Disappointing for the price

Jan 25th, 2020

The location is obviously great, but otherwise the hotel is resting on its Westin Brand laurels, which is slowly fading from my POV. The service was quite meh, at the front desk, spa, and the room attendants. They came to my door twice while I was in the washroom, seemingly for no reason, and just said ‘sorry’ and left when I answered the door. Bathrooms are dated, tub is too small and water ends up all over (admittedly great water pressure!), room has also limited space and I’m scared to ask what room I would’ve been in before an’upgrade’. Sauna was properly hot, but the gym is cluttered and lacking on non-cardio equipment space. Signage is poor. Worst is that they have a progressive ‘green’ program where you can ask to not have housekeeping to save in washing, but they didn’t pay attention to the posted sign on my doorknob either of the two nights I out it out, so there was no point. Waste of labour and materials. Cleaning also quite poor, with the staff moving my things, adjusting the shower, replacing once-used soap, etc. pretty annoying. End of rent- for this much choose a hotel that works for your money TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location

This hotel is well located close to all sites, shopping and restaurants. The hotel is a large typical Westin business type establishment with all the expected amenities. The rooms are small though functional. They were clean but a little dated. Breakfast is as you would expect from a Westin - good but not exceptional. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Average stay

Jan 17th, 2020

Stayed here for two nights, it wasn’t bad, I think I just had higher expectations. It was after holidays so it was pretty quiet which might have taken away from the atmosphere. The lobby is very nice, front desk staff was just ok. After waiting for a few minutes to check in, I went to my front desk clerk, she proceeded to pick up her phone, make a call and ignore me. I noticed the clerk next to her was open so I moved over and she helped me. At check in (no time prior) I was informed the pool was closed for renovation. Not a big deal as I was not planning on swimming. However an hour later I went to use the gym and could not find it, At the time I was told their gym was closed but could use a temporary gym in above the lobby, I went to the temporary gym and all it had was two stationary bikes - I don’t bike. My room was nice. However, it is a large hotel with a few long hallways that are like a maze. For some reason, even though the hotel was probably 10% full, I was given the furthest room possible. I guess since the gym was closed this was my workout! The highlight was the breakfast buffet, very well done. Unfortunately, I would not return. Last summer we stayed at the Hilton a few blocks away and it was much better than this over hyped hotel, TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

4th return visit

Jan 13th, 2020

Stayed in a garden room for the first time, at The Weston Grand, one of my favourite hotels in europe, in December, for the Christmas markets. Fantastic location. Sadly our room was so hot we couldn’t sleep. It seemed the heating could not be turned off. After explaining this 3 days running to reception (who promised to sort air con for us), we were finally told our room was in an old part of the hotel where air con was only available in the summer months. n.b. The first time I went to reception the staff member, excused himself and disappeared for around 15 minutes before returning to ask how he could help. No explanation. No other member of staff there to help. This really isn’t what one expects from a 5 star hotel. I was asked if we’d like to change room on our last night - far too late and disruptive in our break. This should have been arranged as soon as we raised the problem. I did however, request a fan for our final night, which was promised. Even this however, had to be chased up just before retiring to bed. The beds were ok but ‘moved’ across the room. Pillows lumpy. Bathroom nice enough and adequate wardrobe storage. Bath towels small and not very soft. Shortage of well placed sockets. Light bulb needed replacing (notable lack of attention to detail that I have always experienced here previously). Our room attracted a premium and was certainly not worthy or typical of 5 stars. Long walk from the stairs & lifts too. On all other visits the rooms I have stayed been much better. Pool was lovely, but sadly the fabulous jacuzzi (a big plus for us) had been removed from the hotel since my last stay. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, fresh orange juice and sparkling wine. Restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. The lovely lady who checked us out, removed breakfast from our bill, as previously offered, as a goodwill gesture. This was appreciated, but didn’t replace 3 nights without sleep. Sadly not planning a return visit in the near future. Standards had slipped. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
