Refrigerant Poisoning: Complete disregard for health
Nov 22nd, 2020
Long story short, the last room they gave me - the refrigerant gas had leaked giving me and my mother a massive headache and a major health scare. People have died from continued exposure to this gas, so you can imagine my anger, fear and frustration. Not once did the duty manager in charge ask me or my mother if we were ok. Nor did they offer any medical assistance. Upon telling the duty manager that the fridge had not been working from when we first entered the room and that I was scared that the gas had been leaking since then - the reply I got was as follows: "The fridges at the hotel are not like the ones you have at home. So even though you claim that your water was not cold, that does not mean that the fridge was not working." I am bilingual, fluent in both Korean and English - so this cannot be attributed to language or communication issues. Only after my persistent insistence, (2 days of feuding) did they say that "only if" we could "absolutely prove" health problems due to the gas, would they consider maybe partially compensating us. They also refused my request to talk to the senior manager (general manager). I was told that "the duty manager" is in charge of all customer-related complaints and that the general manager would not get involved. So if you have a complaint against the "duty manager" the hotel will simply disregard your complaint. Just keep that in mind. The duty manager, who had absolutely no regard for me or my mother's health, was the only person that the hotel sent to talk to me. He was abrupt, rude, and at one point laughed at my suggestion that being exposed to the refrigerant may lead to long term health issues. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This was on top of all the other issues I had already experienced. listed below. The first room they gave me overlooked the car park, even though I had called ahead, primarily because of Covid concerns and had notified them of the anniversary. The expectation was that they would give me a good room within the tier that I had paid for. However, they had arranged a room with the worst view out of the 4 views you could have. The least of my problems though, as it turns out. The second room I was given had "hairs" all around the bath-tub. When staff members came to "inspect" my claims, I pointed the hairs that I had not removed to one of the staff members. Upon the arrival of the duty manager, I was again told that yet another member of staff had to examine the hairs. This kind of treatment is just unheard of. The third room had issues as well, but me and my mum were tired and decided to just stay there. the issues are as follows: 1. fridge not working 2. desk lamp not working 3. amenities were not new (normally they are sealed with stickers - these were not) 4. foreign gel-like substance on glass shelves 5. toothbrushes were absolutely gross We had brought our own toiletries so we decided to make do. but of course, the gas leak happened. [Disclaimer] Only after my persistent insistence, the gave me a partial refund. At my request they said that they would partially fund me and my mum taking medical examinations to identify if we were at all affected by the exposure to the refrigerant gas. I was also told that "only with absolute proof could we expect any kind of compensation." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Look, I can afford to stay at 5 star hotels. Money, although I made it the issue, is not the issue really. The only reason why I pursued this was because I wanted senior management to acknowledge the issue and offer me assurances. They blatantly refused to take me seriously. There complete disregard for customer health and safety is what I want you to know. Most of the time, something serious will not happen, and this might not be an issue for your stay. Basically the way I was treated was, because I am just one individual, with no power or influence, my experience did not matter. That is how they treat their customers. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great stay at this property. We did have some customer service issues but ultimately it was not a big deal. The prices are typical resort prices though, not a surprise, but not many economical options in the hotel. The pool and gym were top notch! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Good Stay. Nice Location
Jun 21st, 2020
We stayed at the Westin Chosun Seoul for just one night during October 2019. As a Marriott Platinum member, we were only upgraded to higher level rooms only, but no junior or standard Suites were offered. The room was quite standard, average in size and layout, with partial City view and direct view of the Temple of Heaven. However, the Temple of Heaven was under renovation, so the room view ended up quite disappointing. Due to age restrictions in Korea, my daughter was also unable to access the lounge. On the positive side, Westin Seoul is very well positioned, in the heart of city and within close walking distance to the popular Myeongdong street food, shopping district and local Palaces. The breakfast at the hotel was also quite nice and there's a Citibank ATM within the hotel, very convenient for foreign guests like us to withdraw KRW via Citibank Plus Transaction Cards. Staff at the hotel was also courteous and friendly. Rosie at Concierge patiently provided direction and map for local attractions and Jenny at front desk actioned our checkout efficiently. I might choose to stay at the Westin Chosun Seoul again in the future, but probably during a less busy period, where more loyalty recognition can be realised for Elite members. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

- visited executive deluxe double bed. Overall wasnt so bad but still thought could be better. - amazing city view, and located in the heart of seoul - breakfast not bad, but very crowded on weekends - amazing bar u should definitely visit. The bartender was very nice - overall the staffs were very nice. Westins in Korea (seoul, busan) have really nice staffs- and they made my stay much better overall. Will visit again TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
The Westin Chosun Seoul, Good and no regret but to be the best?..reputation??

Along with various Suite Rooms, Sushi Cho and Hong Yuan, the property has the famous City Athletic Club and Aria. But I could not experience both due to Coronavirus Pandemic. I could not experience the Suite Room either because all the rooms were under construction (even though there were much fewer people on Sunday night during this epidemic pandemic period.) May be I was not lucky but will try to experience them all if I will have next chance to stay in this property again. My experience to share by this chance is executive lounge. The food was not bad (but not so tasty nor impressive.) For me, it seems that club lounges of Sheraton Palace, JW Marriott Gangnam, Le Meridien Seoul and Autograph Seoul Plaza are the best in Seoul. Nevertheless, I can not forget the kindness and hospitality of the staffs (especially Ms. Suri Lee who was thankfully trying to give good impression of her lounge. The prompt service by Mr. Yeongmin Kim was also impressive.) Before I came here to stay for the first time, I read many reviews for reference. But unfortunately, I could not have chance to fully feel and expereince all. May be I should look forward to having them by the chance of next visit. Until then, my impression on the best properties in Seoul should still remain with Sheraton Palace, JW Marriott Gangnam, Le Meridien Seoul and Autograph Seoul Plaza. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
