Beautiful hotel, bad brekkie experience

Jul 14th, 2019

I stayed one night here with my wife on a Saturday. The hotel is beautiful! Very clean and smells great. We used the valet parking which was $47. The valet worker was very friendly and courteous. As a titanium, I was upgraded to a corner room with a city view (room 1000). The bathroom was huge with a rainfall shower stall, a separate bathtub, and his and her sinks. Plenty of room! The bed was super comfortable with a TV mounted in front of it on the wall with windows looking at the NYC skyline. An absolutely beautiful view! Everything about this hotel was fantastic ... except i wasn’t pleased with the breakfast experience. Per the T and C on the Marriott website, the welcome gift at Westin’s is 1,000 points or breakfast at the restaurant for the guest plus one. However, at this hotel the breakfast option is free grab and go breakfast or $10 off per person at the restaurant. I asked the front desk manager about this and her response wasn’t very helpful, just stating that the grab and go is physically in the restaurant, so that’s basically how they get around giving elites a free quality breakfast. Alas, I was forced to pay $18.75 per person for the breakfast buffet, but got $10 off per person. They add in a 20% tip or so as well. So breakfast for two with this option was about $26. Not happy how this hotel does the bare minimum to comply with the T and C and not happy with how they treat their elites from a brekkie perspective. But at least they gave me a nice corner room! Thank you Rose and Jamie, front desk, for your excellent research for the perfect room, per request. Not only did I get to have an awesome view of Freedom Tower but the extra room in the junior suite. Thank you, Angel, General Manager, for the warm welcome and special amenities! I highly recommend this wonderful property. The customer service is excellent, the views of Manhattan are breathtaking and the breakfast buffet, Awesome! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Enjoyable experience

Jul 12th, 2019

I've tried to avoid staying in midtown Manhattan lately during my trips to New York, because I don't like the claustrophobic feeling of the rooms in most hotels there. I used to stay in Jersey City for my trips, but switched to Brooklyn because of the inconveniences of the reduced PATH late night schedules. On this trip, circumstances dictated that the first two nights of my trip needed to be on the New Jersey side of the Hudson, so I looked at finding a Jersey City alternative. Being an adept user of Hotwire and Priceline for my leisure travels, I identified this Westin hotel as offering a fantastic rate for two nights on Priceline. Prior to my arrival, my sister decided to join me for part of my trip, and asked if she could bunk in with me. I said sure, but she'd either have to sleep on the floor or pay for them to bring in a bed if the hotel couldn't provide a 2 bed suite. Prior to check in, I had called ahead to add my Bonvoy number to the reservation, if just to collect incidental points for our stay. When we checked in, we asked for a 2 bed suite, and weren't sure if they could accommodate us. The front desk clerk noted my platinum status, and instantly upgraded us to a suite on the top floor with 2 beds. The suite was immaculate, and made for a great start to my trip. The hotel is fantastic for anyone who wants the New York City experience, without being in the bustle of NYC. It was only a block walk from the Newport PATH station, and if you don't intend on spending late nights in Manhattan, the inconvenience of using the PATH to commute into Manhattan is worth it. I would not hesitate to stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

An Example of what Marriott needs to fix

Jul 10th, 2019

I have been traveling for 22 years (Titanium Elite)and One of the things that I never liked was the merge with Starwood. The difference in culture, policies, benefits are incredible way to impact your travel doctrine. This hotel has great amenities, service is ok but still shows Starwood policies in the customer service that causes customers like me to stay away. This is my second and last stay in a Westin property. I always use my company negotiated rate that provides with some special benefits like breakfast, late check outs, early departures, etc. I booked two nights and due to the nature of what I do I have to depart early and when I came down to the lobby the CSR told me that there was early fee departure. The question is : where did you guys come up with that? Never heard of that before in my extensive travel around the world. It is very clear how this type of Starwood hotel do not share the Marriott culture and It will be very important to standardize benefits and policies at all hotels to have one philosophy. Staff saved my trip...

Jul 7th, 2019

I arrived here without luggage and 3 cancelled flights. The staff were so welcoming and made sure I had toiletries to get me through. It is also incredible the hotel offers the Westin Workout clothing. Yes you can workout without sweating in your only change of clothing. Room was large. Internet worked well. Hotel still does room service old school. Nice. Safe haven from a terrible travel day. Now if they could only help the airline find my baggage. Will stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
