Extra Special

Feb 14th, 2020

We stayed for a weekend to celebrate our 12th anniversary and had the best time. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel special and taken care of. Our anniversary dinner was spectacular. They were very welcoming of our puppy. The room was so comfortable. It snowed overnight and we woke up to a winter wonderland. It felt like we were in Whistler walking around the small ‘village’. Will definitely stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Apparently Stunning on a Sunny Day

Feb 12th, 2020

Spent two days at the Westin Bear Mountain post snowstorm and it was quite cloudy with zero view. Not their fault, but just an observation that it is high on the mountain and subject to clouds and fog, so if you are looking for good views, it is not guaranteed. This being said, the service in the hotel was fantastic. Front desk staff were efficient, personable and pleasant-not a single negative point encountered on this front. The hotel is clean and welcoming in the lobby area. We were upgraded to a view room (no view with the fog though) and it was large and easy to live in. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could want or need. Bed was comfortable and I liked the fact that there were windows that opened so that you could sleep with fresh air. The room was clean, but we did find pills under the bed...a little concerning given that people travel with children and children put things in their mouths. I suspect that the vacuuming cold have been a bit better in this regard. Parking....many people comment on the parking. Yes, there is a reserved lot closest to the lobby, but really, the open parking is just as close and it is not a long walk, so I'm not sure what folks are complaining about. All in all a good stay (we love Westin) and would consider it again if in the neighbourhood. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rapidly going downhill

Jan 22nd, 2020

We have stayed here many times and unfortunately there has been a steep decline over the past year. First of all, this property is not in Victoria. It’s at least 30 minutes away.....can easily be over an hour during rush hour. There is nothing but a couple of restaurants within walking distance, and sadly most of those are overpriced with poor reviews. Here are some of the issues we have had: - Parking is horrendous. Good luck finding a spot during the busy periods here. Be prepared to circle around the lot for a LONG time. The lot isn’t big enough. To make matters worse, the hotel has blocked off about a dozen spots for valet (rarely used) and have had the nerve to make another dozen or so pay parking! These spots are closest to the property and are almost always empty. It is beyond aggravating to see them sit without any cars while everyone circles around looking for a spot. It is very greedy and a complete waste of time for hotel patrons! - Pool/Gym is actually in the Rec centre! It’s a great facility during the off season, but in the summer it is typically packed with local twenty somethings who are partying and drinking. The music is always blaring and it is not a relaxing atmosphere. It is also very hard to find anywhere to sit. There is a small gym inside the hotel but it doesn’t have much equipment. - Food is so extremely overpriced and most portions are very small. - There is a lot of staff turnover at the property and many of the more recent hires are not customer service focused. You will not be getting a late checkout or friendly, attentive service even if the property is quiet. - Wifi is terrible and the signal drops constantly. - The walls are paper thin. You can clearly hear entire conversations going on in the next room. - Most recently and disturbingly, the water has been dirty. The bath/shower water was full of sediment and was absolutely filthy. This has occurred several times over the past year. This needs to be addressed ASAP for the health and safety of the guests. The worst part is that the staff acts as though this is a new issue that they have never heard of. This is very concerning and highly unethical. Going forward, we will be staying at the new DoubleTree Hilton in downtown Victoria. We need to be able to count on a consistent level of quality that is not available at this property. Unfortunately, service and quality is deteriorating here while rates are increasing. Not worth it! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overnight on December 7th in room 240.

Dec 8th, 2019

Had our company Christmas party at the resort on Saturday December 7th, and decided to stay overnight with my partner as a little getaway. When we got to our room at 11:00 on we could hear a rock band playing really loud and crystal clear. I called the front desk and they apologized and said it would stop in 15 minutes. Well it didn't stop and continued well after midnight. We tried earplugs and sticking pillows over our heads to no avail. To add to the issues room thermostat would not go below 72 degrees which made it very hard to sleep. The next morning at 8:45 we were awoken by very loud Christmas music from the same ballroom which was right underneath our room. Again I called down and asked what was going on on the front desk said it was a church group having there family Christmas party. This room should have been blocked and NOT have been allowed to have been booked or occupied when the hotel was aware that there was going to be live bands playing right underneath this room. Very frustrating to pay over 200.00 to not be able to sleep in a hotel room! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One of Canada's Finest Golf Resorts

Nov 11th, 2019

The room was excellent with a fantastic view of the golf courses. I sat on the balcony and watched golfers as I sipped coffee from the Mountain Market (down the road). The service is great and all the amenities, especially for golf, are plentiful. For example, I was able to use the driving range whenever I wanted at no additional cost, and since the hotel doesn't have its own pool, guests can use the local recreation facility pool at no additional charge. The facility also has a hot tub, and food/beverages poolside. The restaurant onsite has a tasty menu, and there is also a busy bar and grill across the parking lot. I'd stay again, TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
