I am very disappointed with my experience at the Wentworth. It markets itself as a historic New England inn, yet there are very few authentic details that make it feel as such. For example, upon entering the main lobby area, you are confronted with pastel paint tones that would be more suitable in a beach resort, than a historic Northern New England inn. The unsuitable colour scheme is carried over into the bar and dining room areas, with turquoise & coral accent colours - very beachy; yet keep in mind we are nowhere near any beach! Further, there were other very distracting elements of the main decor throughout the common areas of the hotel. Christmas lights, wreaths, reindeer, ornamental Christmas trees, & garland everywhere, and keep in mind we are currently one week away from March! It was very inappropriate and not in line with the current season. I felt like I was in Granny's house, and she just couldn't be bothered to take the decor down and pack it away. In other words, I felt like the Inn was not thinking of the guest experience and that some guests may find abundant Christmas decor in the last week of February, a bit jarring and uncomfortable. Onto the rooms.....simply stated they are very dated. And not in a charming, period sort of way with lovely, time worn antiques. Think instead of hunter green, cranberry and gold colour schemes with overly ornate drapes and pillows that look like they were upholstered in 1992!! I think when guests pay a premium rate, they expect some thought and small touches that look like they have been updated within the last 20-30 years. The cleanliness of the room was also lacking with dust all along the sink area, and dried toothpaste on the adjacent wood wall panelling. The food...we started with light appetizers in the bar which resulted in a plate of glorified potatoe chips for $8.00 USD, and also a hummus plate with stale pita bread and cheap pimento olives that were added as a puree on top. Gross. Dinner was a total disaster and my entree looked like mystery chicken surprise, and tasted even worse. The wine was very nice, but not enough to make an inedible meal palatable. The only saving grace was the very professional front desk staff who provided an excellent level of hospitality and professionalism. I know my review is harsh, but my husband and I drove four hours and were anticipating a relaxing and elegant country inn experience, as advertised, and were left feeling extremely stressed and disappointed. I rely on TripAdvisor very heavily when making travel arrangements, and in this case, my experience did not live up to those of the majority of others, so I would like to add this review as a balanced contribution to what ended up being a poor hospitality experience. My husband and I spent two evenings in a suite and it exceeded our expectations. It was actually bigger than it seems on their website. The lobby is very clean and nicely decorated. The inn’s farm to table restaurant was awesome. All of the staff was very courteous and attentive. If looking for an inn with New England charm I highly recommend this one. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
A very nice stay!
Feb 22nd, 2021
It was a cold weekend that brought us to Jackson and The Wentworth but we enjoyed our large king room, jacuzzi tub, and gas fireplace in the Arden Cottage. Our reservation included breakfast and dinner which we chose to have in our room due to COVID concerns with indoor dining. All of our dishes were excellent, even delivered as take-out rather than dine-in, but the imposed 18% gratuity seemed a bit excessive. Although we didn't have the opportunity to explore the amenities like we normally would, the lobby and grounds of the hotel are very nice although I agree with another reviewer that the rooms may need a refresh in the near future. DEFINITELY GOING BACK!!
Jan 22nd, 2021
First I booked one night for a Friday night for my Beautiful Lady and I. I then called them on the Tuesday before and requested to add Thursday night also. The were very receptive and booked us for Thursday also. My furnace went down on Wednesday and I wasn’t going to be able to get it fixed until Thursday afternoon. I called Thursday to cancel and they were Very receptive and didn’t charge me! WOW! The lobby area was wonderfully laid out. They have a quaint bar area, and plenty of sitting areas. They had ice sculptures in the back sitting area. We made it to our room and it was Gorgeous and had everything you could want in a room. To top it off we got a room that had a private hot tub! It was an AMAZING place and we look forward to visiting again maybe within the month!! Thank You for the hospitality and making our stay memorable!! Glen & Sue TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Wonderful New Years Eve stay
Jan 17th, 2021
We booked New Years Eve package in The Wentworth, previously reading all good reviews and not knowing what to expect, especially in so unprecedented time. We couldn't be happier with our decision. The hotel staff was very welcoming, great customer service, nice lounge and amazing restaurant. We had breakfasts and dinners for every day of our stay and they all were delicious and fresh. We travel all around the world and we never had lamb chops cooked to such a perfection. Roasted duck was also amazing, out of this world! Service was outstanding and everybody made us feel like we're part of the family. The owner, Eleanor was always greeting us and asking about our day. The New Year Eve dinner and party was so much fun, with delicious drinks and ice bar on the porch. All people working there were taking great Covid precautions and made us feel safe so we could relax and enjoy our stay. We'll be back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
