Beautiful

Jan 3rd, 2020

The villas at Westin’s Dawn Beach are beautifully appointed 3-bedroom condos. They are still building/renovating after the big hurricane that hit St Maarten a few years ago. The resort was still closed but the condos are already being used for guests occupancy. Luckily the pool that is in the resort hotel area was already open for guests in the villas/condos. We were in a building where the fourth and third floors were already being occupied while the second and first floor condos were still in Reno mode. The front desk staff, Janis and her supervisor Sheila were very nice. We were supposed to be in the fourth floor but since the elevator was still being fixed, they opened up a condo for us on the third floor. We were the first occupants of the condo we suppose since the washer and drier plastic wraps were still in the machines. The drawback was that the ice maker was not functional yet, and even when they had it serviced while we were there, we couldn’t use it until the lines were cleaned up to make clean ice. But no problem, Sheila was on the rescue to have staff at the pool bar give us bags of ice when we needed those. The beach area had a lot of seaweeds that they occasionally clean up. But with the pool near the beach area, there was always the option to be in the pool instead of the beach. Although one can order food from the pool bar, there was not much choice and places to eat were a bit distant from where the resort is. But we took that opportunity to explore find places to dine in, order, or buy food to cook, we had a beautiful kitchen and dining room to use for our stay anyway. Would live to be back there soon! Extremely disappointed If it was not for the excellent accommodation I would give a 1.

Dec 20th, 2019

We have been coming to St Maarten for the last 25 years. I realize the island is recovering. The Dutch side is significantly recovered as compared to the French side. However the delay id due to politics and money (Particularly the French side). The resort accommodation was excellent. However then it stops. The resort is isolated with it own beach (we come every year); however the the hotel portion is still to be refurbished. We knew that. The time share part is great and completely renovated. Since there is no transport guests are completely isolated unless they have a car. The management made no provisions for shuttle service to nearly towns or restaurants. The do have a sandwich type place which closes at 7 pm. The swim up bar is pleasant and the drinks (sometimes watered down) are available. The staff have no concern for the guests. There were protests going on in the French side and we had not warning. The staff knew. They even made dinner reservations for us in Grand Case and didn't tell us of the problems. We tried to get there and we experience road blocks, riots and fires on the road. We got blocked in several times and gave up and returned to the French side. Still the following morning no comment. The management didn't care. As friendly as the timeshare people were when they thought you may buy; the friendliness evaporated. Maybe when the hotel gets re-opened things may change TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hit hard by the Hurricane

Dec 16th, 2019

We recently returned from staying at this resort the last week of November. The resort is very isolated and you definitely need a car to get around . There was a lot of damage from the hurricane from two years ago and they are still struggling to get it up and running and full functional . Of the 7 buildings for accommodations only two were renovated and being used although they expected to have a couple more opened in December There is no restaurant or shops and not really any amenities to speak of . The pool is very nice and they have a small bar opened but not sure of the hours . We went down on our last night there to have a drink( Friday night ) around 7.30 and the bar was closed . I did find the staff very friendly and the unit were very nice with large balconies . We used Andy's taxi service to get around and can certainly highly recommend them . Remember to bring water shoes if you are going here , the beach is a bit rocky in places with a very strong undertow . Getting a beach chair was never a problem . Would I stay there again - probably not since the resort is so isolated . However if you just want sun and surf and a very quiet resort and you are cooking your own meals this could be the place for you . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great week at timeshare

Dec 16th, 2019

All is slowly returning to super happiness . The timeshare units are in great shape and the pool is still fabulous, alas no hot tub. The staff is on it as usual, Kahlib, Richard and Jean-Claude on the the pool bar and now Kevin has returned to work. Security is constant and maintenance is policing the grounds always. Snacks are available out of the kitchen with hope for dinner three nights a week by the first of the year. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Love the View

Dec 2nd, 2019

We stayed for a week at Dawn Beach Resort and it was great. The hospitality was far above and beyond. Very clean and love the swim up bar. Nice and quit. Great lunch at the beach. Property was very nicely maintained. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
