Still So Far

Aug 9th, 2019

Resort layout, rooms, and beaches are nice. Service and Food are not. This resort has so much potential so it truly is a shame. I am not sure if it is ownership or management but just about everyone employee you encounter just seems miserable working there. No smiles, no hellos, just grouchiness. This reflects on the food as well. If a resort can't even present a nice breakfast buffet you know you are in trouble. They then have the nerve to charge you $40 per person extra on top of the all inclusive fee to eat at their "nice" restaurant called Nicole's only to get the same poor food and service as all the other places. Outstanding Family resort

Aug 8th, 2019

Returned for our second visit. Staying in a Water View Villa with sea and pool view. An excellent Resort for all the family. Spa facilities outstanding especially Pamela who went the extra mile. Lovely beach, Kids Club great and lots for teenagers to do.... Crazy golf, Table Tennis, Tennis Courts. Rasta beach and Watersports beach fab. good nighttime activities. Loved the Rum tasting and cookery lessons. Food is ok with great selection. Kenny on the omelette station at breakfast was awesome. In general the staff were helpful and wanted you to have a comfortable and memorable holiday. The pool was very clean and the sun beds were good. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
